The document discusses a cabling project for the UPS headquarters in Dublin involving around 100,000 meters of Cat6a cable and 2,000 meters of OM3 fiber optic cable run through false floors between two large comm rooms. It was the first project using Draka's BendBright fiber cable, which performed well under stress of bends. The installation went smoothly and tested successfully, with the contractor pleased with the fiber cable's performance in a challenging route. Precision Cables supplied the cable and ancillary products for the project as Ireland's leading Draka distributor.

Precision Cables provides perfect products for UPS HQ
The retrofit involved two floors of an office building which needed to
accommodate workspaces for around 400 staff. It was an intensive cabling project
requiring some 100,000m Cat6a F/FTP design cable together with 2,000m OM3 fibre optic cable.
The communications system is centred in two large comms rooms with the majority of the resulting
cabling being run under a false floor. Between the comms rooms 24core OM3 BendBright cabling was used.
This was the first project on which the BendBright fibre product has been used by
the contractor, who was keen to test how the cable performs when subject to significant bends in the
cable channels. In this instance the fibre links were all terminated with LC Duplex Patch Panels.
The installation progressed smoothly and tested 100% first time. Stephen Johnston of Network
2000 was pleased to deliver a successfully completed project and particularly satisfied with the
new cable: “We wanted to try the BendBright fibre to see what it could do. Although this project
presented few technical challenges we can see that the product will be excellent for installations where
the cable route is more complicated and we need the cable to perform under the stress of severe bends.”
UC Connect
UC Connect was the product of choice for the 2000
data-point Cat 6a data communications installation in
the headquarters building for shipping and logistics giant
UPS in Dublin.
Network 2000 was the contractor appointed to install the
cable system in the newly stripped-out building, with the
cable and ancillary products being supplied by Ireland’s
leading Draka distributor Precision Cables.
Although ultimately the project was a
relativelystandard installation, the specification of the
cable was changed several times and the consultant
relied on technical support from Draka to ensure the right
cable design was delivered within a tight time frame.

Geoff Byrne of Precision Cables, a rapidly growing cable supplier to the Irish construction market paid
tribute to the team involved. “Projects only go smoothly when everyone works well together” he observed.
“The technical input from the manufacturer can make all the difference in ensuring the system is designed
correctly, making the installer’s job much easier. We can always rely on Draka to provide this level of support,
which is much appreciated by our installation customers.”
UC Connect product manager at Draka, Lee Stokes said that after witnessing the testing of the UC Connect
system in Dublin that he is full of praise toward Network 2000 and its proficient application of the system.
