This design is symbolic.
The rings represent the five inhabited continents of the world.
The six colors are those that appear on all the national flags of the
world.

6. Pierre de Coubertin is also the author of the Olympic motto:
"Faster, Higher, Stronger " (Citius! Altius! Fortius!)
He also said:
