brings the Boulevard du Temple.
It becomes ”The Boulevard of Crime".
18. Le Place de la Republique is an urban creation of the nineteenth century.
Over the decades, it has built a strong symbolic value. However, traffic has
become paramount at the expense of urban quality and a diversity of uses.
In 2008 Paris City Hall launched an ambitious project for its
redevelopment, around three objectives:
1. To reaffirm the republican symbol and enhance the historical heritage
2. To integrate the new mobility and create a better sharing of the public
space
3. To enhance the usability of the site and create a gathering place
Developed in consultation with local residents, users, traders and, more
broadly, the citizens of Paris, the project aims to restore Parisian charm
and friendliness.
After a contest, the prime contract was entrusted to the architectural
planners Trévelo & Viger-Kohler (TVK).
