3. Challenges/concerns for September
Increasing digital divide - learners being disadvantaged due to poor
access to devices and connectivity.
Engagement – keeping learners engaged and motivated.
Quality of TLA – Not being able to deliver a high quality learning
experience.
4. Responding to learner need
Consolidate number of tools/channels – KISS principles.
Learner engagement – keeping in touch, providing ongoing feedback
Staff CPD – Staff need guidance and support but also opportunities
to apply and try new found skills
Learner attendance – challenges of recording attendance,
participation and engagement.
5. Learning to take forward
Accessibility/inclusion – ensure learning resources are accessible
e.g. video have subtitles and transcriptions.
Mixed delivery methods – synchronous and asynchronous. Online is
different to face to face.
Single sign on – reduce barriers for learners by ensuring single
authentication method and integration of multiple systems.
Quality learning content – access to interactive third party content
6. Things to focus on
Digital capability of staff – provide comprehensive CPD programme
for staff at all levels of digital capability. Additional support for staff
who feel digital is not for them and may be at risk of leaving FE.
Digital exclusion – identifying learners that need access to devices,
connectivity or a place to learn.
Induction – comprehensive online induction programme which
creates relationships with learners and prepares them to learn online
