2. I.Q. or Intelligence Quotient is a very important thing to have. Schools and companies use this as a way to
measure a person’s ability to analyze and solve problems. But if you think your IQ score is not high enough or
you want to improve it, here are seven quick ways to boost your IQ.
Don’t skip breakfast. This one is something I am guilty of when I was in high school. There are lots
of times that I skip breakfast then wonder why I didn’t perform well in my exams that day. Breakfast
improves your IQ by fueling your brain and body with essential nutrients such as glucose (brain food).
Without fuel, how do you expect your brain to function at its peak? How far do you think a car can
run when it’s low on fuel? The same thing goes for your brain. If you want to improve your IQ, start
your day with a healthy breakfast.
Stay active. I don’t believe that a high IQ can be achieved with a weak body. Stay active by doing
daily exercises and involving yourself in physical activities such as sports. Aerobic exercises such as
swimming, yoga and running improves your body’s ability to deliver oxygen throughout your body
especially to your brain. A physically fit body can also handle mental stress a lot better, allowing you
to perform well under pressure. Read my article about Top 10 Ways to Be More Active.
3. Take breaks. Ever experienced spending hours studying for an exam only to recall half of what you
studied? I did, lots of times. And it’s not because you have a low IQ but because you probably forgot
to take a break. Taking breaks is very important in improving your IQ. Just like your muscles, the
brain also suffers fatigue. When you’re mentally tired, you’re less likely to absorb and recall what
you’re trying to learn. So give your brain some time to rest by taking breaks.
Exercise your brain. A weight lifter whose objective is to lift a great amount of weight will surely
exercise and build the muscles in his body. So if your objective is to take on a big mental task, you
have to make sure that your brain gets enough exercise so you can score higher. Mental exercises such
as playing with a Rubik’s Cube, answering crossword puzzles or Sodoku are fun ways to start.
4. Meditate. Meditation helps in boosting your IQ by calming your mind and clearing your thoughts
even under stressful conditions. If your mind is calm and clear, you’re more likely to solve mental
problems a lot better and quicker. Never underestimate the power of meditation.
Learn new stuff. Learning new stuff such as a new language, musical instrument, or skill, stimulates
the brain to grow more neurons to facilitate new information. The more neurons your brain creates,
the smarter you become.
5. Listen to music. Ever heard of the Mozart effect? It says that listening to Mozart’s music may induce
a short-term improvement on the performance of certain kinds of mental tasks known as “spatial-
temporal reasoning”. In other words, classical music stimulates parts of your brain that help you
become smarter. When I was in high school I was more into Bach than Mozart but it helped me
concentrate just as well. So pick your favorite composer and listen away.
Get enough sleep. Early to bed, early to rise. It will be very hard to concentrate on a mental task if
you are sleep deprived, but don’t oversleep as well. 8 hours of sleep every night is very much
recommended if you expect to perform at your mental peak the next day.
6. These are just some of the tips I came up with based on my experiences. I’m sure there are others ways that are
more suited depending on your lifestyle. The key here is to not give up and maintain a positive attitude. If you
think you can improve your mental abilities then believe in yourself that you can do it. For more tips you can

“The winner’s edge is not in a gifted birth, a high IQ, or in talent. The winner’s edge is all in the attitude,
not aptitude. Attitude is the criterion for success.”
