• The European data economy refers to the
collection, storage, processing, and use of data as
an economic resource within the European Union
(EU). This includes data generated by individuals,
businesses, and governments.
• The EU has implemented various regulations and
initiatives to promote the growth of the data
economy while also protecting data privacy and
security.
• The goal is to create a single market for data
within the EU to drive innovation, increase
competitiveness, and spur economic growth

• Data Spaces Support Centre will explore the needs of data space
initiatives, define common requirements and establish best practices
to accelerate the formation of sovereign data spaces as a key element
of digital transformation at all levels.
• Part of the Digital Europe Program

• Decentralised, governed and standard-
based structure to enable trustworthy
data sharing between the data space
participants on a voluntary basis.
• Data spaces may be purpose- or sector-
specific, or cross-sectoral.
• Common European data spaces are a
subset of data spaces within the scope of
EU policies.*
