  1. Tell the story of “removing the table…” Represents the change and innovation process Take risk, safe to fail, felt supported to take risk Creating a space for shared learning, open sharing of ideas, active engagement by all members
  2. Share background / history of what brought us to this presentation SOS Innovation and Research Forum 2013 Current collaborative directions being explored 1) knowledge exchange 2) applications of un-conference approach to team meetings 3) evaluation of a staff-driven innovation process

  4. Briefly talk about Social Services Department in the context of the Region of Durham
  5. Briefly highlight each division
  6. Talk about staff driven initiatives for change and innovation, made possible by our approach to leadership, made possible by the organizational culture within our department.
  7. Focus on staff-driven process for change (surrounding individuals with support team) Share stories and video of staff leadership.
  8. Talk about department’s approach to leadership (head, heart, servant leadership) Talk about leadership circle Share examples of qualitative feedback from LC members Briefly talk about my own experience as a facilitator
  9. Talk about circle (representing community of support for staff driven change and innovation) and triangle (formal organizational structure that protects and provides permission for circle).
  10. Talk about moving from leadership by position / title (e.g., a single leader) to shared learning and leadership (e.g., leadership by all, irrespective of title / position)
  11. Talk about: - leadership being disbursed amongst all staff - expertise being disbursed amongst all staff - knowledge being disbursed amongst all staff - skills being drawn from all staff - learning from one another as we grow ideas and support staff-driven change, leadership, and innovation
  12. Facilitate discussion in small groups
  13. Talk about: - ideas for change and innovation being within all of us, irrespective of position or title. - creating the space for innovation – creating communities of support, allows leadership to emerge from everyone, inspiring us to see new possibilities. - Dream, Inspire, Achieve (the phrase used to describe our journey to a culture of staff driven change and innovation)
