1. Verb Notes

2. 1. To find the verb, find
the subject of the
sentence which is
generally the first noun
you come to.

3. 2. Then, ask what
that noun is doing
and that will be the
verb. It is also
often the -ed word
for many verbs are
past tense.

4. 3. The other verbs are linking
verbs that join the first part of
the sentence to the second part
of the sentence.

5. 4. Verb tense in
a sentence
should remain
the same. If the
action occurred
in the past, then
all the verbs
must be in past
tense.

6. 5. There are 3 forms of
irregular verbs: Base Form,
Past Form, & Past Participle.

7. 6. A Direct Object receives the
action of a verb. It answers the
question whom? or what? after
an action verb.

8. Direct Object - what? or whom?
did the verb?
1. The actor remembered lines from the play.
2. The dog ate the food.
3. The student wrote a paper.
