Nick Woodman caught the surfing bug in
his senior year of high school, dropping
team sports to focus on catching waves. He
formed his school’s first surf club before

in 2001, Woodman took a five-month surf
trip to Australia and Indonesia. It was

What do these guys do?

On 15th December, 2015 Twitter launched its new
X feature in the UK, bringing a new way to follow
live news events on the social network. The UK is
the third country to get X. Speaking at Twitter's
London office, X’s UK lead Joanna Geary said:
"It's not just about stars, celebrities. It's also about
eyewitnesses, people on the street, great one-
liners, the conversations people are having, the
whole diversity of the story on Twitter.“

X is an essay written by Henry David Thoreau. Between 1851 and 1860 Thoreau
read the piece a total of ten times, more than any other of his lectures. He
considered it one of his seminal works, so much so, that he once wrote of the
lecture, "I regard this as a sort of introduction to all that I may write hereafter."
“If you are ready to leave father and mother, and brother and sister, and wife and child
and friends, and never see them again – if you have paid your debts, and made your

A certain Christopher Latham Sholes, born in 1819 in Pennsylvania, moved to
Milwaukee when he was about 18 to become the editor of a local newspaper.
Post a strike by workers at his printing press he started working on building a
machine. A complete failure meant that he had to abandon the idea. However
some time later he was joined by a fellow printer named Samuel Soule to work
on a similar machine. A year later, Carlos Glidden, a lawyer and an amateur
inventor, joined the duo in the hope of altering the machine for wider
applicability.
The Scientific American article had figuratively used the phrase "literary piano";
for the first model that the trio built. The black and white parts of the ‘piano’
were made of ivory and ebony and the rest of the framework was wooden. They
were granted the patent for their invention in 1868.

According to Bank of Canada it’s not illegal to do this but:

What are they refereeing to?

A 1936 Schiaparelli perfume called X came in a bottle sculpted by artist
Leonor Fini in the shape of a Mae West's torso and Dali's paintings of flower-
sellers. The packaging, also designed by Fini was in one of Schiaparelli's
signature colors.

The text above is from an internal memo about the person X working in a
company Y. Contrary to popular belief, it was not the meaning of X’s writing that
the company Y was critical of its employee but because of his actual voice. X went
on to name an important ‘idea’ in his book after a place he frequented in Y’s office.

What am I referring to?

In the late 19th century, the human large intestine was seen as a noxious
reservoir of toxins, some of which resulted from bacteria breaking down food,
the so-called “putrefaction” process. Medics hypothesized that the large
intestine was a visceral leftover from the time when our ancestors had to run
from predators and often didn’t have time to stop long enough to empty their
bowels.
However a Russian scientist Metchnikoff believed otherwise. From general
observation of a common household process X and his studies of European

The person in question was so impressed by the delivery that he
wrote a short- `Spedegue's Dropper' - about an asthmatic
schoolteacher who used such a delivery to win the Ashes for
England.
Who?

Jochen Rindt was an Austrian F1 driver.
Orphaned as an infant when his parents were
killed by Allied bombing raids in 1943, a year
after his birth in Mainz, Rindt was raised by his
grandparents in Graz, Austria. His idol in the
sport was the German Count Wolfgang Von
Trips. Von Trips’ would have won the 1961
Driver’s Championship had it not been for his
accident in the Monza Grand Prix. 14 spectators
too died in the accident.
Ironically Rindt too died in a crash just yards
away from where Von Trips had died years
earlier. The disaster struck during the practice
session for the Monza Grand Prix.
While Von Trips’ points tally was beaten by Phil
Hill in 1961, who beat Rindt’s tally in the 1970

It was in the 1930s that the company got the idea of
a ‘cellophane wedding’. Initially there was a trial run
with the ‘bride’ and the ‘groom’ wearing outfits that
were only half cellophane. However in 1938, when
the actual wedding did take place, the outfits were
complete cellophane. The story goes that the
picture of this event subsequently ran in the Life
magazine, by which means it came to the attention
of Hitler, who used it as an opportunity to criticize
America’s moral decline.

For many years Irena Sendler was living a modest existence in her Poland
apartment. She passed away on Monday May 12th, 2008.
Her achievement went largely unnoticed for many years. Then the story was
uncovered by four young students at Uniontown High School, in Kansas, who were
the winners of the 2000 Kansas state National History Day competition by writing a
play Life in a Jar about the heroic actions of Irena Sendler. The girls - Elizabeth
Cambers, Megan Stewart, Sabrina Coons and Janice Underwood - have since gained
international recognition, along with their teacher, Norman Conard.
She was reportedly nominated for the 2007 Nobel Prize but after the award went to
Al Gore and IPCC , International Federation of Social Workers released a
statement saying
“IFSW is deeply saddened that the life work of Nobel nominee Irena Sendler,
social worker, did not receive formal recognition.”

Peter Ganine (October 11, 1900 – August
11, 1974) was a Russian-American sculptor
best known for his work in ceramics and

Lucky Luciano
Luciano is considered the father of
modern organized crime in the United
States for splitting New York City into
five different Mafia crime families and
the establishment of the first
Commission. He was the first official
boss of the modern Genovese crime
family. He was, along with his associate
Meyer Lansky, instrumental in the
development of the National Crime
Syndicate in the United States. Luciano
is considered by many to have been the
most powerful American Mafia boss of
all time.

Bradford Edwards living in Vietnam is obsessed with collecting these. he
