  16. Company presentation The classical technology known as "completely stirred process” or CSTR:  Digestion in a single tank organic material mixed with a fixed proportion of manure required for the proper functioning of the plant  Allows a maximum loads of 3 kg of organic matter / m³ / day  It works, but request manure and/or equivalent  Risk of acidosis that stop the whole system for months  Quite high operating costs  Technology extremely sensible towards substrate changes Avenue Jean Monnet 1, B-1348 Louvain-La-Neuve / www.greenwatt.be / tel : +32 (0)10 77 91 00 fax :+32 (0)2 791 57 66 / info@greenwatt.be
  17. Company presentation The GreenWatt technology combines : Which technology ? 1. Multi-stage technology: the liquefaction of solid waste (acid stage), the methanogenesis (pH neutral stage) and the post-digestion take place in separate dedicated digesters, which provides robustness, reliability, flexibility of use and optimum efficiency. 2. The HYFAD (High Yield Flushing Anaerobic Digestor): Unique high yield fixed bed methane digester design, integrating an automatized anti clogging system and biofilm renewal. 180m² /m³ of digester: 40 m3 = surface of 2 football pitches enable >30 kg COD conversion/m³.day Methanogenesis H H Cogeneration Biogas Y Y Liquéfaction Gas Grid F F Post-digester acidogenesis A A D D Storage Digestate Avenue Jean Monnet 1, B-1348 Louvain-La-Neuve / www.greenwatt.be / tel : +32 (0)10 77 91 00 fax :+32 (0)2 791 57 66 / info@greenwatt.be
  18. Company presentation Stage 1 Liquefaction: Transformation of by-products through the action of bacteria into a liquid rich in fatty acids: “acidic liquor”. Liquefaction requires a volume related to the type of input Stage 2 Methanization HYFAD: Production of methane gas by the action of methanogenic bacteria, by transforming the free fatty acids of the liquor coming from the liquefaction tank. Optimal physico-chemical parameters are pH neutral & temperature around 38°C Stage 3 post-digestion & gas storage : Post-digestion and Biogas storage Avenue Jean Monnet 1, B-1348 Louvain-La-Neuve / www.greenwatt.be / tel : +32 (0)10 77 91 00 fax :+32 (0)2 791 57 66 / info@greenwatt.be
  19. Company presentation The HYFAD is based on two tanks assembled on a metal structure before being installed on a concrete slab (Figure 1). The two tanks contain a kind of honeycomb on which the biofilm growth (Figure 2). The two tanks are connected with a set of valves that allows reaching high speeds of the liquid and proceed to the rinse of excess bacteria, therefore solving the problem of clogging (Figure 3). The system recreates, artificially and with low power consumption, the phenomenon of waves cleaning the coast and developing an optimal thickness of the bio-film The advantages of HYFAD are key : 1. Fully automated with low energy consumption 2. No risk of clogging the fixed bed digester 3. Optimal regulation of biofilm thickness and its exchange capacity that guaranty high yield and an extreme compacity Avenue Jean Monnet 1, B-1348 Louvain-La-Neuve / www.greenwatt.be / tel : +32 (0)10 77 91 00 fax :+32 (0)2 791 57 66 / info@greenwatt.be
  20. Company presentation Key advantages of the multistage technology: 1. Possibility of treating organic substrates, without the use of livestock manure, allowing for use in food industry sites 2.Sturdy self-regulating process that can cope with large variations in the quantity and quality of substrate input without acidification of the digester. 3. Ergonomic and compact plant with reduced running costs. Can be decentralized and placed easily on the waste production with short cycle not requesting any transport 4. Optimal regulation of the pH of methanogenesis reducing the duration of the process and allowing for a quicker start-up time should the process be interrupted. 5. The HYFAD methanogenesis fixed bed digester renews the biofilm avoiding all clogging problems, and guaranteeing optimal efficiency. 6. Improved biogas production yield through the optimisation of each stage of the bioconversion process. 7. Flexibility of use, ability to adjust the gas production depending on the supply constrains (availability of source materials) and the energy requirements. 8. Optimal digestate quality – 100% traceable origins. used or sell as a high quality fertilizer Avenue Jean Monnet 1, B-1348 Louvain-La-Neuve / www.greenwatt.be / tel : +32 (0)10 77 91 00 fax :+32 (0)2 791 57 66 / info@greenwatt.be
  21. Company presentation For the treatment of sewage - liquid effluent with COD levels min 5.000mg/l, HYFAD technology or UASB 1. Smaller size of the plant and low operating cost allowing to be placed easily on the waste production site 2. HYFAD technology, allow optimal regulation of biofilm thickness and its exchange capacity, that guaranty high yield with no risk of clogging the fixed bed digester 3. Reduced time of the methanization process and faster recovery in case of an emergency stop 4. Flexibility of use; it is possible to regulate gas production according to the client specific needs Avenue Jean Monnet 1, B-1348 Louvain-La-Neuve / www.greenwatt.be / tel : +32 (0)10 77 91 00 fax :+32 (0)2 791 57 66 / info@greenwatt.be
