News 
New – U.S. Army to host annual health fair 
The U.S. Army will host an annual health fair Sept. 9, which is open to all 
Pentagon personnel and other Department of Defense employees within the National 
Capital Region. The opening ceremony will be held on the Pentagon Center Courtyard 
stage at 9 a.m. 
Mr. Eric Hipple, former Detroit Lions quarterback, is scheduled to be the featured 
speaker. Hipple, an advocate for suicide awareness, is devoted to building awareness 
and breaking down the stigma associated with depressive illnesses, since the loss of his 
15-year-old son, Jeff, to suicide. 
Following the completion of the opening ceremony, Service members, Civilians 
and their Families are invited to visit more than 30 exhibits dedicated to spread 
awareness about health and wellness, risk reduction, and prevention and intervention 
of suicides, and meet current professional football players supporting this effort. The 
health fair will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
New – Noise advisory Sept. 10 on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH 
The Old Guard Presidential Salute Battery will be firing blank rounds on 
Summerall Field on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base Sept. 10 from 1 to 2 p.m.
New – 9/11 Memorial 5K run/ 1 mile walk Sept. 12 
The US Army Military District of Washington Sergeant Audie Murphy Club is 
hosting a 9/11 Memorial 5K run/ 1 mile walk Sept. 12 at the Fort Myer Fitness Center.

New – Musical stories for kids of all ages 
The U.S. Army Band is hosting Musical Stories for Kids of All Ages Sept. 12 
beginning at 10:30 a.m. in Brucker Hall on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. 
Children can take a musical tour of the United States of America and celebrate the 200th 
anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner. Children will be able to try real instruments in

New – Volunteers needed for National Day of Remembrance 
Volunteers are needed to help clean up the Historic Congressional Cemetery as 
part of the National Day of Remembrance. The clean-up will take place Sept. 13 from 8 
a.m. to noon at the Historic Congressional Cemetery, located at 1801 E. Street, SE, 
Washington, D.C. This volunteer opportunity is open to all, and families are

New – AOWCGWA to host new member sign-up 
The Army Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area is hosting a new member 
sign-up event Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. during a tour of homes on the Fort Myer 
portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. The event is free, but registration is

New – Free southern country music concert Oct. 3 
Keni Thomas, a former Army Ranger and Southern Country Rock artist will 
perform at Conmy Hall Oct. 3 starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free and food and

Navy Uniform Center to open in MCX Sept. 9 
MCCS Henderson Hall announces the grand opening of the Marine Corps 
Exchange (MCX) Henderson Hall third floor addition and Navy Exchange (NEX) 
Uniform Center. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. 
Everyone is welcome to attend the event and enjoy refreshments afterward. 
There will be giveaways and drawings for products, including electronics, cookware, 
and apparel. The store is located on the Henderson Hall portion of Joint Base Myer- 
Henderson Hall.
Annual civilian employee training 
Annual civilian employee training is scheduled for Sept. 10 from 1 to 2 p.m. The 
training topic is Suicide Prevention. Drug free workplace and prevention of violence in 
the work place training will be held Sept. 16 and 24 from 1 to 3 p.m. All training is held 
in Bldg. 230. For information, call 703-696-3787. 
Army Community Service to be closed Sept. 12 
The JBM-HH Army Community Service office (Bldg. 201) will be closed Friday, 
Sept. 12 for carpet installation. For AER Red Cross emergencies Sept. 12, contact the 
Fort Belvoir AER section at 703-805-3130 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or contact the Red Cross 
at 877-272-7337 after hours. 
ACS will re-open Monday, Sept. 15 with limited service to allow for work 
completion and ACS staff to reset for full operations Sept. 16. For more information, call

Civilian newcomers orientation 
The next Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall civilian employee newcomers 
orientation is scheduled for Sept. 17 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Bldg. 417, room 107. All

Devil Dog 7K Race registration open 
MCCS Semper Fit’s Devil Dog 7K Race is open for sign up. Department of 
Defense identification card holders may participate. The race will be held Wednesday, 
Sept. 24, starting at 6:30 a.m. at the Cpl. Terry L. Smith Gymnasium. Late registration 
and check-in start at 5:30 a.m. Register online at

Fall Education & Career Fair Scheduled 
Mark your calendar for the MCCS Henderson Hall Fall Education & Career Fair, 
scheduled Thursday, Sept. 25, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Cpl. Terry L. Smith Gymnasium. 
Local, national, and international educators and employers will be present to meet with 
prospective students and employees, and career experts will be on site providing free 
resume review. An interactive mobile classroom will be parked outside the venue, and 
everyone is welcome to step inside. Breakfast and lunch refreshments will be provided

Hiring Heroes career fair
JBM-HH Soldier for Life is hosting a Hiring Heroes career fair Thursday, Nov. 6 
from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Spates Community Club. Service members, veterans, 
retirees and family members are welcome to network with employers from the 
Department of Defense and other federal agencies and private sector firms. For more

Tutor and a Buddy 
The Tutor and a Buddy Program is looking for military service members to 
volunteer their time at Barcroft Elementary School. For more information on how to get

Smith Gym new hours effective Sept. 1 
The Cpl. Terry L. Smith Gymnasium now has new hours as of Sept. 1. New 
hours are as follows: Monday through Friday 4 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 
7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The gym is open most federal holidays 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Holiday 
hours are posted online at www.mccsHH.com. 
The gym, which serves over 10,000 patrons per month, is located on the 
Henderson Hall portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall and is named in honor of 
Cpl. Terry L. Smith, who was posthumously awarded the Silver Star. Read about Cpl.

Welcome Aboard Brief 
MCCS Henderson Hall will hold a Welcome Aboard orientation session 
Tuesday, Sept. 9 from 8 to 10:30 a.m., in Bldg. 29, classroom 105. Newcomers will learn 
about their new duty station and important information about life in the National 
Capital Region. After a break for lunch, there is a bus tour of the local area, including 
downtown Washington, D.C., starting at 12 noon. Family members are welcome to 
attend the brief and tour.

Marine Corps uniforms available 
New & gently used Marine Corps uniforms are available for FREE; located in 
Bldg. 28 (the warehouse) on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. There are 
male and female items, even a few maternity items (i.e. Service Blouses, Men's Dress 
Blue Trousers & Service Trousers, Woodland & Dessert Cammies, Alpha Coats, Trench 
Coats and more. If you are interested, drop by the warehouse during normal business

Federal Employee benefits open season to begin Nov. 10
It’s never too early to begin planning. Open season for Federal Benefits runs from 
Nov. 10 through Dec. 8. Employees are responsible for ensuring they update their 
information and make any necessary changes during this time. For more information,

Family Readiness 
Play morning
Play Morning is scheduled for Sept. 10, 17 and 24 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Virginia 
Highlands Park, 1600 South Hayes Street, Arlington, VA 22202. 
This playgroup is for parents and preschool children to provide time for play, physical 
activity and socialization for parents. The group will meet at playground # 1, by the restrooms,

Stress Management 
Participants will be given information on the basics of identifying stressors in their life 
and how to create their own stress management plan. Class is held Sept. 17 from 9 to 11 a.m. in 
Bldg. 201 on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. For more information or to register, please

Play, Learn, Grow: Fire & Car Safety 
Parents can bring their children (ages 0-5) for a time of play, crafts, and stories Sept. 18 
from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in Bldg. 201 on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. Parents will be 
given an overview of fire and car seat safety. For more information or to register, please call

EFMP yoga therapy 
Exceptional Family Member Program yoga therapy for children with special 
needs is scheduled for Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Terry L. Smith Gym. The 
class is open to children ages 12-18 years old and is free and open to DOD ID card 
holders. Class size is limited and registration is required. To find out more information

Anger Management 
Individuals will receive information on the basic principles of emotions management, 
specific information about the impact of unmanaged anger, and receive resources on how to 
recognize and manage the anger triggers in their own lives. The class is schedule for Sept. 24 
from 9 to 11 a.m. in Bldg. 201 on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base. For more information

Baby Bundles 
Prepare your home and relationship for the changes that are needed when your new baby 
arrives. A brief overview of the labor and delivery process, newborn care, and baby proofing 
your home will be discussed. Individuals will receive a bag of free baby care and safety items. 
Registration required. The class is scheduled for Sept. 26 from noon to 2 p.m. in Bldg. 201 on

Stranger Danger self defense class 
This class is designed to teach your children, ages 3-18, about the dangers of 
strangers and provide them with techniques and skills that increase their awareness 
and safety. The class will cover basic age appropriate escape tactics, as well as 
specialized training for older children focused on driving safety plans and cell phone
distractions. Parents are encouraged to attend and learn a few techniques alongside 
their children. The class will be held Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Terry L. 
Smith Gym on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. 
VA Claims Assistance 
Thinking of filing a claim with the Department of Veterans Affairs? A National 
Service Officer from American Veterans (AMVETS) will be in Bldg. 29’s Career 
Resource Management Center on the Henderson Hall portion of Joint Base Myer- 
Henderson Hall Sept. 11 and 18, by appointment only 7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Please bring 
your service medical records, private physician’s records, DD Form 214, marriage 
certificate, children’s birth certificates, and copies of your dependents’ social security 
cards. The National Service Officer will consult with you about the condition for which 
you are considering filing a claim. To make an appointment, please call 703-614-6828. 
MCCS Offers New Community Counseling Program 
The new Community Counseling Program is designed to provide increased 
access to counseling for Marines, sailors, and their families, and to focus on screening, 
prevention, and intervention of stressors and problems to improve readiness and 
quality of life. We offer individual, couple, family, child, and group counseling services. 
All counselors are independently licensed and credentialed professionals who can work 
with you to develop a plan and find solutions to meet your needs and help you 
overcome stressors in your life. Call 703-614-7204 for an initial screening and to 
schedule an appointment. 
ACAP supports spouses in transition 
Army Career and Alumni Program offers services to the spouses of military 
personnel who are transitioning: both retiring or ETSing (Expiration of Term in Service). 
Some of the services offered to transitioning spouses include one-on-one assistance 
with a resume, a Veterans Affairs benefits briefing, Department of Labor Employment 
Workshop (includes the interview process, dress for success, building a resume, salary 
negotiation) and financial planning. 
More services include classes on home buying, credit scores, investing, TRICARE, 
finding and applying for federal jobs and much more. 
If your spouse is preparing to transition from the military -- retiring or ETSing, make 
an appointment with ACAP.

Anger Management workshops offered 
Marine & Family Programs offers anger management workshops weekly, 
Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. The workshops are designed to teach eight tools for
managing anger. Participants may start at any time, but must attend all eight sessions to 
receive a certificate of completion. 
Sessions are in Building 12’s conference room on the Henderson Hall portion of the 
joint base. The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members, and 
military retirees. To register, please call 703-614-7204. 
Stress workshops held Tuesdays 
Marine & Family Programs offers workshops on coping with work and family stress 
on an ongoing basis. The 12-session, evidence-based series, designed to teach strategies 
for dealing with stressors, is held Tuesdays, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., in Bldg. 12’s conference 
room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Topics include identifying 
stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing 
yourself talk, eating right, exercise and developing a personal stress management plan. 
The workshops are open to active duty personnel, their family members and military 
retirees.

Traffic, Roads and Grounds 
New – Temporary parking lot closure Sept. 11-12 on Fort Myer 
Summerall Parking Lot will be closed at 9 p.m. Sept. 11 and re-open after the 
ceremonies in Conmy Hall, scheduled for Sept. 12, are complete. 
New – Traffic delays Sept. 12 on Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH 
The area around the Memorial Chapel on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH will be impacted 
by an increase in traffic Sept. 12 from approximately noon to 1:30 p.m. 
New – Traffic delays Sept. 16 on Fort McNair portion of JBM-HH 
The community on the Fort McNair portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall may 
experience some traffic delays Sept. 16 from 10:30 a.m. to noon due to a 5K run/ 1.5 mile walk. The 
race is hosted by Naval Sea Systems Command and will start and finish near the fitness center. 
The upper parking lot of the Fort McNair Fitness Center will be closed during this time in 
support of the run.

The opening ceremony will be held on the Pentagon Center Courtyard stage at 9 a.m. Mr. Eric Hipple, former Detroit Lions quarterback, is scheduled to be the featured speaker. Hipple, an advocate for suicide awareness, is devoted to building awareness and breaking down the stigma associated with depressive illnesses, since the loss of his 15-year-old son, Jeff, to suicide. Following the completion of the opening ceremony, Service members, Civilians and their Families are invited to visit more than 30 exhibits dedicated to spread awareness about health and wellness, risk reduction, and prevention and intervention of suicides, and meet current professional football players supporting this effort. The health fair will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. New – Noise advisory Sept. 10 on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH The Old Guard Presidential Salute Battery will be firing blank rounds on Summerall Field on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base Sept. 10 from 1 to 2 p.m.

New – 9/11 Memorial 5K run/ 1 mile walk Sept. 12 The US Army Military District of Washington Sergeant Audie Murphy Club is hosting a 9/11 Memorial 5K run/ 1 mile walk Sept. 12 at the Fort Myer Fitness Center. Navy Uniform Center to open in MCX Sept. 9 MCCS Henderson Hall announces the grand opening of the Marine Corps Exchange (MCX) Henderson Hall third floor addition and Navy Exchange (NEX) Uniform Center. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend the event and enjoy refreshments afterward. There will be giveaways and drawings for products, including electronics, cookware, and apparel. The store is located on the Henderson Hall portion of Joint Base Myer- Henderson Hall.

Army Community Service to be closed Sept. 12 The JBM-HH Army Community Service office (Bldg. 201) will be closed Friday, Sept. 12 for carpet installation. Stranger Danger self defense class This class is designed to teach your children, ages 3-18, about the dangers of strangers and provide them with techniques and skills that increase their awareness and safety. The class will cover basic age appropriate escape tactics, as well as specialized training for older children focused on driving safety plans and cell phone

Smith Gym on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. VA Claims Assistance Thinking of filing a claim with the Department of Veterans Affairs? A National Service Officer from American Veterans (AMVETS) will be in Bldg. 29’s Career Resource Management Center on the Henderson Hall portion of Joint Base Myer- Henderson Hall Sept. 11 and 18, by appointment only 7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Please bring your service medical records, private physician’s records, DD Form 214, marriage certificate, children’s birth certificates, and copies of your dependents’ social security cards. MCCS Offers New Community Counseling Program The new Community Counseling Program is designed to provide increased access to counseling for Marines, sailors, and their families, and to focus on screening, prevention, and intervention of stressors and problems to improve readiness and quality of life. We offer individual, couple, family, child, and group counseling services. All counselors are independently licensed and credentialed professionals who can work with you to develop a plan and find solutions to meet your needs and help you overcome stressors in your life. ACAP supports spouses in transition Army Career and Alumni Program offers services to the spouses of military personnel who are transitioning: both retiring or ETSing (Expiration of Term in Service). Some of the services offered to transitioning spouses include one-on-one assistance with a resume, a Veterans Affairs benefits briefing, Department of Labor Employment Workshop (includes the interview process, dress for success, building a resume, salary negotiation) and financial planning. More services include classes on home buying, credit scores, investing, TRICARE, finding and applying for federal jobs and much more. To register, please call 703-614-7204. Stress workshops held Tuesdays Marine & Family Programs offers workshops on coping with work and family stress on an ongoing basis. The 12-session, evidence-based series, designed to teach strategies for dealing with stressors, is held Tuesdays, from 2:30 to 4 p.m., in Bldg. 12’s conference room on the Henderson Hall portion of the joint base. Topics include identifying stressors, deep breathing and muscle relaxation, assertive communication, changing yourself talk, eating right, exercise and developing a personal stress management plan. Traffic, Roads and Grounds New – Temporary parking lot closure Sept. 11-12 on Fort Myer Summerall Parking Lot will be closed at 9 p.m. Sept. 11 and re-open after the ceremonies in Conmy Hall, scheduled for Sept. 12, are complete. New – Traffic delays Sept. 12 on Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH The area around the Memorial Chapel on the Fort Myer portion of JBM-HH will be impacted by an increase in traffic Sept. 12 from approximately noon to 1:30 p.m. New – Traffic delays Sept. 16 on Fort McNair portion of JBM-HH The community on the Fort McNair portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall may experience some traffic delays Sept. 16 from 10:30 a.m. to noon due to a 5K run/ 1.5 mile walk. The race is hosted by Naval Sea Systems Command and will start and finish near the fitness center. The upper parking lot of the Fort McNair Fitness Center will be closed during this time in support of the run.
