4. Presentation
My music video’s narrative will follow a group of teenagers from BAME
backgrounds exploring London. It will have an indie genre, to match the music. I’ll
execute the independent feel by mainly shooting it by hand, transitioning
frequently from multiple viewpoints, and
the use of many close up shots. I’ll also aim to include multiple zoom-in frames, to
emit a feeling of amateur filming and shaky shots as if the footage is being filmed
by the characters themselves.
I’ve chosen to have the characters wander through and appreciate multiple
locations as it relates to the desired plot of the music video. The use of beautiful
but familiar scenery for the audience will be used to further boost the enjoyability
of the music video, as well as emit a feeling of nostalgia.
The target audience will be teenagers, from ethnic minorities, who live in London.
The music video will represent how people from these marginalised group,
especially immigrants, usually have no time to really take in the beauty of London
as a city, and properly explore it. This may be due to chasing different goals, such
as education or employment. By including these demographics in the music video,
it could help the audience to relate to the media and want to watch it. I’ll further
appeal to this audience by including many pop culture references and inside jokes
(such as the characters’ uses of TikTok and BeReal, who appeal to these
audiences).
I’ll draw inspiration from the A24 film “mid90s”, which incorporates a handheld
camera sequence at the end of the film, shot by one of the main characters. While
the film addresses serious topics, the sequence included at the end helps the
audience to empathise with the characters. The fun-filled, joyous atmosphere of
