Remorse is being sorry you got caught. Suppose you‘re driving fast and got caught by the police (because you broke the speed limit). You are remorseful because had you not got caught you would have kept driving fast. Repentance is being sorry enough to stop what you are doing and change your behavior.

1. True Repentance Vs. False Repentance
“When God calls us into a relationship, there are obstacles that stand in the way
of us having a relationship with Him and one of them is our sins. Repentance is a
step in the process in removing the obstacle of sin in our lives.”
Repentance & Remorse:
“Remorse is being sorry you got caught. Suppose you„re driving fast and got

Judas like repentance:
“Judas like" repentance usually starts with people in God‟s church. Judas hated
himself and had every reason too. He had been in the presence of the Master

authority but scorned having ruler ship with Christ. His final act was
unparalleled in history and was one of self-destruction. He repented and
showed remorse.”

“Judas‟ remorse, acknowledgement of guilt and repentance led to another
sin...which was when he took his own life. When you truly repent you don‟t
remove yourself from the situation but stay in it and face what you have
done.”
“Judas was remorseful about his betrayal of Jesus because he knew Jesus
was innocent, but instead of turning to Jesus, he turned to religious leaders.
He tried to put a band-aid on what needed open heart surgery.”
Acts 20:21
“It‟s because we have not experienced true repentance with God that we are
experiencing the same sins over and over.”

3. “Saul made his confession to Samuel only and admitted he transgressed
the Lord, but he asked only Samuel‟s pardon and that was not sufficient.
He didn‟t ask God to pardon him. When we do that we make that person
God in our life and they might not even be Godly.”
Exodus 22:5
“Saul excuses his faults by saying he feared the people, but he was more
interested in preserving his dignity and reputation and he wanted no one to
know that God had rejected him as king. A person who is falsely repenting
will try and bring someone around them who is living right to make it seem
like they have true repentance.”
“People who falsely repent also feel like they can‟t worship God unless a
holy person is around.”
“God rejected Saul as king, but what would have happened if Saul had
come to Him repenting?”
“An unrepentant person may try to cling to someone living upright to
receive benefits.”

4. King David Repentance:
“David realized the sin he committed, but realized that he sinned against
God.”
Psalms 51:1-4
2 Samuel 12:9-14
“In spite of the wretchedness he brought upon himself and others, David
still said that he had sinned against God only.”
Judas:
John 12:1-5
“Judas became critical of Christ when he had sinned. When David sinned
he was horrified of what he done to God. He had diminished God‟s power
and a part of His plan. David repented because he wanted to serve God,
not because he got found out or exposed.”
What does repentance include:
“Repentance includes changing your mind about sin & God, which results
in turning from sin to God.”

5. “Repentance affects the whole life of sinner. It includes taking the blame for
your sinful condition before God and also siding with God against yourself.”
“Repentance leads to forsaking sin.”
“A repenting sinner determines not to return to it.”
“A truly repentant person hates sin and longs to be free from it.”
“A truly repentant person sorrows over his sin and determines not to return
to it.”
“A truly repentant person shows his repentance is real by walking in the
pathway of righteous and true holiness bearing the fruits of repentance.”

with God and His way.”
Worldly sorrow:
2 Corinthians 7:10-11
“Sorrow for the world seems to be a temporary remorseful feeling without
changing the way you live.”
“Godly sorrow involves a real and lasting change.”
Job 42:5-6
“Ashes are what‟s left when you burn something and it represents your sin,
it‟s the most humbling thing a person can do.”

“Job realized his own need for repentance by seeing how awesome God is
and how insignificant he was.”

7. “Joel stresses that repentance is not just an outward show. It must be of
the heart and bring a real change of attitude.”
“As Jesus explained - we must be willing to give up our lives in
unconditional surrender. Our life is not our own.”
How are sins forgiven:
Romans 5:8-10
John 3:16
“Sin made us enemies of God, and Christ sacrificed and paid our death
penalty. When we are repentant, we accept His sacrifices. Nothing we can
ever do can earn His forgiveness. God is willing to forgive us and show
forgiveness when we show and understand the seriousness of our sin and
commit to change.”
