Como Cáritas de la Arquidiócesis
de Santiago de Guatemala,
nuestra área de trabajo abarca
los departamentos de Guatemala
y Sacatepéquez, aunque también
hemos logrado ejecutar proyectos
en otros departamentos de
Guatemala, con el aval de los
Obispos responsables; y si fuera
necesario, iríamos donde aún no
hemos llegado directamente.

«Dios le preguntó a Caín: “¿Dónde está tu
hermano?” Respondió: “No lo sé. ¿Acaso soy yo,
guardián de mi hermano?” Entonces le dijo Dios:
“¿Qué has hecho? La sangre de tu hermano,
clama y su grito llega a mí desde la tierra.”»
(Génesis 4,9-10).
Dos años después de la presencia de COVID19
en nuestros pueblos, aún con limitaciones
significativas en el funcionamiento del orden
social y con la crisis económica general,
agudizada; aparecen cada vez más vidas
llevadas al borde de la pobreza o aún más
sumergidas en ella, con escaso o nulo acceso a
servicios básicos y la dificultad o carencia de
medios para generar los recursos necesarios
para una vida digna. La exasperación y
desesperanza se van convirtiendo en los
sentimientos de quien sufre las complicaciones
actuales de vida; contrastando abruptamente
con una mayoría poblacional que, sintiéndose
intocable por ese flagelo social, empuja su
entorno a la recuperación de ‘su normalidad’,
haciéndose ciego e indiferente a lo ajeno y los
demás.

No se puede dejar de pensar en lo
insuficiente de las acciones gubernamentales
para mitigar los efectos ya bien sabidos de la
pandemia; aún con planteamientos que
parecen orientados a atender estas
situaciones, se hacen visiblemente escasos o
de efectos casi nulos por lo complejo del
marco social y, en ocasiones, el poco acceso
de la población a ellos.
Ante este panorama, que también se
vislumbra complicado para este año 2022, la
vida, Dios mismo que es la vida, nos pregunta:
¿Qué has hecho? Y pudiendo acusar de
ignorancia o estar libres de culpa porque no
lo hemos provocado ni pareciera nuestra
responsabilidad directa de cara a los demás;
el clamor de la tierra y el sufrimiento del otro,
no puede dejarnos impasibles y se convierte
en una invitación concreta a custodiar sus
vidas y actuar en favor de ellos, nuestros
hermanos. ¿Dónde están? ¿Qué hemos hecho?
Tal como también ha venido a recordarnos
este virus, nuestra fragilidad hace que
tratemos de aprovechar al máximo nuestro
paso por esta vida terrena; amando y
viviendo en el bien de Dios para el beneficio
de los demás. Un ejercicio del amor que hay
que actuarlo en el ahora, en el hoy, ¡en el Ya!
Quizá mañana ya no podamos responder.
El amor y el deseo de ayudar, tanto de hermanos
guatemaltecos como extranjeros, se van
convirtiendo en una respuesta de atención y
auxilio para quien sufre y nosotros, como una
institución de bien y de amor en Dios, también nos
ofrecemos para hacerlo una realidad que llegue a
transformar esas situaciones dolorosas y a dar
esperanza a nuestras comunidades necesitadas;
nos hacemos disponibles a Dios para que, a pesar
de las limitaciones actuales de recursos, lo poco
que tenemos, sea para responder oportuna y
efectivamente en favor de los que sufren y en
favor de la vida.
Agradecemos, como siempre, a todos los que nos
colaboran y confían en nuestra intención
transformadora de bien, rogando para que la
misericordia divina nos acompañe para alcanzar
mayores y mejores frutos para este año 2022,
creciendo en santidad y en amor de Dios. Y que,
por la intercesión de la Siempre Virgen María,
nuestra Divina Pastora, Dios, siga derramando sus
bendiciones sobre todos nosotros, miembros de
esta gran familia de servicio en el bien.

La Unidad de Desarrollo,
busca lograr un impacto
positivo en la necesidad de
las comunidades. Para este
fin se cuenta con un grupo
de profesionales enfocados
en la búsqueda de mejoras

SEGURIDAD ALIMENTARIA
Y NUTRICIONAL -SAN-
SAN trabaja con más de 2,000 familias conformadas por 3 a
14 personas distribuidas en 48 comunidades en las áreas de
Guatemala, Sacatepéquez, Escuintla y Chimaltenango.
Aproximadamente son más de 10,000 beneficiados por los
alimentos entregados. Anualmente se entregan 2,232
quintales de arroz y frijol, 89, 232 cajas de Spammy (24 latas)
y 9,561 cajas de lentejas (14 bolsas de 2.5kg).
Durante el 2021 se entregaron 7,704 cajas de galletas
nutritivas donadas por el grupo Cerealto Siro para ayudar a
la nutrición de los niños beneficiados, así como a las familias
que están dentro del programa.

Durante el 2021, el programa
Centro Chispa facilitó
espacios de aprendizaje a
través de metodología lúdica en
jornadas matutina y vespertina,
estructurados en módulos para
atender las necesidades de
cada etapa de niños y niñas.
Estos módulos responden a seis
estaciones de aprendizaje:
Libro de los sueños
Imaginación
Manualidades
Idioma Inglés
Computación
Actividad física.
Los Centros Chispa también fueron afectados
por el CoVid-19; los niños ya no podían
asistir a las instalaciones, y debían
continuar en casa. Por esta razón se vio la
necesidad de s e g u i r e d u c a n d o y
fortaleciendo las habilidades de los niños, y
una buena forma de hacerlo, fue reunir todos
los materiales que tenían en el centro en una
caja personal a la cual se le denominó
“Chispa Box”.
Se entregaron 625 Chispa Box a 625 niños y
250 Chispa Brain a niños de 9 a 12 años.

9.
ÁNGELES DE ESPERANZA
La programación de acompañamiento
para visitas de cada hogar que forma
parte de Ángeles de Esperanza se
atribuye a 21 centros atendidos debido
a la situación de confinamiento, 6 de
ellos a través de metodología virtual con
seguimiento presencial esporádico.
Además, se entregaron kits de higiene
personal que ayudaron a cubrir
necesidades básicas.
Los kits de limpieza apoyaron a mantener
espacios limpios y desinfectados
garantizando el bienestar de los niños y
niñas.
Se explicó a los beneficiados del
impacto positivo de las donaciones de
nuestra institución.
Fueron entregados 1,449 kits para los
apadrinados que pertenecen a 21
hogares y más de 2,170 niños.

EMPODERANDO A LA MUJER
El programa de capacitación y emprendimiento durante este primer año,
cumplió con el objetivo de ser un centro técnico de capacitación con
la enseñanza-aprendizaje de las técnicas básicas de corte y
confección, así mismo con la formación y el acompañamiento en
programas de emprendimiento y autogestión para beneficio personal y
de la comunidad.
Durante el 2021, gracias a las donaciones recibidas por Food For The
Poor, se beneficiaron mujeres de diferentes comunidades con materiales,
formación y habilidades para favorecer nuevos emprendimientos
personales y colectivos para la comunidad a la que pertenecen.

ALIANZAS ACADÉMICAS
-Becas escolares-
Con el apoyo de Hormel Foods, el programa de becas
escolares ayudó en el 2021 a 8 alumnos de los cuales 3
obtuvieron el título correspondiente.
Las instituciones educativas que atendieron a nuestros
alumnos becados fueron:

Con el apoyo de intituciones dedicadas a la
formación académica, se logró la inscripción de
85 jóvenes y adultos para estudiar el nivel
básico a partir del año 2022 en las siguientes
comunidades de Palencia:

La paciente nos refirió que con
sus embarazos anteriores no
había realizado control alguno y
los partos se realizaban siempre
con comadronas en su misma
comunidad. No existía la
asistencia medica por su
ubicación y nunca se realizaba
exámenes antes, durante, o
cercana a la hora del parto. Así

con programas trabajados
conjuntamente con personal de

RECONSTRUCCIÓN Y FOMENTO
DEL TEJIDO SOCIAL COMUNITARIO
Con el financiamiento del
Ministerio Federal de
Cooperación Económica y
Desarrollo de Alemania -BMZ- y
Cáritas Alemania; el proyecto
trabaja no solo en Cáritas
Arquidiocesana de Guatemala,
sino también con otras copartes,
las cuales son la Pastoral Social
Cáritas Diócesis de Quiché, la
Pastoral Social Cáritas
Arquidiócesis de los Altos y
Pastoral de la Tierra Diócesis de
San Marcos.

Dentro de las actividades a
resaltar en el 2021 están la
realización de dos encuentros
de agentes promotoras de
cambio, cuyo objetivo fue el
fortalecimiento a 26 lideresas
representadas por nueve grupos
de autogestión de mujeres,
quienes acompañarán a las
juntas directivas para mejorar su
incidencia a nivel local y
municipal.

GESTIÓN DE RIESGO
Durante el 2021, el equipo de
Gestión de Riesgo tuvo diversas
participaciones relevantes para
beneficio de las comunidades y el
personal interno:

Juan Amatitlán, Nuestra Señora de
Fátima participaron en el
diplomado de Gestión Integral de
Riesgos y Gestión de proyecto en
Quetzaltenango.

INFRAESTRUCTURA
El objetivo de Caritas es brindarles a las familias una solución
habitacional digna, elevar la calidad del entorno y el
acceso a servicios básicos e infraestructura comunitaria.
En todos los proyectos se cuenta con el apoyo de las familias
beneficiadas para realizar el terraplén, zanjeado, acarreo
de los materiales del punto donde pueden entregar los
camiones hasta sus viviendas y además uno o dos miembros
de la familia son los ayudantes del albañil en la construcción.
La vivienda es de 6x6 metros y cuenta con dos dormitorios, un
espacio para sala-comedor, cuatro ventanas, dos puertas de
metal y techo de lámina troquelada calibre 26.

Durante el año 2021, el área de
Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural, tuvo
participación en distintas
comunidades del departamento de
Guatemala y Escuintla, bajo el
esquema de promoción y ejecución
de proyectos generadores de

como principal objetivo abrir
oportunidades de desarrollo
comunitario, con enfoque de
sostenibilidad en la rama de

Materno Infantil Juan Pablo II
A lo largo de 37 años,
Cáritas Arquidiocesana, a
través de su programa más

Hospital Materno Infantil
Juan Pablo II, ha brindado
servicios integrales a la
población que más lo
necesita.
Se atiende a pacientes
de todos los municipios del
departamento de Guatemala
y sus aledaños, la mayor
parte de los niños que se
trata en el hospital son de:

PROFESIONALES
con intención y acción
El Hospital Materno Infantil Juan Pablo II, atiende a pacientes
externos, especialmente de pediatría general, emergencias,
consultas de especialidades pediátricas, odontología,
psicología entre otras, también se brinda el servicio de
ginecología y obstetricia.
En el Área de Pediatría se atiende a niños de 0 a 17 años de
edad, ya que se incluye la medicina del adolescente,
contamos con más de 20 especialidades pediátricas, cirugía
y encamamiento. En el Área de Ginecología y Obstetricia se
atiende a mujeres de todas las edades. También se cuenta
con servicios para toda la familia, como nutrición,
oftalmología, laboratorio clínico, farmacia y rayos x.
Se ofrece albergue a las personas que
nos visitan del interior del país y
necesitan un lugar para su estadía
mientras su paciente es atendido.
Gracias a la ayuda de fondos estatales,
se tiene la oportunidad de apoyar a
pacientes internos, así como brindar
gratuidad en consultas, exámenes
cirugías y hospitalización de quienes
necesitaban este apoyo.

ESCUELA DE AUXILIARES DE ENFERMERÍA
“MONSEÑOR ARNOLD POLL”
La promoción XXII de la escuela tuvo un
camino particular, durante el 2020-2021
se formó a 24 estudiantes. La escuela
recibe apoyo de la Fundación Paiz, que
brinda becas a las personas interesadas
en aprender esta bella profesión.
Se brindan valores morales ejemplares,
sustentando sus prácticas en
conocimientos científicos con
capacidades y habilidades para
proporcionar cuidado con calidez
competente y ética moral.
Durante el último trimestre de 2021 los
estudiantes apoyaron el desarrollo de
las actividades del Centro de
Vacunación contra el COVID-19 que
Cáritas Arquidiocesana tuvo trabajando
en conjunto con el MSPAS.

FORMACIÓN ACADÉMICA INTEGRAL
Realizando un trabajo conjunto con la Universidad Rafael
Landívar, a lo largo de 26 años se ha formado en el Hospital
Materno Infantil Juan Pablo II, Médicos Pediatras
capacitados que ahora trabajan brindando atención de
excelencia en diferentes hospitales del país.
Durante el 2021 se graduaron 8 nuevos Pediatras con lo que
el total de egresados de este programa ya suman 126 y el
programa sigue adelante con residentes que están en
formación con una exigencia académica notable.

Summary

Two years after the presence of COVID19 in our
towns, still with significant limitations in the
functioning of the social order and with the
general economic crisis, exacerbated; More and
more lives appear on the verge of poverty or
even more submerged in it, with little or no access

One cannot stop thinking about the
insufficient government actions to mitigate the
already well-known effects of the pandemic;
Even with approaches that seem to be aimed
at dealing with these situations, they become
visibly scarce or have almost no effect due to
the complexity of the social framework and, on
occasions, the poor access of the population
to them.
Faced with this panorama, which also seems
complicated for this year 2022, life, God
himself who is life, asks us: What have you
done? And being able to accuse of
ignorance or be free of guilt because we
have not provoked it nor does it seem our
direct responsibility towards others; the
clamor of the earth and the suffering of the
other, cannot leave us impassive and
becomes a concrete invitation to guard their
lives and act in favor of them, our brothers.
Where are they? What have we done?
Just as this virus has also come to remind us,
our fragility makes us try to make the most of
our passage through this earthly life; loving
and living in the good of God for the benefit
of others. An exercise of love that must be
acted in the now, in the today, in the Now!
Maybe tomorrow we can no longer answer.
The love and desire to help, both from Guatemalan
and foreign brothers, are becoming a response of
attention and help for those who suffer and we, as
an institution of good and love in God, also offer
ourselves to make it a reality that come to
transform these painful situations and give hope to
our communities in need; we make ourselves
available to God so that, despite the current
limitations of resources, what little we have, is to
respond timely and effectively in favor of those
who suffer and in favor of life.
We thank, as always, all those who collaborate with
us and trust in our transforming intention for good,
praying that divine mercy accompany us to
achieve greater and better fruits for this year
2022, growing in holiness and in love of God. And
that, through the intercession of the Ever Virgin
Mary, our Divine Shepherdess, God, continue to

FOOD AND NUTRITION
SECURITY -SAN-
SAN works with more than 2,000 families made up of 3 to 14
people distributed in 48 communities in the areas of
Guatemala, Sacatepéquez, Escuintla and Chimaltenango.
Approximately there are more than 10,000 beneficiaries of the
food delivered. 2,232 quintals of rice and beans are
delivered annually, 89, 232 boxes of Spammy (24 cans per
box) and 9,561 boxes of lentils (14 bags of 2.5kg each box).
During 2021, 7,704 boxes of nutritious cookies were delivered
donated by the Cerealto Siro Group to help the nutrition of
the benefited children, as well as the families that are in the
program.

Chispa program facilitated
learning spaces through playful
methodology in morning and
afternoon sessions, structured in
modules to meet the needs of
each stage of boys and girls.
These modules respond to six

The Chispa Centers were also affected by
Covid-19 because the children could no
longer attend the facilities and had to
continue at home. For this reason, the need to
continue educating and strengthening the
children's skills was seen, and a good way to
do it was to gather all the materials they had
in the center in a personal box called
"Chispa Box".
625 Chispa Boxes were given to 625 children
and 250 Chispa Brains to children between
the ages of 9 and 12.

ANGELS OF HOPE
The support schedule for visits to each
home that is part of Angels of Hope is
attributed to 21 centers served due to
the confinement situation, 6 of them
through virtual methodology with
sporadic face-to-face monitoring.
In addition, personal hygiene kits were
delivered that helped cover basic needs.
The cleaning kits helped to keep spaces
clean and disinfected, guaranteeing the
well-being of children.
The positive impact of donations from our
institution was explained to the
beneficiaries.
1,449 kits were delivered to sponsored
children belonging to 21 homes and
more than 2,170 children.

EMPOWERING WOMEN
The training and entrepreneurship program during this first year fulfilled
the objective of being a technical training center with the
teaching-learning of basic cutting and sewing techniques, as well as
training and support in entrepreneurship and self-management programs
for personal and community benefit.
During 2021, thanks to the donations received by Food For The Poor,
they benefited women from different communities with materials, training
and skills to promote new personal and collective undertakings for the
community to which they belong.

Summary
INFRASTRUCTURE
The objective of Caritas is to provide families with a decent
housing solution, raise the quality of the environment and
access to basic services and community infrastructure.
In all the projects, we have the support of the beneficiary
families to carry out the embankment, ditching, hauling the
materials from the point where they can deliver the trucks to
their homes and, in addition, one or two members of the family
are the helpers of the bricklayer in the building.
The house is 6x6 meters and has two bedrooms, a space for a
living-dining room, four windows, two metal doors and a
26-gauge die-cast sheet roof.

with intention and action
The Juan Pablo II Maternal and Child Hospital cares for
outpatients, especially general pediatrics, emergencies,
pediatric specialty consultations, odontology, psychology,
among others, as well as gynecology and obstetrics services.
In the Pediatrics Area, children from 0 to 17 years of age are
treated, since adolescent medicine is included, we have more
than 20 pediatric specialties, surgery and bedridden. In the
Gynecology and Obstetrics Area, women of all ages are
treated. There are also services for the whole family, such as
nutrition, ophthalmology, clinical laboratory, pharmacy and
x-rays.
Shelter is offered to people who visit us
from the interior of the country and need
a place to stay while their patient is
treated.
Thanks to the help of state funds, there is
the opportunity to support inpatients, as
well as provide free consultations, tests,
surgeries and hospitalization for those
who needed this support.

The XXII promotion of the school had a
particular path, during 2020-2021 24

Carrying out joint work with the Rafael Landívar University,
over 26 years the Juan Pablo II Maternal and Child Hospital
has trained trained Pediatricians who now work providing

total number of graduates of this program to 126 and the
program continues with residents who are in training with a
notable academic requirement.
