a look inside my AS media evaluation

1. Preliminary task
AS media studies

2. The theme
• The theme of our preliminary task was based
around a police investigation. It seemed like a
good theme because it made it easy to
emphasise certain feelings like tension, we
managed to get an array of different camera
shots, and the dialogue goes very well with
the scene. We were influenced by the movie
usual suspects.

3. The final product
• When we started we had an image of what
the final product would look like. As we asses
the task now and look over our story board
that was created before we started filming, i
conclude that we did not fail to reproduce our
ideas and portray them into film. It was due to
good camera work, and good editing.

4. Production
• Our planning could have been better, we
rushed a little bit in the setting up of the mise
en scene, positioning the lights, readying the
camera, and getting into character. The
methods we used was too produce an original
storyboard and then base our film around
that.

5. Effectiveness
• Considering the final product and how alike it
is with the story board i believe i can safely say
our methods were successful and we did very
well on filming our first task.

6. Camera composition
• Camera composition- positioning the camera
correctly so to achieve the best shot possible.

7. Movement of shots
• Movement of shots- the movement of the
camera on a particular subject or character.

8. Mise en scene
• Mise en scene-everything within the scene
such as lighting, camera angles, costumes,
actors,props, make up.

9. Diegetic
• Diegetic- sound that is coming from within the
scene. For example in the task we have a
scene of me slamming my hands onto the
table creating a loud sound, it is diegetic
because it is within the scene.

10. Non diegetic sound
• Non diegetic sound- sound that is added in for
special effects during the editing phase. i.e a
theme song or a sound effect.
