Because democracy is more than just elections
1. The G1000 supplements the current system of government; it’s not an attack on the system.
2. The G1000 supports the idea of representative democracy; that’s why we’re organizing participative
democracy.
3. Elections are the main meals, citizens’ participation events are the healthy snacks in between.
4. It’s not anti-politics but pro-politics.
5. Democracy is also: meeting each other and exchanging viewpoints.
6. Our purpose is to advise not to legislate.

4. Participant selection
1. By telephone: GSK Significant
2. Four selection criteria: gender, language, age, province
3. Additional recruitment (10%) of groups that are harder to reach (unskilled or semi-
skilled sections of the population, underprivileged and vulnerable groups, ethnic
and cultural minorities) through civil society organizations.
4. 1000 people have confirmed that they will participate, but there is no compulsory
attendance

July-Sep Citizens suggest 5,000 topics and rank each other’s proposals: Top 25.
Oct: People can vote online to select the topics of their priority from the Top 25 topics. Result: Top 3
Nov: Top 3 becomes the agenda for the G1000

experts, then they take part in the discussion through their computer. The
results will be mentioned separately in the G1000 report.

9. G1000 : modus vivendi
1. Civil society:
Various members of civil society organizations will be present during (most of) the
day as spectators.
2. Press:
Journalists are welcome to attend (part of) the day on the condition that
they do not disturb the discussions.
Interviews with participants are allowed during coffee breaks and lunches.
Photo, film and audio: no problem.
3. Link to politics:
The presidents of the seven parliaments in Belgium will be
present during the final ceremony (6:30pm-7pm)
