Gabe Ochoa“Nothing stops a bullet like a job”
Mission “Homeboy Industries assists at-risk and formerly gang-involved youth to become positive and contributing members of society through job placement, training and education.” Theseservices enable young people to redirect their lives and provide them with hope for their futures. The services are open to the community of those who are striving to move beyond gang life whether or not he or she is employed at Homeboy.
Community Need In the inner city streets of LA there is a ever present growing gang problem, Homeboy Industries was created out of the desperate need of those who were affiliated to get help, get out, and stay out of that life style. Father Gregory Boyle created this organization to help the seemingly helpless and open up jobs for those who need them in order to sustain themselves and their families.
Services On top of HomeBoy Bakery and HomeGirl Café (AssociatedEateries) they provide many different services such as; Employment Options, Education, Legal Services, Mental Health Counseling, Community Services, 12 Step Meetings, Tattoo Removal, and Case Management.
Inputs Teachers, instructors, doctors, remedial staff, and whomever else is needed to perform the services given to the individuals in the program. Financial and community support in order to fuel substantive change to those in need.
Processes HomeBoy Industries will continue to achieve goals that will not only help the individuals involved but also maintain a stable safe haven within the communities of struggle. We will grow in our efforts of outreach by opening more centers of recreation and employment. We will expand our efforts in the various areas of services.
Outcomes At Homeboy Industries there is a major desire to help thosewho are employed through their services to make good purposeful judgments in order to increase positive outcomes in their future.
Outcomes The program allows for the people involved to create distinct substantial change within their lives by erecting a scaffolding of difference in order to achieve massive breakthroughs that will redirect the course of their lives.
Outputs The longer HomeBoy exists the more breadth the impact encloses. With the security and assistance, in keeping those who were once influenced by gang activity as well as those who still do off of the streets, that our organization ensures we are able to give those willing to gain another chance the ability to make decisions that they’ve never be able to before and therefore cleaning up the streets of brutality and addiction.
Outputs With an outlet that helps take in lost souls by the truck load each day it is not hard to understand that the illegal activities in the targeted areas have gone down. With the availability of doing something constructive has molded a brand new work ethic amongst a generation glanced upon as lost.
Reach Out In order for HomeBoy Industries to stay afloat and operation during these rough financial times. To be able to keep the system in motion we need all the help we can get so that the jobs can stay secured. We’re asking this of the Just Think Foundation because we understand the conviction to help those in order for them to sustain a healthy, responsible, independent life. In working together we can find a way to enhance the lives of those who have been un-willfully influenced by the uncontrollable factors of their surroundings by solidifying this place of peace and prosperity.
Influence HomeBoy is more then a economic resource it’s a house of change. A place where one can take their life in to their own hands and point it in the right direction by coming to a self realization. To get away from the rote circumstances and plot their own course This program is the basis to critically think ahead and understand the precious life to come.
Influence : Critically Thinking As the time passes and opportunities are lost it is much clearer to understand that life is made up of choices. Choices are constructed first through our thinking. If you are being influenced in one direction, one heavily reinforced through social institutions and location, and these influences are not productive then you will be led astray. You will not own your own thinking. The first steps of critical thinking are to think freely so that it is your responsibility ideas coming to play that will dictate where you go in life. As this program reaches those very impressionable minds in the community the clarity of choice becomes obvious hopefully before it is already too late, but too late is the very object we set out to erase.
Influence : Critical Action As choices lead up to actions it becomes abundantly clear that through good and purposeful thought comes positive and constructive outcomes. Actions speak louder then words and within our program we are here to show the world that we can retake our lives through the positive actions reinforced by well constructed thought.
Closing Seeing as though a good potion of my family is ion need of outreach and positive influence as well as many of the people who I would call friends and acquaintances I find that HomeBoy Industries is out to change the world and their doing it one Home boy/girl at a time.
