As the end of the year approaches, I find myself thankful for my first
year serving as the Executive Director for Excellence Foundation for
South Sudan. It has been a pleasurecollaborating with the board, staff
member representatives, and supporters. I am fortunate to be in the
company of such compassionate and knowledgeable leaders.
Even more inspiring is the energy each of you continues to give in the
face of so many of the nation’s current health, economic and social
challenges. While the time has approached for many of us to pause
and reconnect with family, friends, and most importantly ourselves. I am encouraged by
the prospects that 2023 will bring for the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan and the
communities we serve. My enthusiasm is bolstered by all of the life-changing work our
organization does daily.
I would like to highlight our recent success within Juba and beyond. More than 150 school
prefects or club leaders benefited from the Prefect board mentorship program in four
schools in Juba and two in Yei River County. Five primary schools participated in the
school contest (Academic Debate, speed challenge Quiz, and spelling bee) in the pilot
phase of the South Sudan National Spelling Bee which benefited more than 50 pupils and
over 300 people all over the participating teams.
Message from the Executive Director
School Contest (Academic Debate, Speed challenge Quiz, and Spelling Bee):
We believe that the pupils and students of this country are the innovators of
tomorrow, and we strive to provide school activities that encourage them and
educators alike to practice innovation today.
Prefects Board Mentorship Program: Prefects board needs to develop
self-confidence, which underpins other important qualities, including humility,
authenticity, and assertiveness. These student leadership qualities make it possi
ble for them to hone the skills necessary to develop core leadership competen
cies.
Personal Development Training Series: Transitioning from school into the
workplace is a delicate affair that most people are hardly well prepared for.
Most of them get the shock of their lives when they suddenly realize there has
been a paradigm shift in their lives.
Among these monumental efforts are:

It is thanks to you that we are able to serve the people. We do so on a daily, weekly, and
yearly basis. As a non-profit working to decent and affordable service to our communities,
we recognize that we are all connected, most especially in times of crisis. I ask that you
consider supporting our mission once again by partnering, and funding our upcoming proj-
ects because increased participation is more important than any amount and we appreciate
your support over
The year. It cost us thousands of dollars which is primarily funded by our members. We
need your support today to continue working towards our mission and vision of a better
future tomorrow.
In 2023, EFSS will be re-launching the South Sudan National Spelling Bee and School
Contest to more than 10 schools within Juba. EFSS will also be having the prefects board
mentorship program in schools within Juba and beyond. We’ll then Developmental career
guidance program for schools and other online personal development series. EFSS is
embracing technology as a preferred method of back-office activity to maintain a high
level of member engagement and in direct response to many limits and prohibitions
brought on by COVID-19.
The EFSS moved other external communications to the various online and Social media
platforms. Our website remains an active hub of information and thought-enhancing
commentary.
In closing and in the same spirit of appreciation. I am reminded of a recent conversation
we as staff had at our year-end meeting. Though recent times have proven to be stressful
to the body, mind, and spirit with loss of social freedom, economic viability, and in the
worse of cases our previous loved ones, there remains hope. This hope is rooted in the
triumphant human spirit exhibited by dozens of people.
We have regularly engaged those who serve millions nationwide. Therefore, when we
return at the change of the calendar year. We shall be ready to do even more. We shall also
be looking for our current members plus new ones to help us collectively build and
strengthen the sectors of our operations.

Sustainability Efforts
Establishing long-term funding and partnerships: Excellence Foundation for
South Sudan will look to establish long-term funding and partnerships with organi-
zations like national non-governmental organizations, UN agencies, respective
ministries, and state and national governments of South Sudan. This will help to
ensure that the organization has a diverse and stable funding portfolio.
Developing a financial sustainability plan: Excellence Foundation for South
Sudan should develop a financial sustainability plan to ensure that it has the
resources to continue its operations and to expand its programs and reach. This plan
should include a budget and a strategy for fundraising, as well as a strategy for
cost-cutting and increasing revenue.
Increasing public engagement: The organisation should look to increase public
engagement in order to ensure that the local community is actively involved and
invested in the organisation’s mission. This could be done through organising
public events, engaging with the media, and using social media to reach a wider
audience.
Developing a volunteer base: Developing a base of volunteers who are passionate
about the mission of the organisation will help to ensure that the organisation has
the resources to continue its work. Volunteers can help with fundraising, program
planning, and outreach.
Building a strong board of directors: It is important for Excellence Foundation
for South Sudan to have a strong board of directors who can provide guidance and
oversight. It is important that the board is composed of individuals with a range of
perspectives and expertise who can provide guidance and insight on the organisa-
tion’s operations.
Investing in technology: Investing in technology can help Excellence Foundation
for South Sudan to save time and resources, as well as improve efficiency and
reach. This could include investing in cloud computing, data analytics, and digital
marketing.
