2016 WOUND HEALING
C O N F E R E N C E
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Course Description
Chronic wound care is an important subject that
affects many different medical fields. Physicians,
mid-level providers, and nurses need to understand the
basics of wound healing in order to understand how to
best take care of patients.
This one day conference will allow for health care
providers to learn more current practices in wound
care as well as background information on what causes
a wound to become a chronic, non-healing wound, and
how healing of these wounds compares to normal
wound healing. It will focus on uses and application of
wound care products for various types, the significance
of bacterial involvement in wound care and the
benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment to
patients.
This conference will be held at the Inova Cancer Center
Conference Center at the Inova Fair Oaks Campus.
Learning Objectives
After the conference the learner should be able to:
• Identify current guidelines about wound care products in order
to provide optimal care to patients with wounds.
• Describe how to properly assess a wound and the corresponding
appropriate wound bed preparation for different wound types.
• Identify the most common wound infections, their signs and
symptoms, and describe proper treatments according to
guidelines.
• List the indications and contraindications of hyperbaric oxygen
therapy for patients with chronic non-healing wounds.
