  6. 6. QUESTIONS IN LEADERSHIP Q. Are leaders always popular with the people they supervise? The best leaders seem to combine the natural ability of leading and winning friends. Q. Are good leaders born or made? Some men are born leaders, but most leaders are good leaders because they have worked hard and thought hard to become so.

  15. 15. Attributes of a Leader Guiding vision: Effective leaders know what they want to do, and have the strength of character to pursue their objectives in the face of opposition and in spite of failures. The effective leader establishes achievable goals.
  16. 16. Attributes of a Leader Passion: Effective leaders believe passionately in their goals. They have a positive outlook on who they are, and they love what they do. Their passion for life is a guiding star for others to follow, because they radiate promise!
  17. 17. Attributes of a Leader Integrity: Because they know who they are, effective leaders are also aware of their weaknesses. They only make promises they can follow through on. Honesty: Leaders convey an aura of honesty in both their professional and their personal lives. Trust: Effective leaders earn the trust of their followers and act on behalf of their followers.
  18. 18. Attributes of a Leader  Curiosity: Leaders are learners. They wonder about every aspect of their charge. They find out what they need to know in order to pursue their goals.  Risk: Effective leaders take calculated risks when necessary to achieve their objectives. If a mistake is made, the effective leader will learn from the mistake and use it as an opportunity to explore other avenues.
  19. 19. Attributes of a Leader Dedication: The effective leader is dedicated to his or her charge, and will work assiduously on behalf of those following. The leader gives himself or herself entirely to the task when it is necessary.
  20. 20. Attributes of a Leader  Charisma: This may be the one attribute that is the most difficult to cultivate. It conveys maturity, respect for your followers, compassion, a fine sense of humor, and a love of humanity. The result is that leaders have the capability to motivate people to excel.

Being a Leader  If you want to get ahead, be a leader, you must assume:  That everything that happens to you results in a situation that is in your control  That the attitude you convey is what you are judged on  That what you think and do in your private life is what you will reap in your public or corporate life  You are what you think and believe  If you never meet a challenge you will never find out what you are worth

Recipe for being a Leader  Take control of your life  Assume responsibility for who you are  Convey a positive and dynamic attitude in everything you do  Accept blame: learn from your own mistakes as well as those of others. Take blame for everything that happens in your unit  Give credit wherever it is due  Be compassionate when you review your team members' progress or lack thereof

  44. 44.  Leaders have to remain optimistic about the future, without sugarcoating the present. -Being optimistic can't mean lying to or deceiving those around you--or especially yourself.   46. 46. Here are some leadership lessons that have emerged from the pandemic:  Time to Create: The pandemic has brought people closer and motivated them to explore unchartered waters. People and organizations are becoming more adaptive, embracing cultural diversity, willing to manage risks. It means organizations need to seize this moment to understand and evaluate how unique talents, functions, contributions and innovations can be better utilized.

Here are some leadership lessons that have emerged from the pandemic:  Communicate with Compassion: The virtual world may be tech-driven, but the art of simple and impactful communication still counts. It is critical in driving teams, meeting business goals, and collaboration. Reach to the heart and remember listening is the most powerful communication ever invented.
  48. 48. Here are some leadership lessons that have emerged from the pandemic:  Be there for the team: Empathy and emotional intelligence have emerged as the new game changers for workplaces and workforces. Every voice and opinion matters in the new reality.

There will not be clear answers to anything, anymore. Leaders will have to evaluate risks on-the-go and juggle between different, often conflicting, decisions and trust their instinct on the right course of action.

  51. 51. Servant leadership is a philosophy, where the leader’s main goal is to serve his subordinates. It is a concept where people in managerial positions use their power and privilege to make sure that their subordinates have access to better resources and a better work environment.
  53. 53. SERVANT LEADERSHIP EXAMPLE Collaboration Let’s say that the customer service department of an organization is facing difficulties in dealing with the customers. The leader calls for a meeting and urges them to voice all their opinions together and share their thoughts on how each issue can be managed. This can be a regular exercise and the frequency can again be decided by the team, depending upon their workload. A collaboration often brings about ideas and solutions which individually are not possible. Even though it takes working hours, this brings out productivity by bringing solutions to their problems as a whole.
  54. 54. Leading by example Team members of an organization do not come on time despite being regularly reprimanded for that. A servant leader initiates the change by coming before time and greeting the employees when they enter later. This induces a sense of (slight shame) and responsibility in the employee. The reason they are more inclined to follow the leader is that he or she is a servant leader. If any of your colleague still does not fall into the pattern, he or she can be approached for the same as the communication lines are clear here. SERVANT LEADERSHIP EXAMPLE
  55. 55. Caring In today’s high powered corporate space, mental health has taken quite the back seat. A servant leader knows just how draining this can be on the minds of her members / colleague. Having an on-call in-house therapist who takes care of employees with weekly personal sessions can be incredibly helpful. SERVANT LEADERSHIP EXAMPLE
  56. 56. Servant leadership is a concept that works on the basic tenets of compassion and empathy. Yet, ironically, most people find it difficult to implement the same. In today’s environment which is competitive to the core, creating a compassionate work environment may be tricky, but not impossible.
