The July 2017 newsletter from ICF Colorado provides information on upcoming events and programs for coaches. It summarizes the keynote speakers and topics for the annual fall conference on "Fearless Leadership" in November. It also previews upcoming virtual and in-person programs in July, August, and September on topics like quieting the inner critic, discernment vs. judgment, and leveraging assessment instruments. The newsletter provides details on registering for the events and encourages coaches to get involved through sponsorship or program proposals.

Message from Dr. Lisa Hale
2017 President
"Every system is perfect for the result it produces" Steve said from the front of
the room. He turned his back to the audience who were to a person madly
scribbling down this pearl of wisdom, and wrote on the giant whiteboard provided
by the hotel.
What is Your System?
Caryn raised her hand and asked questions – how do I define system? What do
you mean by system? And the fog cleared. Your system is whatever combination
of actions, attitudes, practices and mechanisms that produce the elements of
your life! The audience members were writing furiously now and Darrin blurted
out: "Oh this applies to everything right!? My health, my marriage, my coaching
business, my finances – all of it!" And Steve smiled and said, "Yes it does." So, what is your system?
For us, as professional coaches, we might ask the following questions:
• What is my system for acquiring clients (look at the last 3-5 clients and describe how they came into
your practice)?
• What is my system for moving with a person from "prospect" to client?
• What is my system for creating agreements with my clients?
• What system of coaching I use to really serve my clients well?
• What system do I use for ---- what is the question for you? [referrals, maintaining a full practice,
selecting who I want to coach and who I don’t, keeping my own self well balanced and cared for ... ?]
• What system produces healthy relationships in my personal life?
• What system keeps me personally healthy of body, heart and spirit?
And there are many more questions to inquire about of course. And once the system is identified here are
some excellent questions to ask next:
• What do you LOVE most about your system?
• What surprises you most about how your system operates?
• What frustrates you about your system?
• What doesn't work in your system?
• Is there a different result you want your system to produce?
ICF-CO is dedicated to helping you hone your system of providing professional coaching using a standard
of excellence that fulfills you!

Life Transitions and Our "Right Stuff"
By Charlie L. Barrett, C.P.C.
To paraphrase a bumper sticker I see often, "STUFF HAPPENS."
Some "STUFF" happens to us, and some "STUFF" happens that is
inspired by us. To insure the "Right Stuff" happens in our lives takes
a little fore thought and planning.
Going through the "Transitions" of life, leaving home, graduating
from college, marriage, a new job, entering retirement, etc. can be
difficult and sometimes the anxiety is overwhelming. Much of that is
caused by the fact "we don’t know what 'stuff' is going to happen
next." However, if we look at the opportunity we have at those
times, to CREATE our next phase of life, and the fact that we are in
charge of actually "crafting" what happens next, it gets exciting.

Coaching the Person, Not Just the Problem
By Walt Hastings, PCC and
ICF Colorado Credentialing Director
Perhaps you have heard the often repeated phrase, "Coach the
person, not the problem." What does this mean?
As a coach, my aim is to inspire clients to grow both personally and
professionally, as well as to assist them in dealing with their
presenting issues in a coaching session. I want them to expand
awareness about themselves, as well as gain insight into their
situation.
In the coaching world, we have developed certain words with specialized meanings. These
include the words "who" and "what." There are "what" questions, as contrasted with "who"
questions. What’s the difference?

"Discernment versus Judgment"
*Revised pricing
Help your clients build skills in emotional intelligence…their success
depends on it.
CCEUs: 1 in Core Competencies
We all know that masterful coaching doesn’t
just happen. It’s the product of being
exquisitely present with your clients and
having the capacity to quickly perceive —and
apply (dare I say?) wisdom.
It’s in the misunderstanding and
misapplication of the distinction between
discernment and judgement where the
client’s and coaches’ wisdom gets lost and
potentially excellent coaching gets bogged
down in the impotence of mediocrity.
This hour-long webinar begins with a 20-minute lesson, followed by
powerful discussion time. It also includes a short demo coaching,
where you’ll make some of the key distinctions necessary to do
more masterful coaching, now!

Panel of Speakers: Sandy Blaha, Lisa Hale, Terry
Hildebrandt, Amanda Trosten-Bloom
"Leveraging Assessment Instruments for Better
Coaching: Which Tools Do You Want in Your Tool
Box?"
With a multitude of assessment instruments available for coaches
to use, it’s no wonder that many coaches are not always sure what
the best assessment tools might be for their clients. Knowing which
tools to use and when (if at all) is not necessarily obvious. This
panel presentation & discussion will give us an opportunity to
unpack this complex and multifaceted subject, and hear from a
panel of experts on the subject.

5. September 2017 Monthly Meeting (In-Person
Meeting)
Gregg Levoy
"Vital Signs: The Nature and Nurture of Passion"
Passion is a concept that’s talked about a
lot in the business, career, coaching and
leadership arenas – employee
engagement, mission statements, finding
a calling. But passion is much bigger (and
deeper) than what happens M-F 9-5. It’s a
life skill – a stance – that helps bring
vitality to all our engagements: work life,
family life, school life, love life, creative
life, social life, and spiritual life.
Passion is the impulse toward growth and
aliveness, and not only helps awaken us from the trances and
torpors of daily life, but is a survival mechanism, because our
attachment to life depends on our interest in it.
This presentation is about what inspires passion and what defeats
it, how we lose it and how we get it back – both for ourselves and
our clients. It’s not just about finding a passion, but living
passionately. Not just passion as a place we get to, but a place we
come from, whether in the arenas of creativity and self-expression,
service and spirituality, adventure and discovery, or relationship.
