Civility is about respect and generos-
ity in relation with other people.
Due to its relative nature, people of
different cultures may have different
perspective about what is or what is
not civil. Thus, cross-cultural conflicts
often happen.

conduct respectful actions for
other people and be civil?

Civil Door
The design of The Civil Door
applies the idea of opening
a door for others, a simple
friendly gesture regardless
of cultural differences.
6. Location
Airport’s Immigration Hall
Airport is a place from one country to another one, the meaning of
civil door in the airport immigration hall is let people encounter the
experience to help each other open the door, showing respect.
7. Interaction
How people interact with it and each other?
The purpose of Civil door is to enhance human & human interaction,
let people who leave the country open the door for people who ar-
rive, or on the contary. Once they pull their own door, the next door
will open first, the installation will help to teach people be civil and
respect for others. and the each group of door were designed to be
more interactive, for instance, with the lower transparent door, they
may have some civil facial engagement, or just give each other a
smile, or hands shake.
8. How people open door for each other?
1. Two people arrive the doors 2. One of them pull his door, the other door will open first.
