A combined cycle power plant uses both a gas and a steam turbine
together to produce upto 50% more electricity from the same fuel
than a traditional simple cycle plant.

BPDB –RPCL POWERGEN KODDA 150MW POWER PLANT
INTRODUCTION
1. KODDA 150MW power plant is a duel fuel power plant .
2. Operates in both high furnace oil(HFO) and Gas.
3. Uses diesel oil (LFO) to avoid any loss
4. Has a 132kv substation
5. Fire fighting section
6. 9 diesel engine producing 17.4MW power each

1. there are pipe lines for hfo and lfo oil.
2. At starting LFO oil passes in the booster unit and engine’s moving
part .
3. In seconds HFO injected in engine.
4. Before stopping engine again LFO is injected
Mechanical function
1. Lube oil is passed to risen up the efficiency of turbocharger
2. Then air is suctioned and compressed at high,which produces
rapid heat
3. Then injected fuel and heat causes huge explosion
4. This creates huge mechanical pressure and thus the crank shaft
rotates
5. Which makes the rotor to rotate as it is coupled with cylnder’s
crank shaft.
Alternator configuration
1. Dc supply is given to a bar twisted with wire and it creates a
magnetic field acted as rotor.
2. Power or voltage is produced stator
3. Because of low production of residual magnetism PMG is used.
4. Ac power is obtained from PMG and sent to AVR.
5. AVR is programmed as only to produce 11kv of dc power
Alternator configuration
 AVR is coupled with a three phase circuit which acts like AC .
 To tranform ac to dc rectifier circuit is used and it is the rotor
from where dc power is obtained.
 Rotor is a magnetic field which cuts the winding thus cuts the flux
and produces voltage
 From PMG avr gets the ac power supply and sends to excitation
field and by plc it controls the voltage production
Substation
• This power plant has 4 transformers , among them 3 are always
active and 1 is standby.
• Each transformer has primary winding is 11kv and secondary winding
is 132kv ,which is given to national grid.
• National grid sends to joydebpur and kabripur.
• Its has many CT ,PT , neutral grounding resistance (NGR)

Power Supply:
• PDB generates Power and sells it to PGCB
• DESCO Buys Electricity from PGCB
• DESCO takes electricity from Aminbazar Transmission line(132 KV)
• Receives 33KV In primary
• DESCO has 26 33/11KV transformers to convert it to 11KV
• It again steps down from 11kv to 415V at consumer end
Customer End:
• 2-7 KW, Single phase supply
• 8-50 KW, 3 Phase supply
• >50 KW ,gives connection from HT side
Transformer Repairing Section:
• Checks the moisture in oil
• If the insulation property is not good enough
• New oil is given or the old oil is reformed
• The windings are repaired here.
METERING and EQUIPMENTS
• DESCO first introduced GIS system in BD
• Now working on underground substations.
• Upgrading into Digital meters from
electromagnetic meters.

Bangladesh with full-fledged offices in the major cities like
Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Bogura

There are some basic difference between CT and PT…..
 For CT toroidal coil is used , on the other hand in PT Rectangular coil used.
 The secondary side of CT is always short circuited but secondary side of PT
is open circuited.
 If any fault occurs in Tx lines, then current goes high in CT but in PT the
voltage droppes

  • 32. Mechanical function 1. Lube oil is passed to risen up the efficiency of turbocharger 2. Then air is suctioned and compressed at high,which produces rapid heat 3. Then injected fuel and heat causes huge explosion 4. This creates huge mechanical pressure and thus the crank shaft rotates 5. Which makes the rotor to rotate as it is coupled with cylnder’s crank shaft.
  • 33. Alternator configuration 1. Dc supply is given to a bar twisted with wire and it creates a magnetic field acted as rotor. 2. Power or voltage is produced stator 3. Because of low production of residual magnetism PMG is used. 4. Ac power is obtained from PMG and sent to AVR. 5. AVR is programmed as only to produce 11kv of dc power

Alternator configuration  AVR is coupled with a three phase circuit which acts like AC .  To tranform ac to dc rectifier circuit is used and it is the rotor from where dc power is obtained.  Rotor is a magnetic field which cuts the winding thus cuts the flux and produces voltage  From PMG avr gets the ac power supply and sends to excitation field and by plc it controls the voltage production

Substation • This power plant has 4 transformers , among them 3 are always active and 1 is standby. • Each transformer has primary winding is 11kv and secondary winding is 132kv ,which is given to national grid. • National grid sends to joydebpur and kabripur. • Its has many CT ,PT , neutral grounding resistance (NGR)

Power Supply: • PDB generates Power and sells it to PGCB • DESCO Buys Electricity from PGCB • DESCO takes electricity from Aminbazar Transmission line(132 KV) • Receives 33KV In primary • DESCO has 26 33/11KV transformers to convert it to 11KV • It again steps down from 11kv to 415V at consumer end

  • 45. Transformer Repairing Section: • Checks the moisture in oil • If the insulation property is not good enough • New oil is given or the old oil is reformed • The windings are repaired here.
