Chris’s inspiration to start X came
from a similar concept in Rio de
Janeiro which was started by a
Marcelo Armstrong and has since
been imitated multiple times.

“I do not wish to comment on the work; if it does not speak for itself, it is a
failure. But I should like to emphasize two points: first, that although the
various episodes are taken from the actual history of the Russian
Revolution, they are dealt with schematically and their chronological order
is changed; this was necessary for the symmetry of the story. The second
point has been missed by most critics, possibly because I did not emphasize
it sufficiently. A number of readers may finish the book with the impression
that it ends in the complete reconciliation of the _____and the humans.
That was not my intention; on the contrary I meant it to end on a loud note
of discord, for I wrote it immediately after the Teheran Conference which
everybody thought had established the best possible relations between the
USSR and the West. I personally did not believe that such good relations
would last long; and, as events have shown, I wasn't far wrong.”

Designed by the Aircraft Division of the Dunlop Rubber Company the
Maxaret was first developed for fighter planes. The need for such a product
arose during WWII when aircraft faced difficulty while landing on aircraft

another first to its credit, having the first all wheel drive. Both these led the
Sports Illustrated to call the FF, “safest car in the world”.

Nick Woodman caught the surfing bug in
his senior year of high school, dropping
team sports to focus on catching waves. He
formed his school’s first surf club before
graduating in 1993 and heading off to the
University of California, San Diego.
After failing with dot-com company Funbug
in 2001, Woodman took a five-month surf
trip to Australia and Indonesia. It was
during this trip that he found the inspiration
for his next startup.
His initial idea was to sell wrist straps to
tether already existing devices. But soon he
realized he had to combine them all in one
package. Id.

On 15th December, 2015 Twitter launched its new
X feature in the UK, bringing a new way to follow
live news events on the social network. The UK is
the third country to get X. Speaking at Twitter's
London office, X’s UK lead Joanna Geary said:
"It's not just about stars, celebrities. It's also about
eyewitnesses, people on the street, great one-

X is an essay written by Henry David Thoreau. Between 1851 and 1860 Thoreau
read the piece a total of ten times, more than any other of his lectures. He
considered it one of his seminal works, so much so, that he once wrote of the
lecture, "I regard this as a sort of introduction to all that I may write hereafter."
“If you are ready to leave father and mother, and brother and sister, and wife and child
and friends, and never see them again – if you have paid your debts, and made your
will, and settled all your affairs, and are a free man – then you are ready for a X... No
wealth can buy the requisite leisure, freedom, and independence which are the capital
in this profession... It requires a direct dispensation from Heaven to become a X.

A certain Christopher Latham Sholes, born in 1819 in Pennsylvania, moved to
Milwaukee when he was about 18 to become the editor of a local newspaper.
Post a strike by workers at his printing press he started working on building a
machine. A complete failure meant that he had to abandon the idea. However
some time later he was joined by a fellow printer named Samuel Soule to work
on a similar machine. A year later, Carlos Glidden, a lawyer and an amateur
inventor, joined the duo in the hope of altering the machine for wider
applicability.
The Scientific American article had figuratively used the phrase "literary piano";

According to Bank of Canada it’s not illegal to do this but:
“...However, there are important reasons why it should not be done. Writing on
a bank note may interfere with the security features and reduces its lifespan.
Markings on a note may also prevent it from being accepted in a transaction.

“I listened rather carefully to one of X’s English talks in the Eastern Service on, I think, Saturday
last. I found the talk itself interesting, and I am not critical of its content, but I was struck by the
basic unsuitability of X’s voice. I realise, of course, that his name is of some value in quite
important Indian circles, but his voice struck me as both un-attractive and really unsuited to the
microphone to such an extent that (a) it would not attract any listeners who were outside the circle
of X’s admirers as a writer and might even repel some of these, and (b) would make the talks
themselves vulnerable at the hands of people who would have reason to see X denied the
microphone, or of those who felt critical of the Y for being so ignorant of the essential needs of the
microphone and of the audience as to put on so wholly unsuitable a voice.
I am quite seriously worried about the situation and about the wisdom of our keeping X personally
on the air.”
The text above is from an internal memo about the person X working in a
company Y. Contrary to popular belief, it was not the meaning of X’s writing that
the company Y was critical of its employee but because of his actual voice. X went
on to name an important ‘idea’ in his book after a place he frequented in Y’s office.

“The human form has no straight lines; it is biomorphic. We designed the X to be,
above all, biomorphic, or curvilinear, as a metaphor of human form in the visual as
well as the tactile sense. There is not one straight line to be found on X.”
“The Pellicle was equally a deliberate design strategy in that its transparency
symbolizes the free flow of air to the skin in the same way lace, window screens,
and other permeable membranes permit the flow of air or light or moisture.”
Launched in 1994, at a cost of more than $1,000 at the time, it quickly became a
status symbol in Silicon Valley—spotted constantly in magazines and in cameos on
TV and film. Then, as the dot-coms failed, their sales declined. As one information
architect told New York magazine years later, he remembered them "piled up in a
corner as a kind of corporate graveyard." He went on: “They’re not in my mind an

In the late 19th century, the human large intestine was seen as a noxious
reservoir of toxins, some of which resulted from bacteria breaking down food,
the so-called “putrefaction” process. Medics hypothesized that the large
intestine was a visceral leftover from the time when our ancestors had to run
from predators and often didn’t have time to stop long enough to empty their
bowels.
However a Russian scientist Metchnikoff believed otherwise. From general
observation of a common household process X and his studies of European
centenarians he concluded that Y could be used to cure intestinal disorders.
Unfortunately, Metchnikoff didn’t get to see the world benefiting from his
insights.
In 20th century however, Metchnikoff’s ideas took hold. In Europe, doctors
prescribed Y to treat intestinal maladies. Then in the 1910s, Isaac Carasso, a
Balkan industrialist, learned that many children suffered from intestinal
disorders. In 1919, inspired by Metchnikoff’s work, he started a company Z in
Barcelona, Spain, and marketed his product as medicine, sold in pharmacies.

“I have only once felt smaller, and that was when I was bowled by
A. P. Lucas, by the most singular ball that I have ever received.
He propelled it like a quoit into the air to a height of at least thirty
feet, and it fell straight and true on to the top of the bails. I have
often wondered what a good batsman would have made of that
ball. To play it one would have needed to turn the blade of the
bat straight up, and could hardly fail to give a chance. I tried to
cut it off my stumps, with the result that I knocked down my
wicket and broke my bat, while the ball fell in the midst of this
general chaos. I spent the rest of the day wondering gloomily
what I ought to have done—and I am wondering yet.”

A X is a raised platform on which one stands to make an impromptu speech,
often about a political subject. The term originates from the days when
speakers would elevate themselves by standing on a wooden crate originally
used for shipment of ____ or other goods from a manufacturer to a retail
store. Discarded containers of every size, well-constructed and sturdy, were
readily available in most towns. These “X" made free and easily portable
temporary platforms for street corner speakers attempting to be seen and
heard at improvised "outdoor meetings," to which passersby would gather to
hear often provocative speeches on religious or political themes.
The term is also used metaphorically to describe a person engaging in often
flamboyant impromptu or unofficial public speaking, as in the phrases "He's

  • 3. Chris’s inspiration to start X came from a similar concept in Rio de Janeiro which was started by a Marcelo Armstrong and has since been imitated multiple times. According to their website, 80% of the their post-tax profits go directly to their sister NGO. They initially started in a ‘famous’ area in Dharawi and have since expanded to Delhi as well. • 6. “I do not wish to comment on the work; if it does not speak for itself, it is a failure. But I should like to emphasize two points: first, that although the various episodes are taken from the actual history of the Russian Revolution, they are dealt with schematically and their chronological order is changed; this was necessary for the symmetry of the story. The second point has been missed by most critics, possibly because I did not emphasize it sufficiently. A number of readers may finish the book with the impression that it ends in the complete reconciliation of the _____and the humans. That was not my intention; on the contrary I meant it to end on a loud note of discord, for I wrote it immediately after the Teheran Conference which everybody thought had established the best possible relations between the USSR and the West. I personally did not believe that such good relations would last long; and, as events have shown, I wasn't far wrong.” Who about what?
  • 9. Designed by the Aircraft Division of the Dunlop Rubber Company the Maxaret was first developed for fighter planes. The need for such a product arose during WWII when aircraft faced difficulty while landing on aircraft carriers. The Jensen Interceptor FF was the first car to feature the Maxaret. It had another first to its credit, having the first all wheel drive. Both these led the Sports Illustrated to call the FF, “safest car in the world”. What was the Maxaret a precursor to?

  • 15. Nick Woodman caught the surfing bug in his senior year of high school, dropping team sports to focus on catching waves. He formed his school’s first surf club before graduating in 1993 and heading off to the University of California, San Diego. After failing with dot-com company Funbug in 2001, Woodman took a five-month surf trip to Australia and Indonesia. It was during this trip that he found the inspiration for his next startup. His initial idea was to sell wrist straps to tether already existing devices. But soon he realized he had to combine them all in one package. Id.

  • 21. On 15th December, 2015 Twitter launched its new X feature in the UK, bringing a new way to follow live news events on the social network. The UK is the third country to get X. Speaking at Twitter's London office, X’s UK lead Joanna Geary said: "It's not just about stars, celebrities. It's also about eyewitnesses, people on the street, great one- liners, the conversations people are having, the whole diversity of the story on Twitter.“

  • 24. X is an essay written by Henry David Thoreau. Between 1851 and 1860 Thoreau read the piece a total of ten times, more than any other of his lectures. He considered it one of his seminal works, so much so, that he once wrote of the lecture, "I regard this as a sort of introduction to all that I may write hereafter." “If you are ready to leave father and mother, and brother and sister, and wife and child and friends, and never see them again – if you have paid your debts, and made your will, and settled all your affairs, and are a free man – then you are ready for a X... No wealth can buy the requisite leisure, freedom, and independence which are the capital in this profession... It requires a direct dispensation from Heaven to become a X. Id X.

  • 27. A certain Christopher Latham Sholes, born in 1819 in Pennsylvania, moved to Milwaukee when he was about 18 to become the editor of a local newspaper. Post a strike by workers at his printing press he started working on building a machine. A complete failure meant that he had to abandon the idea. However some time later he was joined by a fellow printer named Samuel Soule to work on a similar machine. A year later, Carlos Glidden, a lawyer and an amateur inventor, joined the duo in the hope of altering the machine for wider applicability. I found the talk itself interesting, and I am not critical of its content, but I was struck by the basic unsuitability of X’s voice. I realise, of course, that his name is of some value in quite important Indian circles, but his voice struck me as both un-attractive and really unsuited to the microphone to such an extent that (a) it would not attract any listeners who were outside the circle of X’s admirers as a writer and might even repel some of these, and (b) would make the talks themselves vulnerable at the hands of people who would have reason to see X denied the microphone, or of those who felt critical of the Y for being so ignorant of the essential needs of the microphone and of the audience as to put on so wholly unsuitable a voice. I am quite seriously worried about the situation and about the wisdom of our keeping X personally on the air.” The text above is from an internal memo about the person X working in a company Y. Contrary to popular belief, it was not the meaning of X’s writing that the company Y was critical of its employee but because of his actual voice. X went on to name an important ‘idea’ in his book after a place he frequented in Y’s office. Id X, Y & ‘the place’

We designed the X to be, above all, biomorphic, or curvilinear, as a metaphor of human form in the visual as well as the tactile sense. There is not one straight line to be found on X.” “The Pellicle was equally a deliberate design strategy in that its transparency symbolizes the free flow of air to the skin in the same way lace, window screens, and other permeable membranes permit the flow of air or light or moisture.” Launched in 1994, at a cost of more than $1,000 at the time, it quickly became a status symbol in Silicon Valley—spotted constantly in magazines and in cameos on TV and film. Then, as the dot-coms failed, their sales declined. As one information architect told New York magazine years later, he remembered them "piled up in a corner as a kind of corporate graveyard." He went on: “They’re not in my mind an example of hubris as much as they are an example of companies trying to treat their staff more generously than they could actually afford.” What am I referring to?

Medics hypothesized that the large intestine was a visceral leftover from the time when our ancestors had to run from predators and often didn’t have time to stop long enough to empty their bowels. However a Russian scientist Metchnikoff believed otherwise. From general observation of a common household process X and his studies of European centenarians he concluded that Y could be used to cure intestinal disorders. Unfortunately, Metchnikoff didn’t get to see the world benefiting from his insights. In 20th century however, Metchnikoff’s ideas took hold. In Europe, doctors prescribed Y to treat intestinal maladies. Then in the 1910s, Isaac Carasso, a Balkan industrialist, learned that many children suffered from intestinal disorders. In 1919, inspired by Metchnikoff’s work, he started a company Z in Barcelona, Spain, and marketed his product as medicine, sold in pharmacies.

He propelled it like a quoit into the air to a height of at least thirty feet, and it fell straight and true on to the top of the bails. I have often wondered what a good batsman would have made of that ball. To play it one would have needed to turn the blade of the bat straight up, and could hardly fail to give a chance. I tried to cut it off my stumps, with the result that I knocked down my wicket and broke my bat, while the ball fell in the midst of this general chaos. I spent the rest of the day wondering gloomily what I ought to have done—and I am wondering yet.” -The Strand Magazine, Volume 38 Number 225 (September 1909), pp. 270-281 The person in question was so impressed by the delivery that he wrote a short- `Spedegue's Dropper' - about an asthmatic schoolteacher who used such a delivery to win the Ashes for England. The term originates from the days when speakers would elevate themselves by standing on a wooden crate originally used for shipment of ____ or other goods from a manufacturer to a retail store. Discarded containers of every size, well-constructed and sturdy, were readily available in most towns. These “X" made free and easily portable temporary platforms for street corner speakers attempting to be seen and heard at improvised "outdoor meetings," to which passersby would gather to hear often provocative speeches on religious or political themes. The term is also used metaphorically to describe a person engaging in often flamboyant impromptu or unofficial public speaking, as in the phrases "He's on his X ", or "Get off your X."
