Fadnavis, Uddhav to revive war over Aarey car shed?
Satish Nandgaonkar
Mumbai: The location
of car sheds for Mum-
bai’s upcoming Metro
network has become a
freshflashpointbetween
the newly-installed Shiv
Sena-Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP) government
and the Maha Vikas
Aghadi coalition. Mum-
bai’sgreenactivistsAar-
ey Conservation Group
vowed to revive the
movementtoSaveAarey
Forest.
After taking the oath
of office on Thursday
,
Chief Minister Eknath
Shinde and Deputy CM
Devendra Fadnavis held
their first cabinet meet-
ing at the Mantralaya.
They directed the state
advocate general to pre-
pare a legal strategy to
shift the controversial
car shed from Kanjur-
marg in central suburbs
back to its original loca-
tion of Aarey Milk Colo-
ny in western suburbs.
Thoughnoformalcab-
inet decision was an-
nounced, former Chief
Minister Uddhav Thack-
eray came out strongly
against the move to shift
the metro car shed. “I re-
quest you with folded
hands not to direct your
anger against me in
Mumbai. Please do not
playwithMumbai’senvi-
ronment. There was no
ego in the proposal to
movethecarshedtoKan-
jurmarg. Please do not
pursue a car shed at Aar-
ey
,” Thackeray said at a
press conference.
He added, “One night,
the trees were chopped
in Aarey
. After I became
the CM, I suggested the
Kanjurmargalternative.
I am with the environ-
mentalists and the envi-
ronment. The land at
Kanjurmarg belongs to
Maharashtra, and it
should be used for Mum-
bai’s benefit. A car shed
at Kanjurmarg could
help Metro lines reach
Balapur-Ambernath(far
eastern suburbs),” said
Thackeray
,whoreceived
strong support from Ma-
harashtra Congress
chief Nana Patole.
However, Deputy
Chief MinisterDevendra
Fadnavis said that while
he respects Uddhav
Thackeray’s request, the
carshedatAareyColony
can be completed faster.
“Metro project construc-
tion is happening at a
faster rate. But, without
a car shed, the network
cannot become function-
al.Around25%of thecar
shed work at Aarey is al-
ready complete, and the
rest can be completed
quickly
. Even if the Kan-
jurmarg land is availa-
ble, it will take at least
four years for the car
shed to be operational
there,” he said.
At a cabinet meet, officials were directed
to relocate Metro car shed from
Kanjurmarg to Aarey Milk Colony
‘AGAINST AAREY
CAR SHED’
Speaking to First India,
environmental activist D
Stalin, who was part of the
Save Aarey Movement,
said, “We will soon revive
our movement if the car
shed is relocated to Aarey.
In 2019, we tweeted daily
for 1,000 days and asked
Devendra Fadnavis to stop
the car shed work. He has
given 65 hectares of land to
Mumbai Metro Rail Corpo-
ration Ltd (MMRCL) when
it requires only 28 hectares
for the car shed.” He said
around 812 acre of Aarey
land converted into reserve
forest by the MVA govern-
ment will not be affected by
the car shed.

Karachi/Lahore: The Dawat-e-Islami, one of Pakistan’s largest Sunni-Barelvi Muslim
organisations, which has been in the news after the brutal killing of a tailor in India, on
Friday rejected links to “any acts of terrorism,” saying it is purely an educational, mis-
sionary and charity institution which preaches peace. The organisation, with its head-
quarters in Pakistan’s commercial capital Karachi, has been under the spotlight after it
emerged that one of the two men who carried out a deadly attack in Udaipur, Rajasthan,
was inspired by the Dawat-e-Islami and had visited Karachi in 2014.

Guwahati: Maharash-
tra Chief Minister
Eknath Shinde and the
rebel Shiv Sena MLAs
who had camped at a
Guwahati luxury ho-
tel for eight days
cleared their bills be-
fore they checked out
on Wednesday
, a hotel
official confirmed on
Friday
.
Though the hotel of-
ficials are tight-lipped
on the total bill, sources
said Rs68-70 lakh were
paid for their stay in the
upscale Radisson Blu
hotel located at Gotana-
gar near Jalukbari.
A total of 70 rooms in
different floors of the
hotel were booked for
the Maharashtra legis-
lators and their associ-
ates. The hotel had
closed its restaurants,
banquets and other fa-
cilities for the non-resi-
dent guests from June
22 to June 29, the period
of their stay
.
“The Maharashtra
MLAs stayed in the ho-
tel as normal guests.
They cleared the bills
before leaving. There is
no money pending,” a
senior official of the ho-
tel said, on condition of
anonymity
.
The official, however,
declined to share the
amount billed but said
the lawmakers had
stayed “in a mix of su-
perior and deluxe cate-
gory rooms”.
According to the
Radisson Blu’s website,
the tariffs of different
types of rooms in its
Guwahati property are
dynamic and vary al-
most every day
.
Sources said that
usually the rent for su-
perior rooms is around
Rs7,500 and Rs8,500 for
deluxe ones. After dis-
counts and taxes the
figure is estimated to be
around Rs68 lakh.
With the Goods Ser-
vices Tax (GST), the
amount payable for the
two types of rooms is
around Rs7,280 and
Rs8,400 per person for a
night. There are a few
superior rooms and
around 55 deluxe rooms
in the hotel.
The total food bill is
believed to be around
Rs22 lakh for the rebel
MLAs.
Asked if the guests
availed any other paid
services, the hotel offi-
cial said, “They used
only facilities which are
available as complimen-
tary in the room rent.”

Mumbai: The Bharati-
ya Janata Party’s
strategy for the two-
day session of the Ma-
harashtra Legislative
Assembly to elect its
candidate Rahul
Narvekar as the new
speaker of the lower
house, will likely find
political opportunity
for the freshly-minted
Maharashtra Chief
Minister, Eknath
Shinde. He will try
and stamp his author-
ity over the Shiv Sena
party
.
The CM is expected to
carry out the speaker’s

further embarrass for-
mer CM Uddhav Thack-
erayloyalistMLAs,even
though at least one Sena
MLA is expected to ab-
sent himself ostensibly
due to an alleged COV-
ID-19 infection.
Meanwhile, the
Thackeray-led Shiv
Sena is now following a
wait and watch policy
over the process of gov-
ernment formation in
Maharashtra, while ex-
pecting fissures over
portfolio allocations to
break out into the open.
A Sena ex-minister’s
aide told First India,
“The new CM Eknath
Shinde’s late-night
flight to Goa was neces-
sitated to quell infight-
ing among the 40 rebel
Sena MLAs, most of
whom are demanding a
plum portfolio in the
new government. We
are hopeful that the dis-
contentwillleadto‘ghar
wapsi’ of many disgrun-
tled MLAs who fail to
make the cut. That is
why the BJP has con-
sciously devised a three-
phased game plan to an-
nounce Shinde’s new
council of cabinet min-
isters and ministers of
state.”
He added that Thack-
eray’s loyalist MLAs
numbering 16, would
probably attend the As-
sembly session. Al-
though, the matter of
no-confidence motion
against Deputy Speaker
Narhari Sitaram Zirw-
al, as well as, the dis-
qualification of the
Shinde camp’s 16 MLAs
is currently sub-judice
pending the decision of
the Supreme Court on
July 11, 2022.
CM Shinde may issue
a whip for all party
MLAs belonging to the
Shiv Sena, including the
16 Uddhav Thackeray
loyalists, to remain pre-
sent in the state Assem-
bly on Sunday
. He may
ask them to vocally vote
for the BJP-proposed
candidate Rahul
Narvekar to not only ef-
fectively lay claim over
the party itself, but also
the party symbol of
‘dhanush baan’ (bow
and arrow).
A senior BJP leader
said, “The real issue is
not about who is de-
manding what portfolio.
However, independent
MLA Bacchu Kadu’s
three-MLA party is
seeking the rural devel-
opment portfolio, as is
another independent
MLA in the Shinde
camp. With its emphasis
on ‘clean’ candidates,
the BJP is not likely to
give a berth in the state
cabinet of ministers to
rebel Sena MLAs like
Pratap Sarnaik and
Yamini Jadhav, both of
whom are under the
scanner of the Enforce-
ment Directorate. It
would send the wrong
message that tainted
politicians were seeking
to ally with the BJP sim-
ply to avoid criminal
prosecution.”
Eventhe10-oddMLAs
leaving will not dent the
sheer majority that the
BJP supported govern-
ment enjoys, he added.

RESCHEDULING ASSEMBLY SESSION
When contacted, Neelamtai Gorhe, the deputy
chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative
Council, said, “I am in the Upper House. The
(special) session is only of the Assembly, which
is the Lower House. A member or office-bearer of
one House is not supposed to speak in the other
House. (Please) talk to either the deputy speaker
of the Assembly or the secretariat officer. Just be-
cause I am available, I should not be commenting
on everything. When asked for an off-the-record
comment by First India for a sense of the legal
position on the legislative procedure regarding the
special session, she made a startling revelation
and said, “All my phones are tapped. No com-
ment on my side. I am sorry.”
Mumbai: The Maharashtra Congress on Friday
claimed that the special session of the state As-
sembly has been rescheduled from July 02 to July
03 because it coincides with the Bharatiya Janata
Party’s national executive meeting. Taking to Twit-
ter, the Congress’ state unit Spokesperson Sachin
Sawant claimed that the state Assembly session
was postponed because it coincides with the
BJP’s national executive meeting in Hyderabad.
“It is a sign that the BJP has started consider-
ing itself omnipotently more powerful than the
Constitution,” Sawant charged.

on Wednesday the long-

While `Osmanabad’

during the Nizam’s

key city of the Gulbar-

fort, located close to the
city, was the district
headquarters till 1911.
“As per R S Morwanchi-
kar’s book, ‘Satavahana

tavahana era), a cop-

records donation of
land near `Dharashiv’,”
said Kulkarni. This in-

eighth century, he said.

which are located 5 km
away from today’s Os-

Researcher Dr Som-
nath Rode, who has
written a thesis on
Dharashiv Caves, says
that a king named Shiv
from Ter, an ancient
trading centre, built
this cave complex after
a water source was
found in the area. `Dha-
ra’ in Marathi means a
flow or stream of water.
‘Bhartiya Sanskruti

when the Dharashiv
caves were built, two
guards named Dhara
and Shiv were deployed
to guard them, hence
the name `Dharashiv’.

Mumbai: In the wake
of the recent US Su-

to abolish abortion as a
federal constitutional
right, the Bombay High
Court, in an order
passed on June 27, 2022,
granted liberty to a mi-
nor girl to undergo med-
ical termination of her
pregnancy
.
The court allowed the
termination of a 16
weeks’ pregnancy of a
minor who was a victim
of sexual abuse. The HC
also noted that the Su-
preme Court, in its or-
der of 2009, observed
that reproductive
choice is an insegraga-
ble part of a woman’s
personal liberty as en-
visaged under Article 21
of the Constitution of
India.
A Bombay High

ing Justice Urmila
Joshi Phalke and Jus-
tice AS Chandurkar in
an order noted, “She
(the victim) contended
that said pregnancy is
unwanted. Admittedly,
she cannot be forced to
give birth to a child. As
observed by the Hon’ble
Supreme Court that it is
the right of a woman to
have a reproductive
choice. She has a choice
to give birth to the child
or not.”
The bench noted that
the Medical Board
opined that the preg-
nancy could be termi-
nated if the petitioner
is a minor girl.
The petitioner or vic-
tim girl through plea
contends that she is a
child in conflict with
the law and lodged with
the Government Girls
Observation Home in
Amravati.
The court noted that
during the investiga-
tion it was revealed to
the investigating officer
that the petitioner is
pregnant and, there-
fore, a separate FIR has
been register under
Section 376 with Sec-
tion 4 of the Protection
of Children from Sexu-
al Offences (POCSO)
Act, 2012. She is victim
of sexual assault and,
therefore, another
crime was registered on
the basis of report
lodged by her mother.
While passing its di-
rection, the bench ob-
served, “In such cir-
cumstances, we are of
the view that declining
such permission to the
petitioner would be tan-
tamount to compelling
her to continue with
her pregnancy. It will
not only be a burden on
her, but it would also
cause grave injury to
her mental health.”

their investments, an official informed on Friday. The
accused had floated an investment company and
had promised an attractive interest of 10% monthly
to the investors on their investments, Deputy Com-

FAILURE IS THE FIRST STEP
OF ACHIEVING SUCCESS
Failed 10,000 times. He kept
trying rather than being afraid
of failure and finally achieved
success. One unique incident
happened in Edison’s life when
he was 67 years old. After
inventing the bulb, he invested
millions of dollars for a bulb-
making factory. Unfortunately
in 1914, his factory caught fire
and burned to the ground.
Rather than being depressed he

verybody is passionate about
success. If we talk about
youngsters, then youngsters
want to get success quickly by
shortcuts. If you see in the
eyesof theyoungsterthenyou
will certainly find excitement
and eagerness for success.
Some youngsters want quick
promotion and some want a
lavish lifestyle. Some want to
become successful by doing
some sort of business. But the
biggest problem is that just
after the first failure the
youngsters get disappointed.
It is at these times that the
youngsters need to under-
stand that failure is the first
step of becoming successful.
Failure will give you a par-
ticular kind of experience.
As a result, you become more
conscious, calm and serious
and you also get inspiration
to see the situation from a dif-
ferent perspective. Before
tasting success, many fa-
mous people experienced
failure. When we see any suc-
cessful people we often think
that they are very lucky, but
the other side of the coin is
totally different. And very
less amount of people know
how many struggles they had
faced and how many times
they failed.
When the inventor of the
light bulb, Thomas Edison
was successful in his inven-
tion, then we all got to know
that before the actual inven-
tion he failed 10,000 times. He
kept trying rather than being
afraid of failure and finally

pressed he said, “Whatsoever
happened is for my own good.
All my mistakes have now
burned down. Now I will
think of something new. And
will give this world some new
inventions.” and in just a
time period of 3 weeks, he
invented the Gramophone.
Today’s youngsters should
learn from this that this is
called a ‘strong mental state.’
The inventor of Mickey
Mouse Walt Disney is also an
amazing example of success.
He didn’t stop trying even af-
ter getting rejected by almost
every newspaper owner. After
the ‘NO’ from everybody
, one
church owner gave him work
of cartoon making. To make
a cartoon, he was drawing a
road and that time he saw a
mouse there. He got inspira-
tion from that mouse and
built a character called Mick-
ey Mouse. That church owner
really liked it and slowly the
whole world became a fan of
Walt Disney’s cartoon.
If you are willing to find,
you will get tons of examples
like this from which you get
the inspiration for not being
scared of failure and keep
moving forward on the path
of success. Here are a few
tips for youngsters.

z Don’t panic when you get
failure while putting effort
for success. Rather than
being disappointed just keep
one thing very clear in mind
that this failure will take you
to success.

z When you get failure, analyze
it thoroughly and avoid
making the same mistake in
the future and keep moving
forward.

z Your mental strength is the
power that will take you
to success. So always try
to make your mind Strong
enough.

z Steps taken in hurry will
once again lead you to
failure. So take every step
slowly but steadily and keep
moving forward firmly in the
right direction for success.
You will surely get success.

SUVENDU ADHIKARI’S
STATEMENT TO SAVE MLAS
Sharat Verma
New Delhi: In West
Bengal, a statement of
BJP Legislature Party
leader Suvendu Adhi-
kari is in the news. He
said that after the fall
of Maha Vikas Agha-
di’s government in Ma-
harashtra, the govern-
ment of Jharkhand will
fall and then the gov-
ernment of Rajasthan
will fall. After that the
government of West
Bengal will fall at the
time of 2024 Lok Sabha
elections. Suvendu
Adhikari has told party
workers at an event in
Cooch Behar that they
will not have to wait till
the 2026 assembly elec-
tions, as before that the
Mamata Banerjee gov-
ernment will fall. He
asked his leaders to ex-
ercise some restraint.
At first glance, this
statement is highly un-
democratic. From this
it seems that the cen-
tral government will
use its power to bring
down the governments
in the states ruled by
the opposition parties.
But actually Suven-
du Adhikari has given
this statement in his
concern. The BJP had
made him the leader of
the legislature party be-
cause he would keep
the party MLAs united.
He is a strong leader
and he defeated Mama-
ta Banerjee in the as-
sembly elections. But
the reality is that he too
has been unable to keep
the MLAs united. One
by one BJP MLAs are
leaving the party. Most
of the leaders who had
left the Trinamool and
joined the BJP have re-
turned to TMC while
two MPs also left the
party
.
Then Suvendu Adhi-
kari while comforting
the MLAs said that the
government will fall in
two years. On this pre-
text, he is trying to
keep the MLAs with
them. But legislators
also understand the re-
ality and that is why
his ‘claims’ are not as
effective, as he thought
them to be.

Events of Shiv

Mumbai: Shiv Sena

remake of the mutiny
in Lok Janshakti Party
.
Everything is exactly
like what happened
with LJP. After the
death of Ram Vilas Pas-
wan,hissonChiragPas-
wan took over the party
.
One day suddenly his
uncle Pashupati Paras
parted ways with five of
the six party MPs and
got the recognition of
the real Lok Janshakti
Party quickly
. It is a dif-
ferent matter that he did
not get the election sym-
bol but the name of the
party remained with
him and the leader of
that faction - Pashupati
Paras - became a minis-
ter at the Centre. The
lone survivor Chirag
Paswan got the name of
Lok Janshakti Party
Ram Vilas and the heli-
copter election symbol.
Five of the party’s six
MPs got separated but
the entire organization
of the party remained
with Chirag.
This is exactly what
has happened with Shiv
Sena in Maharashtra.
After Bal Thackeray
, Ud-
dhav Thackeray
, who
was heading the party
,
was handling the Shiv
Sena in his own way
.
Suddenly one day the

with him. More than
half of the party’s Lok
Sabha MPs are also
ready to part ways. But

GOVT SLAPS EXPORT TAX
ON PETROL, DIESEL ATF
EFFECTIVE FROM JULY 1
New Delhi (PTI): The
government on Friday
slapped an export tax
on petrol, diesel and jet
fuel (ATF) while also
joining nations like the
UK in imposing a wind-
fall tax on crude oil pro-
duced locally
.
A `6 per litre tax on
export of petrol and
ATF and `13 per litre
tax on export of diesel
is effective from July 1,
finance ministry notifi-
cations showed.
Additionally
,a`23,250
per tonne tax was levied
on crude oil produced
domestically
.
The export tax is to
deter companies such
as Reliance Industries
and Rosneft-based Na-
yara Energy from pre-
ferring overseas mar-
kets over domestic sup-
plies. The levy on crude,
which follows record
earningsbystate-owned
ONGC and OIL and pri-
vate sector Cairn Oil
Gas of Vedanta Ltd,
alone will fetch the gov-
ernment over Rs 7,000
crore annually on about
30 million tonnes of
crude oil produced do-
mestically
.
A windfall tax is a
one-off tax on compa-
nies that have seen
their profits surge ex-
traordinarily not be-
cause of any clever in-
vestment decision
they’ve taken or an in-
crease in efficiency or
innovation, but simply
because of favorable
market conditions.
The government also
framed new rules re-
quiring oil companies
exporting petrol to sell
in the domestic market,
the equivalent of 50%
of the amount sold to
overseas customers, for
the fiscal year ending
March 31, 2023. For die-
sel, this requirement
has been put at 30% of
the volume exported.
These restrictions on
export are also aimed at
shoring up domestic
supplies at petrol
pumps, some of which
had dried up in states
like MP, Rajasthan and
Gujarat as private refin-
ers preferred exporting
fuel to selling locally
.
Exports were pre-
ferred as retail petrol
and diesel prices by
dominant PSU retailers
have been capped at
rates way lower than
the cost. This meant
that private retailers,
who control less than
10% of the market
share, either sell fuel at
loss or lose market
share if they were to
sell at a higher cost.
New Delhi (PTI): Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
on Friday said the government will review every fortnight
the new taxes levied on crude, diesel and ATF based on
international prices. She said these are “extraordinary
times” and oil prices are internationally unbridled. “We
do not want to discourage export, but want domestic
availability to increase,” Sitharaman told reporters here.
She said that if oil is not being available and exports are
happening at such phenomenal profit, we need at least
some of it for our own citizens. “We need to take this
twin-pronged approach,” the minister added.

FM Nirmala Sithara-

produce much gold. So,
the import of yellow
metal put stress on the
country’s forex.
“Gold is inelastic in
its demand. So, you
would want to see

try to discourage to that
extent people import-
ing. Or if you are im-
porting and you still
want to import, please
pay up that much more
so that country can
have some revenue,”
she said.
There has been a sud-
den surge in imports of
gold. In May, a total of
107 tonnes of gold was
imported and in June
also, it was significant.

Factory orders and

State-owned Coal In-
dia on Friday said
its coal production
increased 29% year-
on-year to a record
159.8 million tonne

this fiscal. It had
produced 124 MT
coal in the year-ago
period, Coal India
Limited (CIL) said.
CIL ended April-
June FY23 capping a
historic high of
29%. CIL produced
159.8 MT of coal,
which is 35.8 MT
more than the 124
MT in April-June
FY22. All the coal
companies of CIL
have registered
growth, the compa-
ny said.
Such growth was
never witnessed in

grows 17.2% in June
New Delhi (PTI): Pow-

recorded at 114.48 BU.
Moreover, peak pow-
er demand met, which
is the highest supply in
a day, during June this

(on June 8). The peak
power supply stood at
191.24 GW in June 2021.
The power consump-
tion and demand were
affected in June 2020,
due to the imposition of
lockdown restrictions
for curbing the spread
of the coronavirus.
According to experts,
power consumption
and demand rose main-

The Shiv Sena had

the Shiv Sena had de-

of the underground
Metro 3 line from

ballooned by over
Rs10,000 crore over
the last five years.
Though the construc-

metro projects pro-
gressed rapidly during
the first two years of
the COVID-19 pandem-

cost escalation. The 33.5
km Metro 3 line project
has escalated by
Rs10,000 crore from
Rs23,136 crore estimat-

of the total project cost.
According to a cost es-

earlier this year, land
acquisition cost shot up
from Rs590 crore to

The Devendra Fad-

opposed it, and
launched a Twitter

Though Shiv Sena

while being a part of

its support for Aarey
conservation only after
the Maha Vikas Aghadi

power in 2019. In Octo-

acres of land around
the car shed in Aarey

Mumbai: The IAS and

again caught up in the
political spin of an ex-

impact at least three
top administrative

when the bureaucracy

  • 1. Fadnavis, Uddhav to revive war over Aarey car shed? Satish Nandgaonkar Mumbai: The location of car sheds for Mum- bai’s upcoming Metro network has become a freshflashpointbetween the newly-installed Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition. Mum- bai’sgreenactivistsAar- ey Conservation Group vowed to revive the movementtoSaveAarey Forest. After taking the oath of office on Thursday , Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis held their first cabinet meet- ing at the Mantralaya. They directed the state advocate general to pre- pare a legal strategy to shift the controversial car shed from Kanjur- marg in central suburbs back to its original loca- tion of Aarey Milk Colo- ny in western suburbs. Thoughnoformalcab- inet decision was an- nounced, former Chief Minister Uddhav Thack- eray came out strongly against the move to shift the metro car shed. “I re- quest you with folded hands not to direct your anger against me in Mumbai. Please do not playwithMumbai’senvi- ronment. There was no ego in the proposal to movethecarshedtoKan- jurmarg. Please do not pursue a car shed at Aar- ey ,” Thackeray said at a press conference. He added, “One night, the trees were chopped in Aarey . After I became the CM, I suggested the Kanjurmargalternative. I am with the environ- mentalists and the envi- ronment. The land at Kanjurmarg belongs to Maharashtra, and it should be used for Mum- bai’s benefit. A car shed at Kanjurmarg could help Metro lines reach Balapur-Ambernath(far eastern suburbs),” said Thackeray ,whoreceived strong support from Ma- harashtra Congress chief Nana Patole. However, Deputy Chief MinisterDevendra Fadnavis said that while he respects Uddhav Thackeray’s request, the carshedatAareyColony can be completed faster. “Metro project construc- tion is happening at a faster rate. But, without a car shed, the network cannot become function- al.Around25%of thecar shed work at Aarey is al- ready complete, and the rest can be completed quickly . Even if the Kan- jurmarg land is availa- ble, it will take at least four years for the car shed to be operational there,” he said. At a cabinet meet, officials were directed to relocate Metro car shed from Kanjurmarg to Aarey Milk Colony ‘AGAINST AAREY CAR SHED’ Speaking to First India, environmental activist D Stalin, who was part of the Save Aarey Movement, said, “We will soon revive our movement if the car shed is relocated to Aarey. In 2019, we tweeted daily for 1,000 days and asked Devendra Fadnavis to stop the car shed work. He has given 65 hectares of land to Mumbai Metro Rail Corpo- ration Ltd (MMRCL) when it requires only 28 hectares for the car shed.” He said around 812 acre of Aarey land converted into reserve forest by the MVA govern- ment will not be affected by the car shed. Speaking over phone, the two leaders also dis- cussed the state of glob- al energy and food mar- kets, PM Modi’s office said in a statement. “They exchanged ideas on how bilateral trade in agricultural goods, fertilisers and pharma products could be en- couraged further,” the statement said. “The leaders also discussed global issues, including the state of the interna- tional energy and food markets.” As India continues to be an importer of Rus- sian crude oil, Putin told Modi that Russia remains a reliable sup- plier of grains, fertilis- ers and energy . From the very begin- ning of the conflict be- tween Russia and Ukraine, India has maintained its stand on resolving the issue through dialogue and diplomacy instead of war. During the cabinet meeting held on Thurs- day chaired by newly installed Chief Minis- ter Eknath Shinde, it was decided that the special session of the Assembly will be held on July 02 and 03. How- ever, the dates have been rescheduled. Shinde, who has the support of 39 MLAs of the breakaway Shiv Sena group, 10 legisla- tors of smaller parties and independents as well as 106 MLAs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to move the motion of confidence on the floor of the House during the two-day session. NEWS MUMBAI | SATURDAY, JULY 2, 2022 02 www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epapers/mumbai I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia By Trideep Lahkar Guwahati: Maharash- tra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs who had camped at a Guwahati luxury ho- tel for eight days cleared their bills be- fore they checked out on Wednesday , a hotel official confirmed on Friday . Though the hotel of- ficials are tight-lipped on the total bill, sources said Rs68-70 lakh were paid for their stay in the upscale Radisson Blu hotel located at Gotana- gar near Jalukbari. A total of 70 rooms in different floors of the hotel were booked for the Maharashtra legis- lators and their associ- ates. The hotel had closed its restaurants, banquets and other fa- cilities for the non-resi- dent guests from June 22 to June 29, the period of their stay . “The Maharashtra MLAs stayed in the ho- tel as normal guests. They cleared the bills before leaving. There is no money pending,” a senior official of the ho- tel said, on condition of anonymity . The official, however, declined to share the amount billed but said the lawmakers had stayed “in a mix of su- perior and deluxe cate- gory rooms”. According to the Radisson Blu’s website, the tariffs of different types of rooms in its Guwahati property are dynamic and vary al- most every day . Sources said that usually the rent for su- perior rooms is around Rs7,500 and Rs8,500 for deluxe ones. After dis- counts and taxes the figure is estimated to be around Rs68 lakh. With the Goods Ser- vices Tax (GST), the amount payable for the two types of rooms is around Rs7,280 and Rs8,400 per person for a night. There are a few superior rooms and around 55 deluxe rooms in the hotel. The total food bill is believed to be around Rs22 lakh for the rebel MLAs. Asked if the guests availed any other paid services, the hotel offi- cial said, “They used only facilities which are available as complimen- tary in the room rent.” Shinde, rebel MLAs paid Guwahati hotel bills before leaving PAYMENT IN FULL lll According to hotel officials, 70 room charges billed to them came to a total of `68 lakh Maha CM Eknath Shinde (right) with rebel MLA Uday Samant and other legislators at Radisson Blu in Guwahati. —FILE PHOTO SHORT STAY The dissident Shiv Sena legislators and some Independ- ent MLAs led by Shinde had stayed in the hotel in Guwahati, around 2,700 km away from Mumbai. They were stationed there from the early morning of June 22 in an attempt to topple the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maha- rashtra. They left for Goa on Wednesday. Renni Abraham Mumbai: The Bharati- ya Janata Party’s strategy for the two- day session of the Ma- harashtra Legislative Assembly to elect its candidate Rahul Narvekar as the new speaker of the lower house, will likely find political opportunity for the freshly-minted Maharashtra Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde. He will try and stamp his author- ity over the Shiv Sena party . The CM is expected to carry out the speaker’s electionbyavoicevoteto further embarrass for- mer CM Uddhav Thack- erayloyalistMLAs,even though at least one Sena MLA is expected to ab- sent himself ostensibly due to an alleged COV- ID-19 infection. Meanwhile, the Thackeray-led Shiv Sena is now following a wait and watch policy over the process of gov- ernment formation in Maharashtra, while ex- pecting fissures over portfolio allocations to break out into the open. A Sena ex-minister’s aide told First India, “The new CM Eknath Shinde’s late-night flight to Goa was neces- sitated to quell infight- ing among the 40 rebel Sena MLAs, most of whom are demanding a plum portfolio in the new government. We are hopeful that the dis- contentwillleadto‘ghar wapsi’ of many disgrun- tled MLAs who fail to make the cut. That is why the BJP has con- sciously devised a three- phased game plan to an- nounce Shinde’s new council of cabinet min- isters and ministers of state.” He added that Thack- eray’s loyalist MLAs numbering 16, would probably attend the As- sembly session. Al- though, the matter of no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Narhari Sitaram Zirw- al, as well as, the dis- qualification of the Shinde camp’s 16 MLAs is currently sub-judice pending the decision of the Supreme Court on July 11, 2022. CM Shinde may issue a whip for all party MLAs belonging to the Shiv Sena, including the 16 Uddhav Thackeray loyalists, to remain pre- sent in the state Assem- bly on Sunday . He may ask them to vocally vote for the BJP-proposed candidate Rahul Narvekar to not only ef- fectively lay claim over the party itself, but also the party symbol of ‘dhanush baan’ (bow and arrow). A senior BJP leader said, “The real issue is not about who is de- manding what portfolio. However, independent MLA Bacchu Kadu’s three-MLA party is seeking the rural devel- opment portfolio, as is another independent MLA in the Shinde camp. With its emphasis on ‘clean’ candidates, the BJP is not likely to give a berth in the state cabinet of ministers to rebel Sena MLAs like Pratap Sarnaik and Yamini Jadhav, both of whom are under the scanner of the Enforce- ment Directorate. It would send the wrong message that tainted politicians were seeking to ally with the BJP sim- ply to avoid criminal prosecution.” Eventhe10-oddMLAs leaving will not dent the sheer majority that the BJP supported govern- ment enjoys, he added. ‘PHONE HAS BEEN TAPPED’ MAHA CONG BLAMES BJP FOR RESCHEDULING ASSEMBLY SESSION When contacted, Neelamtai Gorhe, the deputy chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, said, “I am in the Upper House. The (special) session is only of the Assembly, which is the Lower House. A member or office-bearer of one House is not supposed to speak in the other House. (Please) talk to either the deputy speaker of the Assembly or the secretariat officer. Just be- cause I am available, I should not be commenting on everything. When asked for an off-the-record comment by First India for a sense of the legal position on the legislative procedure regarding the special session, she made a startling revelation and said, “All my phones are tapped. No com- ment on my side. I am sorry.” Mumbai: The Maharashtra Congress on Friday claimed that the special session of the state As- sembly has been rescheduled from July 02 to July 03 because it coincides with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national executive meeting. Taking to Twit- ter, the Congress’ state unit Spokesperson Sachin Sawant claimed that the state Assembly session was postponed because it coincides with the BJP’s national executive meeting in Hyderabad. “It is a sign that the BJP has started consider- ing itself omnipotently more powerful than the Constitution,” Sawant charged. The Sena further asked BJP that why did it not honour the pact of rotational CM in 2019, if Deven- dra Fadnavis had to take oath as the Deputy CM. Saamana--the edi- torial mouthpiece of Sena--pointed out that the BJP should take note of the quote of Late Prime Minister Atal Biha- ri Vajpayee, who said that he did not believe in breaking parties and secur- ing power. The pre- sent BJP should take note of it, the mouthpiece added. “You have gained power through im- moral means, but what next? You have to answer this ques- tion,” it added. First India Bureau Thane: The Thane unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday thanked the party’s central leader- ship for honouring Mumbai’s neighbour- ing district by making regional strongman Eknath Shinde the new chief minister of Maharashtra. Shinde, who had re- belled against the Shiv Sena on June 21 and succeeded in bringing down the Uddhav Thackeray govern- ment, was on June 30 sworn in as CM against overwhelming specula- tion that senior BJP leader Devendra Fad- navis would be given the top post. “It is the first time someone from Thane has become CM. This is due to the BJP’s central leadership. I thank Prime Minister Naren- dra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party National President JP Nadda for this honour given to Thane,” said MLC and district unit chief Niranjan Davkhare. Meanwhile, groups like the CREDAI-MCHI Thane also welcomed the appointment, claim- ing it would bring devel- opment in the region. It is a matter of pride for Thanekars as Shin- de over the years has played a big role in making Thane the city of choice to settle in for people, said CREDAI- MCHI Thane preez Ji- tendra Mehta. First India Bureau Panaji: After a video showing the rebel MLAs dancing to the tune of Marathi songs went viral, Maha- rashtra Chief Minis- ter Eknath Shinde has expressed his dis- pleasure over the way a section of MLAs from his group danced in Goa follow- ing the announce- ment of his name for the top post. On Thursday, the re- bel Shiv Sena MLAs broke into a dance in the lobby of a luxury hotel in Goa, where they are currently staying, when they heard that Shinde was going to be the next chief minister of Maha- rashtra. However, sev- eral netizens slammed them for the way they danced, terming the act as indecent. On his return to Goa, Shinde expressed his displeasure over their dance and objected to it. During his address to the MLAs at the ho- tel, Chief Minister Shinde took a strong objection to their dance. He asked them to ensure that such things do not happen in future. While `Osmanabad’ was a name that was given to the city in the 20th century, the earli- est mention of `Dhar- ashiv’ dates back to the eighth century when the Satavahana dynas- ty ruled this region, said a local historian. The state cabinet also granted that Au- rangabad be renamed as Sambhajinagar. Both the cities, now in central Maharashtra, were part of the Hy- derabad state before Independence. Writer and historian Raj Kulkarni said that during the Nizam’s rule, Osmanabad was a key city of the Gulbar- ga province. Naldurg fort, located close to the city, was the district headquarters till 1911. “As per R S Morwanchi- kar’s book, ‘Satavahana Kalin Maharashtra’ (Maharashtra in the Sa- tavahana era), a cop- perplate inscription records donation of land near `Dharashiv’,” said Kulkarni. This in- scription is from the eighth century, he said. Karakandchirayu, written by a Jain saint in the 11th century, re- fers to Dharashiv Caves which are located 5 km away from today’s Os- manabad city, he said. Researcher Dr Som- nath Rode, who has written a thesis on Dharashiv Caves, says that a king named Shiv from Ter, an ancient trading centre, built this cave complex after a water source was found in the area. `Dha- ra’ in Marathi means a flow or stream of water. ‘Bhartiya Sanskruti Kosh’ by Marathi schol- ar-writer Mahadevs- hastri Joshi claims that when the Dharashiv caves were built, two guards named Dhara and Shiv were deployed to guard them, hence the name `Dharashiv’. Dharashiv, the 8th century name makes a comeback BACK TO BASICS lll Before Independence, Osmanabad and Aurangabad cities, now situatded in the central part of Maharashtra, were parts of the Hyderabad state under Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan First India Bureau Mumbai: In the wake of the recent US Su- preme Court’s decision to abolish abortion as a federal constitutional right, the Bombay High Court, in an order passed on June 27, 2022, granted liberty to a mi- nor girl to undergo med- ical termination of her pregnancy . The court allowed the termination of a 16 weeks’ pregnancy of a minor who was a victim of sexual abuse. The HC also noted that the Su- preme Court, in its or- der of 2009, observed that reproductive choice is an insegraga- ble part of a woman’s personal liberty as en- visaged under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. A Bombay High Court bench compris- ing Justice Urmila Joshi Phalke and Jus- tice AS Chandurkar in an order noted, “She (the victim) contended that said pregnancy is unwanted. Admittedly, she cannot be forced to give birth to a child. As observed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court that it is the right of a woman to have a reproductive choice. She has a choice to give birth to the child or not.” The bench noted that the Medical Board opined that the preg- nancy could be termi- nated if the petitioner is a minor girl. The petitioner or vic- tim girl through plea contends that she is a child in conflict with the law and lodged with the Government Girls Observation Home in Amravati. The court noted that during the investiga- tion it was revealed to the investigating officer that the petitioner is pregnant and, there- fore, a separate FIR has been register under Section 376 with Sec- tion 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexu- al Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. She is victim of sexual assault and, therefore, another crime was registered on the basis of report lodged by her mother. While passing its di- rection, the bench ob- served, “In such cir- cumstances, we are of the view that declining such permission to the petitioner would be tan- tamount to compelling her to continue with her pregnancy. It will not only be a burden on her, but it would also cause grave injury to her mental health.” First India Bureau Mumbai: Mumbai city and its suburbs will re- ceive moderate to heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours the India Meteorological Depart- ment(IMD)predictedon Friday and the possibil- ity of very heavy to ex- tremely heavy showers at isolated places. Ajit Pa- war’s return to the NCP camp scuttled Devendra Fad- navis’ chance of becoming the chief minister for anoth- er term. Now strongman Pa- war could face heat from the Enforcement Directorate and other Central agencies. On the other hand, Uddhav Thackeray entering into an alliance with strange bed- fellows NCP and the Con- gress was not only a setback to the BJP’s Hindutva agenda but it also was a loss of a frenemy which supported it on several national issues. With Fadnavis being made to back Eknath Shinde for chief minister’s post and em- barrassingly settling for the CM’s post, the Shiv Sena has been weaned away from the Thackerays and a split in the cadres now looks imminent. For Maharashtra politics it is a historical development as it marks the end of Balasaheb Thackeray’s legacy. With a majority of Sena MLAs sid- ing with Shinde, all that the rebel leader has to do is to win over the cadre before the Brihan Mumbai Corporation elections to justify its claim of being the real Shiv Sena. Some battles still lie ahead. The Uddhav camp is making a futile attempt in the Supreme Court to get the rebels disqualified. It will also have to fight to keep the Shiv w name. l Vol 1 l Issue No. 57 l RNI TITLE NO. MAHENG/2022/14652 Printed and published by Anita Hada Sangwan on behalf of First Express Publishers. He kept trying rather than being afraid of failure and finally achieved success. One unique incident happened in Edison’s life when he was 67 years old. After inventing the bulb, he invested millions of dollars for a bulb- making factory. Unfortunately in 1914, his factory caught fire and burned to the ground. Rather than being depressed he said that whatsoever happened was for his own good. verybody is passionate about success. If we talk about youngsters, then youngsters want to get success quickly by shortcuts. If you see in the eyesof theyoungsterthenyou will certainly find excitement and eagerness for success. Some youngsters want quick promotion and some want a lavish lifestyle. Some want to become successful by doing some sort of business. But the biggest problem is that just after the first failure the youngsters get disappointed. It is at these times that the youngsters need to under- stand that failure is the first step of becoming successful. Failure will give you a par- ticular kind of experience. As a result, you become more conscious, calm and serious and you also get inspiration to see the situation from a dif- ferent perspective. Before tasting success, many fa- mous people experienced failure. When we see any suc- cessful people we often think that they are very lucky, but the other side of the coin is totally different. And very less amount of people know how many struggles they had faced and how many times they failed. When the inventor of the light bulb, Thomas Edison was successful in his inven- tion, then we all got to know that before the actual inven- tion he failed 10,000 times. He kept trying rather than being afraid of failure and finally achievedsuccess.Oneunique incident happened in Edi- son’s life when he was 67 years old. After inventing the bulb, he invested millions of dollars for a bulb-making fac- tory. Unfortunately in 1914, his factory caught fire and the whole factory burned to the ground and he did not even have insurance for that factory . Rather than being de- pressed he said, “Whatsoever happened is for my own good. All my mistakes have now burned down. Now I will think of something new. And will give this world some new inventions.” and in just a time period of 3 weeks, he invented the Gramophone. Today’s youngsters should learn from this that this is called a ‘strong mental state.’ The inventor of Mickey Mouse Walt Disney is also an amazing example of success. He didn’t stop trying even af- ter getting rejected by almost every newspaper owner. After the ‘NO’ from everybody , one church owner gave him work of cartoon making. To make a cartoon, he was drawing a road and that time he saw a mouse there. He got inspira- tion from that mouse and built a character called Mick- ey Mouse. That church owner really liked it and slowly the whole world became a fan of Walt Disney’s cartoon. If you are willing to find, you will get tons of examples like this from which you get the inspiration for not being scared of failure and keep moving forward on the path of success. Here are a few tips for youngsters. z Don’t panic when you get failure while putting effort for success. Rather than being disappointed just keep one thing very clear in mind that this failure will take you to success. z When you get failure, analyze it thoroughly and avoid making the same mistake in the future and keep moving forward. z Your mental strength is the power that will take you to success. So always try to make your mind Strong enough. z Steps taken in hurry will once again lead you to failure. So take every step slowly but steadily and keep moving forward firmly in the right direction for success. You will surely get success. SUVENDU ADHIKARI’S STATEMENT TO SAVE MLAS Sharat Verma New Delhi: In West Bengal, a statement of BJP Legislature Party leader Suvendu Adhi- kari is in the news. He said that after the fall of Maha Vikas Agha- di’s government in Ma- harashtra, the govern- ment of Jharkhand will fall and then the gov- ernment of Rajasthan will fall. After that the government of West Bengal will fall at the time of 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Suvendu Adhikari has told party workers at an event in Cooch Behar that they will not have to wait till the 2026 assembly elec- tions, as before that the Mamata Banerjee gov- ernment will fall. He asked his leaders to ex- ercise some restraint. At first glance, this statement is highly un- democratic. From this it seems that the cen- tral government will use its power to bring down the governments in the states ruled by the opposition parties. But actually Suven- du Adhikari has given this statement in his concern. The BJP had made him the leader of the legislature party be- cause he would keep the party MLAs united. He is a strong leader and he defeated Mama- ta Banerjee in the as- sembly elections. But the reality is that he too has been unable to keep the MLAs united. One by one BJP MLAs are leaving the party. Most of the leaders who had left the Trinamool and joined the BJP have re- turned to TMC while two MPs also left the party . Then Suvendu Adhi- kari while comforting the MLAs said that the government will fall in two years. On this pre- text, he is trying to keep the MLAs with them. But legislators also understand the re- ality and that is why his ‘claims’ are not as effective, as he thought them to be. GOVT SLAPS EXPORT TAX ON PETROL, DIESEL ATF EFFECTIVE FROM JULY 1 New Delhi (PTI): The government on Friday slapped an export tax on petrol, diesel and jet fuel (ATF) while also joining nations like the UK in imposing a wind- fall tax on crude oil pro- duced locally . A `6 per litre tax on export of petrol and ATF and `13 per litre tax on export of diesel is effective from July 1, finance ministry notifi- cations showed. Additionally ,a`23,250 per tonne tax was levied on crude oil produced domestically . The export tax is to deter companies such as Reliance Industries and Rosneft-based Na- yara Energy from pre- ferring overseas mar- kets over domestic sup- plies. The levy on crude, which follows record earningsbystate-owned ONGC and OIL and pri- vate sector Cairn Oil Gas of Vedanta Ltd, alone will fetch the gov- ernment over Rs 7,000 crore annually on about 30 million tonnes of crude oil produced do- mestically . A windfall tax is a one-off tax on compa- nies that have seen their profits surge ex- traordinarily not be- cause of any clever in- vestment decision they’ve taken or an in- crease in efficiency or innovation, but simply because of favorable market conditions. The government also framed new rules re- quiring oil companies exporting petrol to sell in the domestic market, the equivalent of 50% of the amount sold to overseas customers, for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2023. For die- sel, this requirement has been put at 30% of the volume exported. These restrictions on export are also aimed at shoring up domestic supplies at petrol pumps, some of which had dried up in states like MP, Rajasthan and Gujarat as private refin- ers preferred exporting fuel to selling locally . Exports were pre- ferred as retail petrol and diesel prices by dominant PSU retailers have been capped at rates way lower than the cost. This meant that private retailers, who control less than 10% of the market share, either sell fuel at loss or lose market share if they were to sell at a higher cost. New Delhi (PTI): Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said the government will review every fortnight the new taxes levied on crude, diesel and ATF based on international prices. She said these are “extraordinary times” and oil prices are internationally unbridled. “We do not want to discourage export, but want domestic availability to increase,” Sitharaman told reporters here. She said that if oil is not being available and exports are happening at such phenomenal profit, we need at least some of it for our own citizens. “We need to take this twin-pronged approach,” the minister added. ‘Govt to review new taxes every fortnight’ GST collection rise 56% to `1.44 lakh cr New Delhi (PTI): GST collections in June witnessed a 56% year-on-year increase to over `1.44 lakh crore on economic recovery and better anti-eva- sion measures, the finance ministry said on Friday . Speaking at the GST Day celebra- tions, Finance Min- ister Nirmala Si- tharaman said `1.4 lakh crore is the “rough bottom line” for monthly GST revenue collections. Along with the agriculture infrastruc- ture development cess (AIDC) of 2.5%, the ef- fective gold customs duty will be 15%. FM Nirmala Sithara- man said India does not produce much gold. Moreover, peak pow- er demand met, which is the highest supply in a day, during June this year remained at an all- time high of 209.80 GW (on June 8). The peak power supply stood at 191.24 GW in June 2021. The power consump- tion and demand were affected in June 2020, due to the imposition of lockdown restrictions for curbing the spread of the coronavirus.
