Persuasive writing

  1. 1. Persuasive Writing
  2. 2. What is persuasive writing?  Writing which convinces the someone to consume or purchase goods or services.  It tends to be a one-sided argument
  3. 3. What to include:  Repeat key ideas    Will help ideas stick in the consumers/listeners mind. E.g. how many fruits your smoothie includes. How many of your 5-a-day will the smoothie provide? Make your narrative personal   Use feelings   Using ‘I’ or ‘We’ sounds convincing and makes the listener feel like you are only speaking to them. Emotions can be used effectively to persuade people. How will drinking the smoothie make your consumer feel? Use Rhetorical questions  Questioning the consumer prompts them to think about what you are asking.  E.g. How easy is it for you to get your 5-a-day?
  4. 4. What to include:  Statistics   Exaggeration   Make the product sound appealing to the listener. Write in the present tense   Give information and exaggerate it to sound superior to what may actually be the case. Use adjectives (describing words)   E.g. 87% of people do not get their 5-a-day. Gives the sense of urgency to the listener. Positivity  Present how good the product is. Don’t comment on the negatives.
