  1. 1. Unit 27 Task 3 Week 5-8
  2. 2. Week 5/8 Improvement Priority 1: Set Moves Improvement Priority 2: Flexibilty Date: 02/3/15 Date: 5/3/15 Time: 15:00 Time: 09:30 Venue: Rugby pitch Venue: College gym, just outside the gym Equipment: Balls, cones, tackles bags Equipment: Plyometric tables, various heights Weather: Clear but cold Weather: Clear Coaches Review: With some big fixtures coming up it is important to make sure that everyone is reading from the same page and understands their roles in the moves, from no1 to no23 Coaches Review: Players are left to manage their own strength and conditions, however if they get stuck on what they could or should be doing they can speak to Sam or Sambrook. Athlete Feedback / Questions: Because we had some important games coming up we focused on game set up. We spent the majority of training running the different moves whilst forwards did scrums and linesout before coming together and do team runs. Athlete Feedback / Questions: Plyometric isn't something that I have done a lot of before so am unsure of what to do. Is Progress As Expected? If No Describe: During training those who werent in the starting line up would run against the starting line up to give then some opposition and resistance. During training Daan had a good success rate at completing and seems to have developed his understanding or them more Is Progress As Expected? If No Describe: After demonstrating to Daan what to do, jumping on and off the box/table I let him complete the exercises, at his own pace. http://www.brianmac.co.uk/plymo.htm Are the Next Session Overload and Progression Plans Appropriate? If No Describe: Next session sill be a video analysis to see how well he was able to implement his new homed skills in the game although playing in a different position, it meant he was still aware of what he had to be doing and when to do it. Which makes him a more effective player as he can play in a number of different positions and is still aware of what is happening around him and how to run the moves. Are the Next Session Overload and Progression Plans Appropriate? If No Describe: Next session is to be a isometric exercises, this will overload and progress as he will do this at a medium level of intensity or until it feels uncomfortable. http://www.howtodothings.com/health-and-fitness/a3974- how-to-do-isometric-exercises.html Was Contingency Needed? 3. 3. Week 6/8 Improvement Priority 1: Improvement Priority 2: Date: 12/3/15 Date: 12/3/15 Time: 13:30 Time: 09:00 Venue: Learning zone Venue: College gym Equipment: Ipad, notepad and pen Equipment: N/A Weather: N/A, inside Weather: N/A inside Coaches Review: N/A player lead session Coaches Review: Players are left to manage their own strength and conditions, however if they get stuck on what they could or should be doing they can speak to Sam or Sambrook. Athlete Feedback / Questions: Doing video analysis is something Ben and Sam want us to do for every game. Some times we do it as part of a training session and sometimes we have to do it in our own time. Sometimes its difficult to do it though if we have a lot of work to do. However you do benefit from doing it. Athlete Feedback / Questions: Today was focused on isometric exercises for the legs, doing isometric squats and calf raises, and I could really feel the muscles burning. Is Progress As Expected? If No Describe: Daan’s player profile is coming along nicely and there are signs of his improvement with the amount of plays attempted and those which are successful. Is Progress As Expected? If No Describe: Daan seems to be coping well with the managing to do it all along with all his other training he does, he is able to complete the required training in a controlled manor so we’ll increase the amount of sets or the intentiny of the exercise. Are the Next Session Overload and Progression Plans Appropriate? If No Describe: The next session is the last training session and game prep for Daan in this 8 week training program. Depending on whether Daan has a game would depend on the intensity of which the training session is done at. Are the Next Session Overload and Progression Plans Appropriate? If No Describe: Next session is looking at plyometric training, but he going to completing it to a heavier intensity, this will make it an appropriate exercise and it is progressive and will be overloading the training. 4. 4. Week 7/8 Improvement Priority 1: Improvement Priority 2: Date: 16/3/15 Date: 19/3/15 Time: 15:00 Time: 09:15 Venue: Hill barn Venue: College field Equipment: Balls, cones, bibs Equipment: N/A Weather: Clear Weather: Clear Coaches Review: National cup semi final week for blues, and greens playing Hartpury. A big week for the squad. The session is going to be some skills and defensive work to start with followed by player lead team runs. Coaches Review: Player lead, conditioning session Athlete Feedback / Questions: The session was good. We did some defensive set up which was good, working on; guard, 9, 10. Afterward we spent 30 minutes going through moves and then doing a team run. Athlete Feedback / Questions: This session I found a lot harder. The amount I had to do and the intensity of it as well. I felt fatigued towards the end. http://www.fitnessblender.com/articles/plyometrics-workout- leg-plyometrics-exercises Is Progress As Expected? If No Describe: Daan is more confident and comfortable with his abilities and the moves, though he playing at 10 this week, he is still confident in what he has to do for each move. Is Progress As Expected? If No Describe: Daan found this session a lot more difficult, which is what I wanted, I wanted to up the intensity, to really make him work. This is a session where we will see if he has made any progress over the last 7 weeks. Are the Next Session Overload and Progression Plans Appropriate? If No Describe: The next session will be a review meeting to judge just how well he has improved. This will be conducted as an interview . Are the Next Session Overload and Progression Plans Appropriate? If No Describe: The next session is to be a isometric exercises, and he is to complete the exercises at a higher level of intensity than to when he did isometric exercises. http://www.howtodothings.com/health-and-fitness/a3974- how-to-do-isometric-exercises.html Was Contingency Needed? 5. 5. Week 8/8 Improvement Priority 1: Improvement Priority 2: Date: 26/3/15 Date: 25/3/15 Time: 09:00 Time: 10:00 Venue: Library Venue: College gym Equipment: Player profiling sheets Equipment: N/A Weather: N/A Weather: N/A Coaches Review: Players session Coaches Review: Players session Athlete Feedback / Questions: This last week of the training program is to have a review of the last 8 weeks and to chat about how I feel I have progressed. This was done in the form of an interview and Iain also asked me what I thought about the whole experience. I felt the training methods used were good, although because of what we were trying to achieve there wasn’t much variation in my opinion. Athlete Feedback / Questions: http://www.howtodothings.com/health-and-fitness/a3974- how-to-do-isometric-exercises.html This is the same exercises which we did the other week, though we have upped to quantity and the intensity. Iain said he chose to do isometric training because I did plyometric last time and wasn’t here how well I would have recovered. Is Progress As Expected? If No Describe: From all the evidence I have got and seen Daan has progressed in his ability to complete the set moves with a higher success rate. This has also improved Daan’s confidence whilst playing, as he is more confident in his abilities. Is Progress As Expected? If No Describe: Daan has taken to it really well, he has shown improvements throughout. As for this last session I think fatigue was starting to get to him . Was Contingency Needed? If Yes Describe: No contingency was needed. Was Contingency Needed? If Yes Describe: None needed
