1. Evaluation Question 5
Primary Research
Before creating my magazine I researched my primary audience, I researched about things the audience would show an interest in, as
then I would know what to include within my magazine to attract the audience. I also looked at magazines such as top of the pops and
Girl Talk to see what they do to attract their audiences. For example, top of the pops uses a pink, blue and yellow colour theme in most
of their magazine issues therefore I thought that this colour scheme must be successful. This is why I decided to take this idea,
because the colour scheme can suit male and female audiences, ensuring that I am therefore maximizing my audience to the
magazine.
Furthermore another key convention I found from both of the magazines was to include a lot of images on the front cover, this is
because it attracts the audience rather that boring then with lots of text, and the audience may feel as if it will be a boring magazine if
it’s full of text with not enough images.
Mise en scene
I made a 'Pintrest' account to help me research things within my chosen genre. This allowed me to browse through a lot of photographs
and storing them on my own board. This meant that after researching all of the fashion and make up which people that like pop music
would want to wear, I could get ideas of the fashion and makeup to include within my magazine. Also advertising the products that are
in the magazine to ensure to the audience that if they like what they see that they can buy it from somewhere.
Reader Profile
Another thing I looked at was reader profiles for my target audience, this helped to create an idea of what they would generally like to
be in my magazine. The first thing that I realised that females read more of the pop genre than males, this means that I would include
stereotypical female interests in the magazine such as, makeup, gossip and fashion, this could be through the use of an advertisement
within the magazine. I have also used a woman on the front cover of the magazine, this is in order to attract the audience as their
favourite solo artist or group might be on the front cover making them want to buy the magazine.
My primary audience is 13-18 year old, this means I have to vary what I put into the magazine as I have to put thing that suit and would
attract a young teen at the age of 13, yet I need to attract young adults so need to put things in that would suit a 18 year old. My
secondary audience being males can help me include things which they might want to read about or can help them buy gifts, for any
females they know, for example their girlfriend or their sister.
How did you attract/appeal to your audience?
