ENHANCING THE QUALITY OF
PRIMARY EDUCATION IN INDIA

INTRODUCTION TO PRIMARY EDUCATION
 The primary school years are an important phase in your child’s education.
 It lays the foundation for his learning and development later on in life.
WHAT IT SHOULD CONTAIN:
The primary school curriculum is designed for a well-rounded learning experience and
focuses on three main aspects of education:
(1) A Range Of Subjects comprising Languages, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies,
Art and Crafts and music to develop a good grounding in subjects across different
areas of studies.
(2) Knowledge skills which focus on developing a child’s thinking, process and
communication skills.
(3) Character Development through Extra Curricular Activities, Moral Education,
Emotion Learning, Physical Education.
PROBLEMS RELATED TO PRIMARY EDUCATION:
In India Illiteracy is a major concern.
Causes:
1. Paucity of Teachers and trained Staff
 Indian government in 2011 show that there
Were 5,816,673 elementary school teachers in India.As of March
2012 there were 2,127,000 secondary school teachers in India.
 Low Salary and Lack of respect(Specially nowadays)
2. Lack of interest of children ( uninteresting and boring
conventional methodology)
3. Illiteracy rate in rural areas higher than Urban areas
 In Census 2011, the gap stands at 16.3 points. As per latest statistics,
the literacy rate among urban population is 84.1 per cent while it is 67.8
for rural population
 Awareness in Parents
4. Poor Infrastructure:
 According to a survey conducted by an NGO, 95.2% of school do not
meet the RTE infrastructure indicators.
 Fund sanctioned by government do not reach to ground level because of
corruption.
5. Girl Education:
 A major difference of nearly 17% (male 82 and female 65) in literacy
rates of males and females.
 Safety reasons and thinking of parents especially in rural areas.
6. Rural India:
 Government rural schools remain poorly funded and understaffed
 Schools not in mainstream and lacks latest technologies and
methodologies.
OUR PROPOSAL
“ADOPT A SCHOOL” Programme by Institutions and Colleges or NGOs:
 Use of knowledge & expertise of college students.
 Organizing free of cost tuition classes in the slum areas.
 Providing technical solutions to the health problems and spreading
awareness
ADVANTAGES AND UNIQUENESS:
 Direct involvement of college students and ngo.
 Easily accessible
 Wide domain
IMPLEMENTATION OF PROPOSAL
(1)IDENTIFICATION OF LOCATION:
 As close to the educational institute as possible.
(2)Selection Of Volunteers:
 Call for help through social media sites
 Taking help from social service clubs
 Letter of appreciation from the concerned college
 Personality Development and importance of extra-curricular activities
in the changing world
 The principle of two-way flow
(3)Awareness Among Localites:
 Door to Door Awareness
 Explaining the Benefits of education.
 Explaining Their Rights and laws of government for them.
 Noting down their problems in sending their ward to schools.
 Expecting a gradual increase in the response.
(4)Framing of Time Table:
 Class Timings to be based on institute schedule
 Allotment of specific days and classes to each volunteer
 Different Extracurricular activities at weekends to break monotonity.
(5)Incentivizing Children:
 Essential for sustenance
 Organizing
 Regular Assessment.
 Creative competitions
 Games and Other Creative activities.
 Creation of competitive yet friendly atmosphere.
(6)Giving Competitive Edge:
 Selection of bright students for preparation of competitive exams (like
Jawahar Nayodaya Vidyalaya.
 Counselling of Parents for further studies of their child.
(7)Providing Practical knowledge:
 Essential to develop interest in further studies.
 Displaying Easy to understand Science and mathematics models.
 Explaining the use of education in their life for better future.
SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM OF
TEACHERS AND UNTRAINED STAFF
1. Workshops for teachers (especially young) should be organised regularly for
their development also.
2. A system of thumb-Print matching should be introduced. Every teacher
should have their thumb-print matched daily and then their attendance
should be marked.
3. Assessment of teachers must be done to keep them in control and promote
them accordingly.
4. Organising workshop on latest technological methodologies for teachers.
5. Promotion on the basis of:
 Regular or yearly assessment of teacher by higher authorities.
 Regularity of teacher in class.
 Performance of his students.
STRUCTURE OF PROPOSED
GOVERNING SYSTEM
(1)GOVERNING BY INSTITUTIONS:
Selection of institute and schools:
• According to distance between the institute and schools.
• According to no. of institutes and no. of schools.
IMPLEMENTATION:
• Institutes have to include it as an assignment or internship program
in
student’s academics as an extracurricular activity.
• Students may be divided in different batches according to their
availability on a particular day and time.
ADMINISTRATION
• A governing cell of retired faculties and staff members should be formed;
they will be paid for their job.
• The cell will be governed by state govt. directly.
• There should be a provision for funding for these cells in annual budgets.
• The cell members will do regular inspection to the schools allotted to them.
• Responsibilities will be equally divided among them.
(2)PARENTS’ CELL:
• There should be meets between parents and School staff regularly.
• In rural areas illiterate parents hesitate to visit the schools and talk to
teachers.
• So an organization of some educated people of same locality should
be constructed which will have responsibilities as below.
• They have to make regular visits to the school to invigilate the
performance of students,infrastructure,drinking water,quality of food
provided to students,cleanliness of classes,toilets and student’s
attendance.
CONCLUSION
We hope that our proposed solution can work for enhancing
primary education. We are doing some of the proposed things
in our college through a club in nearby slum area. And also
hope that if managed well it can also work for other parts of
country.

  • 7. SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM OF TEACHERS AND UNTRAINED STAFF 1. Workshops for teachers (especially young) should be organised regularly for their development also. 2. A system of thumb-Print matching should be introduced. Every teacher should have their thumb-print matched daily and then their attendance should be marked. 3. Assessment of teachers must be done to keep them in control and promote them accordingly. 4. Organising workshop on latest technological methodologies for teachers. 5. Promotion on the basis of:  Regular or yearly assessment of teacher by higher authorities.  Regularity of teacher in class.  Performance of his students.

STRUCTURE OF PROPOSED GOVERNING SYSTEM (1)GOVERNING BY INSTITUTIONS: Selection of institute and schools: • According to distance between the institute and schools. • According to no. of institutes and no. of schools. IMPLEMENTATION: • Institutes have to include it as an assignment or internship program in student’s academics as an extracurricular activity. • Students may be divided in different batches according to their availability on a particular day and time. ADMINISTRATION • A governing cell of retired faculties and staff members should be formed; they will be paid for their job. • The cell will be governed by state govt. directly. • There should be a provision for funding for these cells in annual budgets. • The cell members will do regular inspection to the schools allotted to them. • Responsibilities will be equally divided among them.

(2)PARENTS’ CELL: • There should be meets between parents and School staff regularly. • In rural areas illiterate parents hesitate to visit the schools and talk to teachers. • So an organization of some educated people of same locality should be constructed which will have responsibilities as below. • They have to make regular visits to the school to invigilate the performance of students,infrastructure,drinking water,quality of food provided to students,cleanliness of classes,toilets and student’s attendance.
  • 10. CONCLUSION We hope that our proposed solution can work for enhancing primary education. We are doing some of the proposed things in our college through a club in nearby slum area. And also hope that if managed well it can also work for other parts of country.
