New – Christmas, New Year holiday hours
Most offices on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 25
and Wednesday, Jan. 1, both federal holidays. Some military activities will have
curtailed operations both Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 31. This list is not all
encompassing. Please check with the facility you wish to visit for more details.
New – NEC Geek Squad to host training on data management
The Network Enterprise Center’s Geek Squad will host training sessions to help the
community to become more proficient with data management, the first sessions to focus
on features of Outlook. Those who attend should be existing users with email accounts.
Topics include setting up email accounts, publishing certificates to the GAL, changing
orientation and font, creating and importing personal data folders (PSTs), out of office
response, email search and retrieving deleted emails.
Training will be Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 17 and 18 Thursday, Jan 23, all in
Building 404 on the Fort Myer side of the joint base. Class times are as follows:
Dec. 17 (two class times) 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Dec. 18 0 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Jan 23 (two class times) 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Space is limited. The first 20 people to sign up will be able to attend. Be sure to bring
your Common Access Card (CAC) with you to training.

Learn about personal financial management and planning from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 18 in Building 29 on the Henderson Hall side of the joint base.

New – Logistics Readiness Center activities to celebrate Dec. 19
Logistics Readiness Center – to include offices in Building 205 on the Fort Myer side
of the joint base, Transportation Motor Pool (however there will be an evening shuttle
Dec. 19), Clothing Issue Facility and the Building 205 warehouse – will have their staff
holiday party Thursday, Dec. 19 closing after 11 a.m. through the end of the day.
2. The Dining Facility will be on holiday hours (Dec. 16-Jan. 10 – brunch – 9 a.m. to
noon; supper – 4 to 5:30 p.m.).

Christmas Day Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25, in the Memorial

New – Civilian employees need annual leave assistance
Rader Health Clinic employee Frank Housen, JBM-HH Directorate of Public Works
employee, Myrtle Bowen, JFHQ-NCR/MDW employee DaShana T. Adhanom,
Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security employee Shari Dixon and
U.S. Army Force Management Support Agency employee Sandra Hooks are approved
recipients of the civilian personnel annual leave donor program. Due to medical issues,
they have exhausted both sick and annual leave.
Department of the Army civilian employees who would like to donate annual leave
to Housen, Bowen, Adhanom, Dixon and Hooks must fill out Form OPM 630A,
"Request to Donate Annual Leave to Leave Recipient Under the Voluntary Leave
Transfer Program (Within Agency)" at www.opm.gov/forms/pdf_fill/opm630a.pdf.
If you are a federal government civilian employee outside the Department of the
Army and want to donate annual leave to Housen, Bowen, Adhanom, Dixon and
Hooks, you must complete OPM 630B, "Request to Donate Annual Leave to Leave

The Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Central Issue Facility, located in Building 313 on
the Fort Myer portion of the joint base will be closed from Jan. 13-17 to meet its 100
percent inventory mission requirement for change of custodian PBO hand receipt.

New -- Advent concert series includes lunch
The staff of Memorial Chapel on the Fort Myer side of Joint Base Myer-Henderson
Hall invite the community to a free concert and luncheon in celebration of the Christian
season of Advent, Thursday, Dec. 19 at Memorial Chapel, Building 480.
The organ concert, performed by Glendon Frank will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by
lunch at noon and a devotional at 12:25 p.m. Feel free to come for all or for any part of
this program that fits your schedule.

Registration is open for the bench press completion Jan. 10 at the Cpl Terry L. Smith

Winter weather information
In the event of weather-related closures, Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall (Fort Myer,
Fort McNair, Henderson Hall) personnel follow the guidance of the Office of Personnel
Management (OPM). OPM determines the "open" or "closed" status for all government
agencies and installations located inside the Washington, D.C., beltway.
If you have a question about your duty status, contact your supervisor. Partner
organization personnel should inquire within the chain of command.

Think of safety during holiday season
It’s not too early to think of the safety of your family, friends, colleagues and
yourself. Take time each day during this season to think about safety. Here, Maj. Gen.
Jeffrey S. Buchanan, commanding general of Joint Force Headquarters – National
Capital Region and Military District of Washington expresses his appreciation for a year
of hard work accomplished, but adds “Please realize you can give an extra present this

Tax Center needs volunteers
The Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Tax Center is looking for enthusiastic
volunteers to help staff this year’s Tax Center. The Tax Center will provide cost-free
federal and state income tax return preparation and e-filing for military personnel, their
families and other eligible clients throughout the 2014 tax season.
Volunteer tax preparers and volunteer administrative staff are needed to help make
this year’s Tax Center a successful operation.

MCCS Henderson Hall Christmas holiday hours
Marine Corps Community Services announces holiday hours for Christmas Day,
Wednesday, Dec. 25. All MCCS activities are closed except the car wash, which is open
daily 24 hours. Some activities will have modified hours Tuesday., Dec. 24, and
Thursday and Friday, Dec. 26 and 27. The Marine Club will be closed December 25

the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
ACAP supports spouses in transition
Army Career and Alumni Program offers services to the spouses of military
personnel who are transitioning: both retiring or ETSing (Expiration of Term in Service).
Some of the services offered to transitioning spouses include one-on-one assistance
with a resume, a Veterans Affairs benefits briefing, Department of Labor Employment
Workshop (includes the interview process, dress for success, building a resume, salary
negotiation) and financial planning.
5. More services include classes on home buying, credit scores, investing, TRICARE,
finding and applying for federal jobs and much more.

Winter Intramural Basketball
Semper Fit Winter Intramural Basketball signup is underway. Register by Thursday,

Zembiec Pool closed indefinitely
Due to damage as a result of a power outage, the Maj. Douglas A. Zembiec Pool is
closed indefinitely.
We regret this loss of a popular workout venue and will work diligently to reopen as
soon as possible.
Henderson Hall Gate 3 closed Dec. 19-Jan. 6
On the Henderson Hall side of the joint base, Gate 3 (Annex Gate) will be closed
from Thursday, Dec. 19 through Monday, Jan. 6 during the holiday season. Henderson
Hall’s Gate 1 is open 24/7 to Department of Defense ID card holders and visitors.

Applications for Scholarships for Military Children available
Applications for the 2014 Scholarships Program are available at the commissary on
the Fort Myer side of the joint base and online at www.militaryscholar.org.
Applications must be turned in to a commissary by close of business Feb. 28, 2014.
Packages must be hand-delivered or shipped via U.S. Postal Service or other delivery
methods, not emailed or faxed.
This year's award amount has risen to $2,000, and the program awards at least one
scholarship at each commissary with qualified applicants. Applicants should ensure
that they and their sponsor are enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting
System (DEERS) database and have a military ID card.

Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area offers
child, spouse scholarships
The Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area provides
scholarships for children (high school students and college students) and spouses of U.

Applications for the three programs must be mailed to the Thrift Shop by March 28,
2014.

This two-part seminar is designed to provide parents who are separated and or
divorced with the tools to ensure that they are able to continue supporting and
encouraging their children despite the breakup of the family unit. The process of
developing an effective co-parenting plan with your ex is challenging but essential to
healthy growth and development of young children. You must attend both sessions to
receive a certificate of completion. Class dates are Monday, Jan. 6 and 13 from 9 to 11
a.m. in the ACS classroom, Building 201 on the Fort Myer side of the joint base.

EFMP slates December classes
The Exceptional Family Member Program offers an EFMP Basics class Monday, Dec.
16 and Thursday, Dec. 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., advocacy skills will be presented at
Marine Barracks Washington and on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base,
respectively.
Thursday, Dec. 26, from noon to 1 p.m., learn about the EFMP reimbursement
program at an orientation on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. The
orientation is also available through WebEx. All classes require registration.

Anger Management

Traffic, Roads and Grounds
Arlington road work to temporarily close some of South Queen Street
Virginia Department of Transportation workers closed South Queen Street at
Columbia Pike through mid December to do work order for sanitary sewer relocation
work to proceed across South Queen Street.
A portion of South Queen Street near its intersection with Columbia Pike will remain
closed for about two weeks. Traffic entering and exiting Arlington View and Carrington
Village communities will be detoured to South Quinn Street.
Road construction in Arlington through December
Roadway reconstruction on Columbia Pike from South Wakefield Drive to Four Mile
Run will continue through the middle of December, weather permitting. Work will
begin at the west side of the project and move east.
