Project title: BADA$$
Project:
Project Description:
This is the first ever issue of an RnB, Hip Hop and Pop magazine called BADA$$.
It is going to compete with other major RnB, Hip Hop and Pop magazines like
XXL and VIBE. My inspiration has come mainly from Billboard magazine. In this
first issue I will be creating the front page, the contents page and a double page
spread on the main feature. On the front page will be a large main image. On the
contents page there will be around 4 images. This will include the main image
and other images linking to articles in the magazine. On the double page spread I
will use the same model as the front page and have a larger image and a smaller
image over the 2 pages.
Photographer:
The photographer for my magazine is going to myself. The angle for the main
image is either going to be a long shot or a close up. With the long shot the reader
will be able to see the whole outfit therefore fully understanding the character of
the artist through what she is wearing. This lighting for the images will be high
key to reflect the bright side of RnB, Hip Hop and Pop. I don’t really intend to add
effects to the image as I prefer it to look natural.
Reference images and ideas:
Reasons behind the title.
The $$ signs that replace the letter ‘s’ represent money. The reason I have chosen
to do this is because I believe that money is a key aspect of many lyrics in RnB,
Hip Hop and Pop songs. The inclusion of the dollar sign in the masthead connotes
that the magazine means business and represents the success of the artists that
feature.

Casting:
These people are suitable because they have the star like appearance which is
key when shooting for the front of a magazine. I also like their hairstyle and the
makeup.
Model requirements:
My model is going to be female and around 5’6. She has dark brown hair and
green eyes. Her overall look, including makeup will be inspired by the artist
Rhianna. The ethnicity of my model for this particular shoot is white British,
however because of the diversity of the magazine this will change with every
issue. The age of my model is 16.

For the shoot I want my model to wear a leather jacket, blue tight jeans a sparkly
crop top and Adidas superstars. This look has been inspired by social media and
many fashion blogs on Instagram and twitter. It has influences from the Hip Hop,
R&B and Pop world so links in very well with the theme of the magazine.
Hair and Make-up:
This is the makeup that I
want my model to wear. I like the dark lip as it connotes rebel which is suitable
for the artist and the magazine theme. The right hand picture is the hairstyle. I
have chosen this because I like the simplicity and the fact that it has not been
messed with too much represents the rawness of the artist. The scraped back
look highlights the features on the face and leaves the artist exposed.
