Editor's Notes
What is healthy Ageing? Healthy Ageing includes all activities that help to combat the negative impact of the physical, psychological and social ageing process. Healthy Ageing is starting already during childhood (in fact before birth) and requires an integrated lifelong approach. The research is focused on finding the causes of health problems and frailty or impairment. In fact already before birth is determined the age you can reach, but you have to struggle your whole life to reach it. What we want to reach is improvement of the quality of live for ageing people and to minimize the social burden on healthcare. We are searching for effective prevention. This calls for new, clever solutions, which we probably have already - partly – in the Northern Netherlands. We have the knowledge and experience – as well as the necessity (the sense of urgency as we call it) – to be a front runner in innovation and research in the field of healthy ageing. Northern Netherlands is well equipped to tackle the issue of healthy ageing.
