6. @Sch4Change #S4CA
Topics include:
- Understanding New Power
- Using power to make a
difference
- Bringing others on board
- Using stories to create change
- Making sense of complexity
We are hosting six modules on FutureLearn to
complement the webinars which will open each
Monday. These modules are intended to help you
reflect on your learning, and how you might put it
in to action.
If you haven’t signed up to FutureLearn yet don’t worry, there’s still time. We hope
you’ll join in with the many change agents who are already introducing themselves,
and sharing their stories – this is an activity that is part of module one. It’s a brilliant
way of building your change agent network, making new friends, and growing a
mutually supportive community.

of defiance
is a super-competency for change agents

It’s a tough life being a change agent
• Working in a political system that feels like it is built on division and
criticism
• Challenging an all-powerful status quo
• Others don’t see the potential or possibilities
• You get ignored and treated as “not relevant”
• Your successes and accomplishments often don’t
get recognised
• You have to choose your battles and emotionally
detach from situations

Achieving a sense of social
belonging is a fundamental
psychological need

hurts…literally

Two interconnected strategies
1. Go about the
change in ways
that take people
with you
2. Manage your
own resilience
and that of your
team

BRACE, BRACE
For me, resilience
conjures secondary
meanings of “hold on tight”,
“toughen up” and “brace
yourself”

What is moral distress?

but organisational or institutional constraints

Individual AND collective resilience
Individual:
More power in my own
life and a greater ability
to spring forward
Collective:
We act together, united
by a common cause,
using our power and
influence to spring
forward together
