Project proposal title and date:
Into The Forest | A Westy Production. 2/2/23
Main area of activity:
My Project will be a short cinematic film
Rationale:
My progress and projects over the years have mainly involved working in video with a large
percentage of my work being film based. My year one FMP was an amazing steppingstone to find
out where I was technically and organisationally as I really pushed myself to create something
great from a technical standpoint. The video did have flaws, but I understand what they are and
am looking to improve that in this project. My audio project will also help with this project as
recording foley sound will prove to be very important if I have no dialogue. Going into this project I
will be aiming to plan more in depth and organise myself a lot more so I know what days I’m doing
what and what I’m going to film or record.
Project Concept:
My project is going to be a cinematic focused adventure short film using no dialogue meaning an
emphasis on shot structure and foley sound with suspenseful horror aspects as I feel it keeps a
short film exiting and fun to watch. To push myself in this project, I want to work heavily on
integrating colour grading into my work as it makes a lot of more professional videographers’
videos more complete and can convey atmosphere. I will have to research heavily on the best
apps, methods and approaches for colour grading during the research period and in doing so will
hand in hand look at professional videographers and their work to help gain an understanding of
shot types and the narrative I want to try and follow in the limited time and places I must film.
Watching pre-made films also allows for inspiration to be taken on things like costume which all
counts towards valid research for my project. My idea has taken inspiration from film makers and
videographers I have watched on YouTube such as GAWX and JustKay who use similar styles to
the video I envisage making. Combining all these influences and ideas I hope to create my film on
a theme of loneliness which is conveyed through a solo character who goes on a journey to find
himself.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
The evaluation of my project will be done in two major ways. I will do my final review at the end of
my planned production segment to personally look at the positives and negatives of the project
through self-reflection. I will also be keeping weekly logs in the form of a diary to monitor my short-
term progress over the weeks of production.

Week Tasks to be Completed: Specific Tasks
1 Pre-production Influences for context (researching creators and
finding the style of work I wish to try and use)
2 Pre-production Contextualising and finding potential research
methods along with potential plans and
limitations
3 Pre-production Researching existing products finding styles,
techniques and methods I wish to replicate along
with themes and conducting audience research
to better understand my niche
4 Pre-production Research codes and conventions of short film to
ensure my video fits into the medium I wish to
work in and has similar characteristics to pre
existing products
5 Pre-production Problem solving by testing my research methods
to determine whether I like my design choices or
not. Creating contingency plans and looking at
potential issues regarding practical and
theoretical challenges.
6 Pre-production Gathering location information and gaining the
necessary information surrounding the logistics of
creating my project including production
schedules and props/costume
7 Pre-production Visual planning including storyboards and shot
lists to begin creating and drafting the final idea
before shooting.

shots and audio to begin the editing process
9 Production Second week of filming to ensure all required
shots are obtained and to begin postproduction
work including colour grading and assembly
10 Production Postproduction work with heavy emphasis on
