Propagating
Plants/Trees
01
Objectives:
02 Describe different propagation
techniques.
03
State the difference between organic and
inorganic of using fertilizer.
Enumerate different kind of pests and ways to
eliminate them.
What do
plants need?
You can enter a subtitle here if you need it
Water, Sun, Soil
FERTILIZER
INORGANIC
Organic fertilizers are naturally available
mineral sources that contain moderate
amount of plant essential nutrients.
These are made up of synthetic materilas.
These are formulated to give necessary nutrients
to the plants.
ORGANIC
natural or artificial substance containing the chemical elements that improve
growth and productiveness of plants. Fertilizers enhance the natural fertility of the
soil or replace the chemical elements taken from the soil by previous crops.
Powdered
Concentrated Liquid
Forms of FERTILIZER
Concentrated tablet Fertilizer Pelleted or Granular Fertilizer
GARDEN PESTS
INSECTS
Two types:
Sucking insects &
Chewing insects
Thje suckers peirces
the plant tisue,
while the chewers
bite off and eat
portions of the
plant.
PLANT DISEASES
Many distructive
plant diseaes are
caused by bacteria,
fungi and viruses.
Insects, spread
diseases from one
plant to another.
WEEDS
When left to grow
taller than plants, may
reduce the intensity of
lighht that reaches the
plants, thus impairing
photosynthesis and
growth. They would
compete with plants
in absorving water in
the soil.

WEEDS
WAYS OF
APPLYING
PESTICIDES
SPREADING
The easiest way to
eliminate pests. It is
fast and clean for it
only requires
sprinkling pesticides
on the ground.
Applying Pesticides
SYTEMIC
The poison , in granular form,
is sprinkled on the ground
and water is applied. The
mixture form of poison is
absorbed by the plant roots
and all of parts of the plant
become toxic to many
insect.
Applying Pesticides
SPRAYING
It is the good method to
reach all parts of the
plant. It must be done
early in the morning or
late afternoon. Hot
sunlight on treated
plants harm them.
Applying Pesticides
PROPAGATING PLANTS
Sexual Propagation
It is the reproduction of
plants by means of SEEDS
that are planted untill they
grow into seedlings. It is the
most common method used.
WAYS OF PROPAGATION
Asexual Propagation
It is the reproduction of plants
by means of its vegetative
parts. These parts include the
roots, stems, or leaves of the
plant that when separated
from the mother plant,
develop into a new individual
plant.
BUDDING
The single bud is forced
to grow in the stock.
ASEXUAL PROPAGATION
GRAFTING
The scion or top
portion of stem of
plant is joined with
or inserted into the
rootstock of another
plant to make them
grow together in one
plant.
ASEXUAL PROPAGATION
MARCOTTING
Removing a ring of bark
on a large branch.
The branch or stem
is induced to the
root that is attached
to the mother plant.
Also called AIR
LAYERING.
ASEXUAL PROPAGATION
