Karanjadi & Veer station near Roha in Raigad
district in maharashtra.
As said by PR 200 k.m from mumbai after the
engine hit to boulders that had fallen on the
track due to mudslide due to heavy rains in
the area.
8 coaches detrailed including to
compartments & engine &7 bogie unaffected
20. 14 people were killed & 62 were injured
The injured were rushed to the Hospitals in
Mahad & Roha.
Condition of the driver & asst.driver was to be
very serious.
After Laluprasad Yadav accepted the post of
Railway minister it was the first accident in
India.
Railway minister announced 1 lakh to the
family of person died in the accident Rs.5000
To 15,000 to the injured.

We visited the accident spot & tried to take
information from the station master of
Karanjadi which was on duty at the time of
accident Mr.J.D mina.
But he did not entertain & did not give any
information.
22. But Mr.Prakash Khade Sr.staff of konkan
railway,working at karanjadi station from last
12 years,helped out to gave us proper
information.
As per Mr.Prakash Khade:
On 17th july2004 The train was from
Manglore To L.T.T (kurla, mumbai) accident
was happened on 6.00 am.
The accident spot was from 2-3 K.M of
karanjadi railway station.
23. In this accident 11 peoples were died on the
spot & 40-50 peoples were injured & 5
peoples died later in Mahad civil Hospital
which was 11 km far from accident spot.
The first hand help was provided by the local
residency peoples near the accident spot.
The measures taken after the accident the
cutting of ages of mountain which poses
dangerous.
The cause of accident is still “unknown”
