Concept: What is the problem? Enterprises are becoming more data driven. Being “a data driven enterprise” means that you leverage your data as a strategic asset throughout the organization. The benefit of being data driven is that you can uncover new markets, eliminate expensive operational errors and make smarter business decisions. In short, data driven companies consistently outperform their competitors. <animate> Everyone talks about “extracting value”. But “extracting value” has been approached in a siloed way. BI systems will aggregate data for analysis. Operational systems will access data from multiple systems separate from batch processes. Lets talk about how this has impacted companies and limited their ability to maximize the value of their data assets.

Even something that we are all very familiar with, data warehousing, can benefit from data services. As EDW appliance costs grow, we need to think long and hard about what data we move into the warehouse and what we maintain in cheaper archival systems. Also, at times, we do not have the luxury of time to consolidate all the data needed for analytics into the warehouse. This is especially true in M&A integration situations. Data services can be used to augment the warehouse, saving costs and making the warehouse more nimble in delivering ROI.
We can more easily deliver single view applications. Most single view applications have been built using a data consolidation pattern. However, this is more expensive and time consuming to set up. Single view applications that are based on virtually integrating data are easier to put together, but often fail as the data volumes grow. What is needed is data services that support a combination of virtual and physical data integration.
Data Governance [defining rules (data service level agreements) on the customer model] Single point of authorization and privacy protection for all enterprise data Improves manageability, trust and security of enterprise data [Ivan will show this]
