1. 3 What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
2. Two media institutions could provide the potential possibility of distributing my product. These are Bauer and IPC media. IPC: IPC media is a consumer magazine and digital publisher with a portfolio selling over 350 million copies per year. This vital experience that the established institution holds within the market will provide an important platform for my magazine to get exposure at the heart of the market through gigs, supermarkets, newsagents, music shops like HMV and subscriptions which are available at the IPC website. IPC also focuses on three core audiences, one of which would be useful for my magazine. This is called the ‘Inspire’ division. This aims at men, I feel that this would be particularly appropriate as my magazine, although neutral, would appeal to men on a mass market better than women.IPC also has experience of publishing extremely successful music magazines such as NME, which is the magazine I have based my production on so that would be very useful.
3. Bauer: Bauer Media Group would be suitable to distribute my magazine for a number of reasons. First of all, Bauer already distributes music magazines like ‘Q’, ‘Mojo’ and ‘ Kerrang’ which all have elements that are similar to mine, they would therefore be quite likely to acquire more projects similar to their existing ones. Bauer are a well established organisation which have expanded into the UK with the purchase of ‘ Emap Consumer media’. So therefore not only would they be suitable to distribute my magazine through their great knowledge and experience in the area and the multiple magazines that they distribute that are similar to mine but the market placement in the UK and all over the world would be invaluable and key in getting ‘ FRET’ magazine out there. Finally Bauer have two subsidiaries, these are in television and radio, so these areas would also fit nicely with the musical element and the prestigious nature of the content within ‘FRET’ magazine, these prestigious elements like the latest bands that feature in the magazine wouldn't be out of place getting exposure on the radio and television.
