All state university
exams in the national
capital will be cancelled
given the disruption
caused by the pandemic
and the ensuing
lockdown, Delhi deputy

said. This will apply to
Delhi state universities
and not to University of

Chief minister Arvind

New Delhi: With the easing
of lockdown restrictions,
the Indian economy is
showing signs of going
back to normalcy, Reserve
Bank of India (RBI) Gover-
nor Shaktikanta Das said
on Saturday. Delivering the
keynote address at the 7th
SBI Banking & Econom-
ics Conclave, Das said the
central bank was prioritis-
ing on both growth and
financial stability, and has
taken several measures to
protect the financial system
and support the economy
during the current crisis.
“The topmost prior-
ity for the RBI is growth;
financial stability is equally
important,” Das said. “The
RBI has taken several
measures to protect our
financial system, and sup-
port the economy in the
current crisis.”
The Indian economy
has started showing signs
of going back to normalcy
after the easing of restric-

Sachin Pilot demon-
strated his strength
of at least around one
dozen Congress MLAs
by taking them to a
seven star ITC Bharat
hotel at Gurgaon. The
move is aimed at cre-
ating sufficient pres-
sure over Congress
high command to lis-
ten to his group min-
istersandMLAs’woes
against the style and
functioning of Ashok
Gehlot government in
general and the chief
minister in particu-
lar. But according
sources close to 10

ment has yet been
sought by Pilot him-
self orhiscampMLAs
to meet Sonia or Ra-
hul on Sunday. In a
surprise move, sud-
denly, almost 12 Pilot
camp MLAs report-
edly landed at the
seven star hotel,
though the initial
number was being in-
dicatedto17-18MLAs.
According to sourc-
es, Pilot himself visit-
ed the hotel and met
the MLAs. Thereafter,
Pilot was seen sitting
‘cool’ at his 5 Canning
Lane, New Delhi resi-
dence. Pilot camp’s
sudden and surprise
move, created a flutter
in Jaipur and New Del-
hi and till late evening,
neither the chief min-
ister nor Ahmed Patel
or Avinash Pande had
any specific ‘clue’
to know
what was the ultimate
purpose of this ‘Gur-
gaon parade’ of Pilot’s
supporter MLAs. Po-
litical observers are
also clueless what
has ultimately in-
spired Pilot to take
such a bold and risky
step, which could ul-
timately tarnish the
image, Status and
goodwill in front of
Sonia and Rahul? In
this context, another
question is also being
asked whether this
‘Gurgaon exercise’ is
engineered, headed
and controlled by
Pilot himself or
BJP discreetly
holds the remote
control of this Pilot
operation?
During the day, there
was also a speculation
that Pilot might meet
BJP President JP Na-
dda but till late evening
there was no confirma-
tion to this news. How-
ever, sources close to
Nadda only indicated
that BJP is having a
close watch on Ra-
jasthan developments
but nothing is final (on
a speculated alliance
between BJP and PIlot
camp in Rajasthan).
According to highly
placed sources, if Pi-
lot camp really suc-
ceeds in managing
atleast 30 Congress
MLAs, then, if re-
quired BJP may like
to extend its ‘moral
support’ to Pilot
camp’s move to re-
duce Gehlot govern-
ment to a minority,
followed by a BJP
government in Ra-
jasthan, may be after
a small stint of Pres-
ident rule. So at the
moment, no major
break-up is expected in
Rajasthan Congress,
because still Pilot does
not appear to have ‘ad-

far as BJP high com-

Jaipur: The excise de-

extent so much so that
the Finance depart-

eration. Although the
excise department has
failed to break the nex-

tors in Jaipur. During
its special drive against
illegal liquor, the de-

March 25 and July 6
conducted 35089 raids
and registered 3625 cas-
es. It arrested 1078 per-

460 cases of overpricing

The liquor mafia has
been using Shahjahan-
pur-Jaipur-Udaipur as
a transit route for its il-
legal supply to Gujarat.
ACS (Finance) Niran-
jan Arya and FSR Dr
Prithvi decided to break
this nexus. A special op-

Bikaner: The state unit
of DRI in a major action
raided 3 premises in Bi-
kaner and one in Jaipur
and unravelled evasion
of customs duty of Rs 4
crore in the import of
salt used in the poppa-
dom industry. After the
Pulwama attack, all the
trade relations between
India and Pakistan have
seized as most of the
items now attract a duty
of 200%. So the poppa-
dom industry of Bikan-
er has been getting the
required Pakistani salt
via Afghanistan where
the duty is only 15%.
Instances of Paki-
stani salt being import-
ed in the garb of Sodi-

also to the notice of
DRI. Sodium Bicarbo-
nate attracts a customs
duty of only 7.5%. The
documents confiscated
during the Saturday
raid will further facili-

Eight member DRI
team raided about half
a dozen business estab-
lishments in Bikaner in
connection with ‘Saji

and has seized docu-
ments from three main
businessmen. The busi-
nessmen deposited Rs 1
crore customs duty to

brands involved in the
business.

SCALE-UP TESTING,
BREAK CHAIN TO
CONTAIN COVID
ovid-19 cases are rising rapidly,
touching a new high every day. In
early March, India was reporting
two to three cases daily. Three
months later 27,114 cases were reg-
istered in 24 hours, the highest daily spike yet,
pushing the total beyond 8 lakh. The only con-
solation is the recovery of 516,338 patients.
The other reason for optimism is 22,153 deaths
in India are the lowest among countries like
the US, Brazil, the UK, Italy, and Spain.
The gravity of the situation led Prime Min-
ister Narendra Modi to chair a high-level re-
view meeting attended by Home Minister
Amit Shah, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan,
and others. Preparedness of every state,
many of whom are re-imposing lockdowns
and the overall situation in the country was
taken stock of. Modi stressed on “continued
emphasis on preventing the spread of infec-
tion”. He specially mentioned Delhi where
Centre, State, and local authorities came to-
gether to contain the pandemic. Without
mentioning Uttar Pradesh and Haryana,
Modi wanted “other states” to adopt a similar
approach to contain the pandemic in the en-
tire NCR region.
When it comes to preventing the virus from
spreading, it is Mumbai’s Dharavi slum
which stands out. The slum reported a single-
digit increase in cases on Tuesday, Wednes-
day, and Thursday before recording 12 new
cases on Friday. At one point Dharavi was
being described as a potential Covid-19 bomb.
The WHO president Tedros Adhanom Ghe-
breyesus cited the slum as an example of how
an intense Covid-19 outbreak “can still be
brought back under control”.
But Dharavi found no mention in PM’s re-
view meeting because Maharashtra, where
Mumbai alone has over 90,000 cases, along
with Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are major
contributors to India’s growing Covid-19
tally. Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and West Ben-
gal are fast catching up. City after city is clos-
ing down --- Pune, Chennai, and Bengaluru
being some. In UP, where a lockdown is in
place for the weekend, is mulling another
round of lockdown.
Prime minister’s concerns for breaking the
pandemic’s spread can be best understood
from what the Reserve Bank of India Gover-
nor Shaktikanta Das said that the Covid-19 is
the worst health and economic crisis in 100
years “with unprecedented negative conse-
quencesforoutput,jobs,andwell-being”.“The
pandemic, perhaps,” he said, “represents so
far the biggest test of robustness and resil-
ience of our economic and financial system.”
The stark picture painted by Das requires
urgent steps else we will soon have an un-
manageable crisis. The governments have to
scale up testing and not conceal numbers of
those infected. Being in denial will only make
matters worse. The people have a bigger role
to play in breaking the pandemic chain to
control the virus. Scores of people who can
be seen moving around without masks and
flouting social distancing norms don’t realise
the hazard they pose.
IN-DEPTH
C
he news that
the United
States has
bought the glob-
al supply of
remdesivir – a drug that
can treat Covid-19 – has
rightly been criticised as
“treatment nationalism”.
But the US is not the only
country acting selfishly.
The United Kingdom re-
cently banned the export
of dexamethasone – the
only drug proven to reduce
deaths in people severely
ill with Covid-19.
Treatment nationalism
is not a new phenomenon.
During the 2009 swine flu
pandemic, wealthy coun-
tries dominated the pro-
curement of the swine flu
vaccine. Developing coun-
tries only got access to the
vaccine much later on in
the pandemic – when the
vaccine would have been
less effective – and in much
smaller doses.
This is poor public
health and it is poor multi-
lateralism. It is morally
wrong to think that some-
one has a stronger claim to
a vaccine because they live
in a rich country.
CAN IT BE
PREVENTED?
There is a range of meas-
ures governments could
take to dominate the sup-
ply of a drug or vaccine
during a pandemic. The
first is simple market dom-
ination. This is the case
with remdesivir and the
United States. Because of
intellectual property
rights, remdesivir can only
be manufactured by Gile-
ad, an American company.
And the US has contracted
with Gilead to purchase
nearly all of its supply. So
far, so free market.
However, there are some
options to overcome this.
Patents can, and should, be
circumvented during a
pandemic. Tools like com-
pulsory licencing can give
permission to generic drug
manufacturers to make a
patented drug. Providing
generic manufacturers can
access the raw ingredients
contained within remdesi-
vir they can easily manu-
facture and licence a ge-
neric version of the drug.
They can do so for signifi-
cantly less than the
US$2,340 Gilead is charg-
ing for each patient.
There are other legal op-
tions in the area of “treat-
ment nationalism”, too.
The UK has placed dexa-
methasone on its export
ban list, meaning that any
drug wholesaler attempt-
ing to export this drug to
other countries could lose
their licence.
Other options could in-
cludegovernmentindemni-
fication of drug or vaccine
manufacturers for failure
to perform contractual ob-
ligations, so that even if the
manufacturer has contract-
ed to supply drugs or vac-
cinestoothercountries,the
government will prevent
them from being sued for
breach of contract if they
fail to fulfil the order.
A more extreme meas-
ure would be compulsory
requisition of drugs or
vaccines that are due to be
exported to another coun-
try. In the UK, the Civil
Contingencies Act 2004
makes provision that a
“senior Minister of the
Crown” may make emer-
gency regulations, includ-
ing confiscating private
property with or without
compensation.
While we have not seen
this in a pandemic, there is
an established history of
private assets and land be-
ing seized in an emergency,
includingintheUK.Ithasn’t
happened yet, but it could.

not so subtle ways in vari-

Does he have black in his

does he hold?
Chilling details have
emerged of the “murder”
of George Floyd who was
suffocated to death on May
25 in Minneapolis. When
the bigoted anti-black po-
liceman put his knee on
Floyd’s neck he said he
could not breathe and was
“going to die here”. More
than twenty times he said
he could not breathe. The
police officer paid no need.
Floyd said “Momma, I love
you. Tell my kids I love
them. I am dead”. Accord-
ing to the transcript, at
one point, Floyd insisted
that they were going to kill
him, officer Derek Chau-
vin shouted, “Then stop
talking, stop yelling, it
takes a heck of a lot of
oxygen to talk”.
Michael Holding, a west
Indian, one of the greatest
fast bowlers of all time,
said in Southampton the
other day, “Over the years,
people have been brain-
washed by an education
system that portrayed the
black race negatively and
refused to acknowledge its

My dear Natwar Singh,
When your instructions about sending you the proofs of my book on
Hinduism came it had not even gone to press. It was sent last month, and
I am afraid I cannot expect the proofs to come before April or May. Let me
know how I can send a bound copy to you conveniently. In the meanwhile,
the TLS’ has published a long extract (7000 words) from the introduction,
which given my general appraisement in rational terms of the character of
Hinduism as a religion. There are, of course, many other things in the book.
I wonder if you see the TLS. As the issue for February 3 was a special Indian
issue you may at least have seen it. You may have also heard about it.
Today I am writing with a self-seeking purpose, actually for my eldest
son Dhruva. He works at present as Professor in the Institute of Mass
Communications in Delhi. He is not very happy there, because he feels he
has little opportunity to do artistic work there, being burdened with routine
work. So he has applied for the post of lecturer in photography at the
Evelyn Home College of Commerce and Applied Arts at Lusaka under the
Dept. of Education and Vocational Training of the Govt. of Zambia. He has
given as reference a Zambian and Mr. Ashok Mitra (formerly my own if
you could offer yourself as reference. As his application has been sent off,
and I came to know about it only yesterday, I thought I might ask you to
write to the College, and if possible recommend him. I shall also be greatly
obliged if you could use whatever influence you have there. I assure you
that I shall ask nothing from you than what you think of his qualifications.
He nothing from you than what you think of his qualification. He will have
to justify his selection by his own work. Please let me know what you can
do. If you would rather not intervene I would accept that. But I think you
would not object to being a reference as to character, etc.
I am writing a long article – to be published in 2 parts for Khushwant
Singh, taking your remarks on me as a peg. You have said that if I am
regarded as an Anglophile that is my doing. I am going to explain in
what way I am anglophile or pro-British, and in what way my critics are
anglophile and patriotic. It will be huge fun. I am sure you get the I.W.I.2 at
Lusaka. If you do not I shall send you a clipping.
With all good wishes to you and your wife I remain,
Yours very sincerely,

but all these obstacles
have been overcome and
land needed for the road
has been acquired, thus
making it possible for
the work to start. “This

said officials. Singh
also said that project
will also include the
construction of a Pa-

which has been a long-
pending demand. “The
7km- long Pataudi By-

traffic jams and conges-

New Delhi: Air India
has withdrawn job of-
fers for around 180
trainee cabin crew
members amid the eco-
nomic slowdown in the
aviation sector due to
the coronavirus pan-
demic, said airline offi-
cials on Saturday.
"The airline has tak-

were to join as cabin
crew after completing
their training as the
aviation sector has been
hit hard due to the coro-

said an airline official.
In a letter sent to one
such trainee cabin crew
member on July 6, the
airline said, "In view of
the current aviation
scenario, it would not
be possible for Air India
to impart any further
training to you for en-
gaging your services."
The letter also said,
"In view of above rea-
sons, which are beyond
the control of the com-
pany, it has been decid-
ed to discontinue your
training arrangement
and dispense with the
offer of engagement
with immediate effect."
It further said the
bank guarantees fur-

of joining were being
returned. An Air India
spokesperson said these
are internal issues on
which the airline would

‘BJP TRIO TAKING ORDERS FROM DELHI
BOSSES WHO CAN’T TOLERATE MY GOVT’
Naresh Sharma
Will SOG’s investi-
gation yield result
and will you go for
giving your state-
ment?
There is no one above
the law, be it the Chief
Minister or the Prime
Minister. So whatever
the law says will hap-
pen. We will do our
work and we will fully
cooperate with the
agency.
All kinds of allega-
tions are being made,
but who are the BJP
leaders, it is being
said that a there is a
Union Minister from
Rajasthan, who is
close to Amit Shah,
why not disclose
their name and ex-
pose such people too?
See, when the inves-
tigation starts, it is
taken into considera-
tion that the investiga-
tion of the agencies is
not affected, so it is im-
portant that what are
the facts revealed in the
investigation, whose
statements are there,
who are the MLAs who
have met them, what
have been the transac-
tion, All these things
will be the subject of
investigation and will
be known when the
findings of the investi-
gation are revealed.
The BJP leaders
are saying that the
government is en-
grossed in taping
legislators’ phones
tapped and Rajen-
dra Rathore is say-
ing that a proposal
for breach of privi-
lege in the Assembly
will be brought
against it?
Who can stop them?
it is the right of every
MLA that they can
bring the Privilege Mo-
tion, we will welcome
it. The proposal was
also brought yesterday,
I saw it in the media
and that they are think-
ing of bringing the pro-
posal, we will welcome
it because there is
no alternative to the
truth, God is Truth,
Truth is God.
Prior to Rajya Sab-
ha election, you had
said that horse-trad-
ing is going on. So,
are there any recent
cases? Secondly, as it
happened in MP, then
what are the possi-
bilities that here too,
some MLAs are going
to break? do you have
faith in the MLAs of
the party?
Look at the atmos-
phere that was created
before the Rajya Sabha
elections, this time it
is a much bigger scene
than that. This time it
is more organized.
Secondly, you should
ask the question of
MLAs leaving the gov-
ernment to those who
are colluding in this
conspiracy. They
would know who will
go. We hope that our
MLAs here keep their
word. Rajasthan is the
land of brave, it is the
land of heroes, the
land of martyrs. There
is no history of horse-
trading in Rajasthan.
Now if a traitor comes
out, who has won by
the name of the party,
the party has recog-
nised him, the party
has given big posi-
tions, made the MLA,
made MP, made the
minister, now if they
betray, the people of
Rajasthan will never
forgive them.
Apart from SOG, is
the ACB also investi-
gating the matter
and are three MLAs -
Khushbir Singh, Om-
prakash Hoodla, and
Suresh Tak- on the
radar of the ACB?
See, Mahesh Joshi ji,
who is our Chief Whip,
he filed the compli-
ment, he did it to ACB
as well and SOG, and
whose names are with
SOG, I do not know
about them being with
ACB. Nobody has said
any name to me yet. I
have received a notice
from SOG about giving
my statement. I can say
about myself.
Rajendra Rathore,
Satish Poonia, and
Gulabchand Katari-
ya, you mentioned
their names. Who do
you think is the main
character in these?
I have taken these
three names, all three
people are sitting on
various posts of BJP.
Their bosses are in Del-
hi, whom I always criti-
cise, whether it is
Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi ji or Amit
Shah ji, they are not
able to tolerate me in
the Rajasthan govern-
ment, they are not able
to tolerate my govern-
ment either. So there is
a competition among
these three to fulfill
their target and in-
crease their numbers.
Satish Poonia says
that the MLAs whose
names have come up
in the FIR, they are
denying that we have
not received such a
call or given such a
temptation. Ramila
Khadia has also said
that my father was a
born Congressman, I
am also a Congress-
man and I cannot do
such work. So Poon-
ia says that the
MLAs whose names
are there, they are
clearly refusing at
their level?
All these things are
there. We do not want
to get the trial done
through the media. We
want the reality to
come out, decisions
should be made on the
basis of reality, and I
think that is the better
way. The truth should
be revealed because
confusion has arisen.
An environment was
made around Rajya
Sabha election and the
MLAs had to be housed
for ten days. Now, the
truth will be revealed
to everyone.

Sonia appoints Patidar Patel as
Guj Congress Working President
Gargi Raval
Ahmedabad: With a
twin objective to effect
a younger generation-
al shift in its state
leadership and play
the Patel card, the
Congress high com-
mand has pitchforked
maverick Patidar lead-
er Hardik Patel, 26, as
the party’s working
president of Gujarat.
All of 26 now,
Hardik Patel created
ripples on the political
firmament of Gujarat
with his pitched
Patidar reservation
agitation in July 2015
that not only forced
the BJP to drop Chief
Minister Anandiben
Patel but also sprang
surprises during the
elections to district
and taluka panchayats
in December that year
when the Congress de-
cisively turned the ta-
bles on the ruling BJP.
After the Patidar
agitation came the in-
famous Una atrocity
against the Dalits, that
proved the last straw
for Anandiben and Vi-
jay Rupani was
brought in. Patel’s agi-
tation played a key
role in the Centre an-
nouncing economic
reservation for non-
reserved classes,
though after this his
stock had considera-
bly fallen.
As of now, Patel will
complement Amit
Chavda, who contin-
ues as the State presi-
dent. Sources said
Hardik Patel would be
tested during the up-
coming assembly by-
elections to eight
seats, while he would
be the key planner and
campaigner during lo-
cal body polls towards
the end of this year.
There were specula-
tions earlier that the
young Turk could con-
test the by-election
from Morbi, but sourc-
es point out that this
may not be possible
given that there are
court cases against
him, including one of
sedition. Political ana-
lysts say that putting a
Patidar leader at the
helm of affairs could
prove a googly with
the tenure of sitting
State BJP President
Jitu Vaghani, also a
Patidar, coming to an
end and new appoint-
ment is expected soon.
“I am confident that
in the upcoming by-
election of eight seats,
we will win with a ma-
jority. Congress will
form the government
in 2022 in the state,”
beamed Patel after
this appointment.

YOGI’S ‘STARDOM’
CONTINUES
The ‘fire’ of UP CM
Yogi Adityanath has
been revived ever since
gangster Vikas Dubey
was killed in a police en-
counter. Yogi’s was re-
portedly miffed when
Vikas Dubey and his
henchmen killed 8 po-
licemen and soon after
when UP Police DGP HC
Awasthi sought time to
meet CM, DGP was sent
a message,
“What is the
need to meet
now? Why
are coming
to me emp-
ty-handed? Do some-
thing and show me.”
DGP had understood
message very well, and
events after that are in
front of everyone. Now
an attempt is being
made to probe political
connections of Dubey,
but it is a bitter fact that
he had travelled from
BJP to SP to BSP, and
this time around he was
fighting to contest as-
sembly elections on BJP
ticket. It is worth men-
tioning that in 2001,
Dubey publicly mur-
dered Santosh Shukla,
MoSforBJP,afterwhich
Mayawati was formed
with help of BJP in the
state, but Dubey was not
touched. After this, Mu-
layam Singh ousted
Mayawati govt, but still
there was no decrease
in Dubey’s political
clout. In Yogi Raj,
Dubey’scloutcontinued
for 3 years and it is said
that Dubey also had
close relations with
many officials and min-
isters. Allegations are
also being levelled
against Law Minister
Brajesh Pathak, who
used to be close to gang-
ster Harishankar Ti-
wari and there was a
time ‘Tada’ was im-
posed on Pathak. How-
ever, Hindi saying, “Jab
saiyan bhaye Kotwal,
tab darr kaahe ka”
seems apt.

If Modi’s na-
tionwide in-
vincible image
is being chal-
lenged by
someone, if
someone is
constantly asking him
questions on Corona
and China, it is the pair
of Rahul and Priyanka.
In such a situation,
Muslims of UP have
started feeling that only
Congress can challenge
Modi and Yogi. So,
knowinglyandunknow-
ingly, UP’s Muslims are
returning to Congress
fold, while Mayawati’s
inaction and her ‘pro-
BJP’ tone is also benefit-
ing Congress. Mayawa-
ti’s Dalit vote bank is
rapidly shifting to BJP

served by SP through its
alliance with BSP

Priyanka has
put a lot of ef-
fort to revive
UP Congress
and has set up
commit-
tees in
almost every district.
Lucknow is the most
suitable place for her to
control these efforts to
revive UP Congress, so
Priyanka now wants to
set up her camp in Luc-

are also on the Brahmin
votes, about whom she
believes that they are
feeling cheated in Yogi

since Thakurs are in the

Priyanka has put for-

on Sonia, Rahul and
Priyanka on the issue of
donations by China to
trusts controlled by
Gandhi family is stern
and even BJP national
president JP Nadda is
also vigorously raising
it. In view of the seri-
ousness, Ministry of
Home Affairs has also
formed an ‘Inter Minis-
terial Committee’ to in-
vestigate fund received
from China. Command
of the investigation
committee has been
handed over to Special
Director of ED Vivek R
Wadekar who is chair-
man of the inquiry com-
mittee. This inquiry
committee will investi-
gate Rajiv Gandhi Foun-
dation, Rajiv Gandhi
Charitable Trust and
Indira Gandhi Memori-
al Trust for alleged vio-
lations of I-T irregulari-
ties and foreign fund
raising provisions.
Sources say that the cen-
tral government is hurt
by Rahul on his tenden-
cy to continuously at-
tack it on China and Co-
rona. According to in-
formation from sources,
the Rajiv Gandhi Foun-
dation, headed by Sonia
Gandhi, receivedalarge
fund from the Govern-
ment of the People’s Re-
public of China and the
Chinese Embassy in
India. According to
sources, this donation
amount is around $ 2
million between 2004-
2006 and around $ 9 mil-
lion between 2006-2013.
Union Minister Ravi
Shankar Prasad has
termed the donation as
a bribe and said that
this money was given
by China in lieu of ‘free
trade deal’ between In-
dia and China. At the
same time, Congress is
describing this move of
the central government
inspired by the action
of revenge.

Gehlot comes out with all guns blazing against
BJP treating politics like ‘bakra mandi’
Yogesh Sharma/
Naresh Sharma
Jaipur/New Delhi:
Hours after the Special
Operations Group
(SOG) registered a FIR
inconnectionwithMLA
‘poaching’, the politics
in Rajasthan snow-
balled into a major
storm as on Saturday,
Rajasthan Chief Minis-
ter Ashok Gehlot and a
number of his MLAs ac-
cused the BJP of con-
spiringtotopplethegov-
ernment in the state, a
charge which was de-
nied by the opposition
party that blamed “in-
fighting” within the rul-
ing Congress for the cur-
rent situation.
Meanwhile, on Sat-
urday, the SOG issued
notices to CM Gehlot
and Deputy Chief
Minister Sachin Pilot
to record their state-
ment in connection
with the alleged at-
tempts to topple their
government. A simi-
lar notice has also
been sent to Chief
Whip Mahesh Joshi to
record his statement.
Moreover, the investi-
gating agency also
nabbed two men identi-
fied as Ashok Singh and
Bharat Malani in the
connect. They were sent
on two-day remand after
being presented before a
judge.
The move came after
the SOG on Friday reg-
istered an FIR against
two people, who have
been detained for their
alleged involvement in
horse trading of Con-
gress MLAs for toppling
the Ashok Gehlot gov-
ernment. Sources said
that nearly a dozen
MLAs and others may
also be issued notices
soon.
In the afternoon,
Gehlot held a press
conference and al-
leged that amid the
coronavirus pandem-
ic, BJP leaders have
“gone beyond human-
ity” and are engaged
in toppling his gov-
ernment, however, he
exuded confidence
that the Congress dis-
pensation will com-
plete its five-year
term.
“The government in
Rajasthan is stable, will
remain stable and will
last five years,” Gehlot
said, and alleged that
Leader of Opposition
Gulab Chand Kataria,
Deputy Leader of Oppo-
sition Rajendra Rathore
and BJP state president
Satish Poonia were exe-
cuting the agenda of
their party’s central
leadership. “The BJP
has sabotaged govern-
ments in several states.
It now wants to play the
same game in Ra-
jasthan, that it did in
Madhya Pradesh. But
they have been exposed
and people will give the
BJP a befitting reply at
the right time,” he said.
Praising his govern-
ment’s efforts in com-
bating Corona, Gehlot
said, “we tried to take
them (BJP) in confi-
dence in fight against
Corona, we met them
and they kept on pass-
ing comments on us but
we never took it against
us. We wanted to take
everyone along in this
fight, but they do not get
this. I have seen BJP
leaders, they were not
like this during Vajpay-
ee ji’s time, but from
2014 onwards, they are
full of ego. They are try-
ing to murder the de-
mocracy. They are en-
grossed in buying off
legislators to bring a
government in minori-
ty.”
He said that BJP lead-
ers have “crossed the
limit of shamelessness”
and were doing politics
like “bakra-mandi”
(goat-market).
AICC General Secre-
tary and Rajasthan In-
charge Avinash Pande
also hit out at the saf-
fron party and said,
“We’ve witnessed BJP’s
conspiracies to de-
throne government in
MP, Gujarat and Karna-
taka. Rajasthan Con-
gress MLAs and Inde-
pendents supporting
Congress are being
lured in an attempt to
destabilise a democrati-
cally elected govern-
ment. Morals and ethics
are being distorted to
gain power.”
Even Chief Whip
Mahesh Joshi accused
the Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP) of its al-
leged involvement in
horse-trading of
MLAs and added that
the “investigation
will unearth the
truth. BJP is terrified
due to investigation,
they are involved in
horse-trading as seen in
Maharashtra, Karnata-
ka, Madhya Pradesh
and Gujarat. They tried
in Rajasthan too but
faced the dust. The in-
vestigationwillunearth
the truth,” he said.
Evenastheeventsun-
folded, amid the revived
political drama, move-
mentof CongressMLAs
started at the Chief
Minister’s Residence.
Prior to the Saturday’s
‘upheaval’, on Friday
night, over 20 Congress
MLAs issued a joint
statement alleging that
BJP was trying to topple
the Congress govern-
ment in the state by
“luring” legislators.
They also alleged that
the top leadership of the
saffron party was in-
volved in the “conspira-
cy”, while insisting that
notemptationcanshake
their integrity. Mean-
while, Deputy Chief
Whip Mahendra Chaud-
hary said there is no in-
fightingintheCongress.
“The BJP is behind the
conspiracy of toppling
the state government
and they have been ex-
posed,” he said.
On Saturday however,
the BJP rejected the al-
legations saying what-
ever is going on with
Congress is the result of
infighting between the
Chief Minister and his
deputy.
The party’s state pres-
ident Satish Poonia
said, “The BJP has noth-
ing to do with all these
allegations. During the
Rajya Sabha elections
also, they had levelled
such allegations which
are baseless.The Con-
gress government has
failed to deliver and
could not manage the
COVID-19 crisis proper-
ly. Which is why the
state government is just
trying to divert public
attention.”
The party also hit
out at the Chief Min-
ister over the case reg-
istered by police’s spe-
cial operations group
(SOG) saying he
should utilise agen-
cies like SOG and ACB
for crime control “in-
stead of threatening”
MLAs and political
parties.
“The Chief Minister
did not talk logically in
his press conference. It
is their own infighting
but he wants to blame
BJP. He is a veteran
leader of the Congress
and his pain is justified
because the Congress
has shrunk in the coun-
try,” said BJP’s state
president Satish Poonia.
Meanwhile, Ka-
taria, who is in
Udaipur, challenged
the Chief Minister to
prove the allegations
saying, “If they can
prove this, I will leave
politics.”
Senior BJP leader
and union minister Ga-
jendra Singh Shekha-
wat has come down
heavily on chief minis-
ter Ashok Gehlot re-
garding ongoing politi-
cal developments relat-
ed to alleged attempts of
horse trading during
Rajya Sabha elections.
“Onepersonhaswritten
the script and playing
roles of producer, direc-
tor and actor in this
drama,” he said without
taking name of the CM.
Gehlot had alleged
that the BJP leaders
were murdering democ-
racy by trying to “buy”
MLAs and turning the
state’s politics into a
goat market, bakra-
mandi.
Poonia took a swipe at
Gehlot, saying why had
the Congress kept its
MLAs at a resort before
the Rajya Sabha polls. If
he was so confident,
why he had to confine
the MLAs to a resort for
several days ahead of
Rajya Sabha elections?
he said.
Meanwhile, the Con-
gress also distanced it-
self from three of its
MLAsnamelyKhushvir
Singh, Om Prakash
Hudla and Suresh Tank
after the ACB conducted
a preliminary investiga-
tion against them in the
poaching case and regis-
tered a SIR. The trio
were allegedly luring in
MLAs from the tribal
areas of Rajasthan to ac-
cept the poaching offer.
Moreover, late in
the night Gehlot said
that he has immense
love for Sachin Pilot
and decision of high
command is final for
everyone in Congress.
Interestingly, political
observers claim that
everyone knows the
ground realities.
I challenge the Chief Minister to
prove the allegations. If they
(Congress) can prove this, I will
leave politics.
Gulab Chand Kataria,

DANCE
City First dips and waltzes into the hearts of
its readers with a few tips for rekindling
romance through dance and there is no need
to wait for an occasion; clear the room, dim
the lights, put on some soft music and let
romance flow from one to the other!
ollywood danc-
ing might be all
the rage but
nothing can beat
kindling a ro-
mance with tra-
ditional ball
dancing. To waltz in the
arms of the man who
makes your heart beat
fast is the best aphrodisi-
ac or for that matter, it is
also the ideal way to fall
in love if the chemistry
exists. Toe to toe, head
tilted, your hand on his
shoulder and his on the
waist, twirling to ro-
mantic soft music un-
der a moonlit sky is
undoubtedly the best
way to rekindle the ro-
mance with your loved
one too.
The Waltz is un-
doubtedly one
of the most ro-
mantic ball-
room dance
forms and loved
by almost couples,
irrespective of age.
But for young couples
who wish to learn a
graceful and classic ro-
mantic dance style, the
Waltz is absolutely
perfect. In fact, a lot of
other ballroom dance
styles have been devel-
oped on the basis of
the Waltz. A perfect
couple dance, the Waltz
comprises soft, smooth
and flowing move-
ments and is a delight
to both perform and
watch!
However, if
you are more en-
ergetic you can
opt for the Cha-
Cha-cha, a pop-
ular style that
gets the adrena-
line flowing in
more ways than
one. It requires
the dancers to
use very small
steps and is
known to be
quite a flirta-
tious dance
and is all
about play-
ing around
and teas-
ing your
partner. It includes a lot
of hip and knee move-
ment and looks amazing
when synchronized well
by the partners.
The Foxtrot and Rum-
ba are also very popular,
especially if both part-
ners are good dancers.
Remember, there is no
specific definition of ro-
mance on the dance floor.
Be in sync with your
partner, keep eye
contact, flirt and
enjoy... let the
music take
over, shedding
your inhibi-
tions will
work miracles
for your love
life!

On July 15, when the emotional moon in your
seventh house of partnership forms a harmonizing
trine to taskmaster Saturn, pairing up with a
colleague on a shared project can lead to new
responsibilities. If it’s hard to nail down the facts
about how your significant other or someone else
special in your life is feeling on July 17, just know
that the intuitive moon in your eighth house is
forming a tense square to dreamy Neptune in your
fifth house of romance. It’s tough to gain clarity
around relationship matters right now.
GEMINI
MAY 21 - JUNE 21
If you’ve been waiting for a day when it feels
easier than usual to meet up with loved ones or
friends or even share time one-on-one over a
FaceTime catch-up chat, you can look forward to
July 17 when the emotional moon pairs up with
relationship-oriented Venus in your sign. The
energy is perfect for connecting with your nearest

conjunction to communicator Mercury, your ruling
planet, making it easier for you to pour your
emotions into your work.
SAGITTARIUS
NOV 23 - DEC 22
Look out for a potential cash flow increase,
perhaps shared with your significant other on July
14 when the confident sun in your eighth house of
joint resources opposes your ruling planet, lucky
Jupiter. You’ll do well to give yourself credit for
a job well done. And on July 17, the emotional
moon pairs up with romantic Venus in your
seventh house of partnership, setting the stage for
sweet, joyful interactions with your lover or a dear
friend. Opening up about how you feel—and what
you want—can make for a dreamy, heartfelt time.
CAPRICORN
DEC 23 - JAN 20

about a creative project on July 15 when the
emotional moon in your fifth house of romance
forms a harmonious trine to taskmaster Saturn,
your ruler, in your sign. Then, if you’ve been
feeling like you need to have a tough, emotional
conversation that would take a load off of your
heart, consider initiating it on July 18 when the
emotional moon pairs up with messenger Mercury
in your seventh house of partnership. Explaining
how you’re feeling to your significant other.
LEO
JULY 24 - AUGUST 23
Look out for psychological or work-life balance
wins on July 14 when the confident sun, your
ruler, currently moving through your twelfth house
of spirituality opposes fortunate Jupiter in your
sixth house of daily routine. Then, it’s likely you’ll
get swept up in your daydreams and romantic
fantasies with your significant other on July 19
when the emotional moon forms a harmonizing
trine to mystical Neptune in your seventh house
of partnership. Now’s a sweet time to let those
desires and wishes wash all over you.
AQUARIUS
JAN 21 - FEB 19
Finding time and space to enjoy pleasurable,
fun-loving pastimes with loved ones comes
more naturally than usual on July 17 when the
emotional moon pairs up with relationship-
oriented Venus in your fifth house of romance.
Enjoying intellectually stimulating conversations,

a harmonizing trine to mystical Neptune and you
could be inspired to use your imagination.
VIRGO
AUG 24 - SEP 23
You might be itching to soak up new knowledge
or hit the road and explore a destination outside
of your neighbourhood on July 14 when the
emotional moon and game-changer Uranus pair
up in your ninth house of higher education and
adventure. You usually like to think every step of
a proposed itinerary through before jumping into
action, but this influence can have you throwing
caution to the wind—for your own benefit! You’ll
be able to bring a more emotionally-attuned
approach to an effort or collaboration with friends.
PISCES
FEB20 - MARCH 20
The mood is right to connect with loved ones
in a meaningful, loving, and joyful way on July
17 when the emotional moon pairs up with
relationship-oriented Venus in your fourth house

backyard BBQ or looking at old photo, can prove
heartwarming and connection-bolstering. Getting
swept up in wearing rose-colored glasses could
happen even more organically on July 19 . Take
advantage by expressing what’s in your heart, and
channelling your most imaginative ideas.
CANCER
JUNE 22 - JULY 23
If you’re feeling especially sensitive on July 18,
just know that your ruler, the emotional moon,
is pairing up with communicative Mercury in
your sign, and talking through all your feelings
might be your best bet for not only processing
them but finding that you have more support than
you realize. On July 19, the moon forms a tense
square to go-getter Mars in your tenth house of
career, and you might find you can’t help but
clash with a higher-up. Consider exploring a
way to express your anger in a calm.
