12. THE KNOWLEDGE EXPERIENCE
The fundamental goal of teaching is to foster learning. Learning takes place in many different circumstances and contexts. Although everyone is capable
of learning, a student's desire to learn and excel is a vital pre-condition to effectively mastering new concepts and skills. Humans have multiple learning
styles, some learn best in a lecture atmosphere, some are motivated by discussion while others absorb best when they read and reflect on what they
have read. The classroom setting can encourage or inhibit learning depending on the dominant learning style of each student. Accommodating different
learning styles creates an atmosphere that is conducive to learning. Students take many of their learning habits from the instructor. If the instructor
doesn't show interest in the subject and a passion for learning, students are less likely to put forth the effort to learn in that class.
At GDGWI we create an atmosphere that fosters learning. One of the best ways to foster learning is to demonstrate those feelings to students and
encourage learning by creating a relaxed environment for students, stimulating conversation about concepts being presented and organising material in
a way that makes it easier to understand.
We treat subject matter as interconnected, emphasising that everything students learn should fit together into a holistic
understanding of the world, from which they develop their personal worldview. At GDGWI we help students develop a deep love and respect for
themselves, others and their environment through an open sharing of ideas and a judicious approach to discipline. When the voice of each student is
heard a conducive environment evolves and the students feel free to express themselves. Class meetings are one way to encourage such dialogue.
The faculty at GDGWI utilises a variety of teaching and learning styles. The knowledge content is covered through lectures, tutorials, workshops,
practical work & problem solving exercises, case studies, business games, simulations, business report writing, groups and individual presentations.
Students also have an opportunity to work in smaller groups.

18. SUMMER SCHOOL AT LANCASTER SUMMER SCHOOL AT GDGWI
With the growing success of the Lancaster Award that encourages students,
Lancaster University launched a new Lancaster Summer Award for Lancaster
students based at the GD Goenka World Institute campus in India.
The Lancaster Summer Award was organised as a two-week Summer School on
the Lancaster University Campus. It focuses on personal development planning,
reflection skills, cultural awareness building and learning about the history of the

director Dr Paul Devadoss

Lancaster University underlines the importance of this initiative, recognizing that it is essential and highly beneficial for students at overseas campuses to work closely with their development planning techniques. The programme was designed by the three

KPMG and PWC – and also with students from a high school, using the opportunity to learn more about the English culture.
A Goenka student reported on the highly rewarding experience: “The Summer School was a novel experience. It provided everything I lacked in terms of personal development at
this stage of my career, such as presentation skills, portraying the best you have, a sense of social responsibility and also the feeling of being prepared for what the future is
expected to hold. Coming into a new cultural environment with people from all walks of life and from all parts of the world seemed challenging. I had doubts whether I would be
able to actually learn anything from this experience at the individual level. Interaction with great faculty was a delight as I experienced mentoring and refinement through being
here. As I now evaluate the experience, I can feel a lot more confident and aware of myself, which I consider as a great achievement.”

An Entrepreneurial Cell (E-Cell) is a staff- student body with an aim of promoting Entrepreneurial Education and Skills among students. NEN works
closely with the GDGWI students and helps in running of the cell.
CSR Society:
The CSR Society was formulated to promote corporate social responsibility. The society addresses hybrid issues including undertaking of
independent initiatives that reflect economic, environmental and social needs.
Several other Clubs exist like the Sports Club and Adventura Club for the outside enthusiast, the Young Manager's Club for the Undergraduate
students and the Special Interest Clubs ( Photography, Dance and Theater) which hone the students artistic and creative side.
