2. Compare and Contrast the ADDIE Model and
the Dick and Carey Model
Compare and Contrast the ADDIE Model to Dick and Carey
Model. What is fundamentally the same with each model and
likewise, what is different? Identify at least one advantage and
one challenge that each ID model presents when compared to
each other.
3. ADDIE Model
An effective design model for instruction.
Analysis - contains Timing, Research, Instruction Goals,
Instructional Diagram and Learner Analysis
Design – Pre-Assessment and choice of Delivery Method
Development – Create Content based on the Assessment and
Course Material Gauged to the Learners
Implement – Addresses Train The Trainer, Readies the Learner for
What to expect
Evaluation – With a focus on the Process, Formative with each step
and/or in combination with Summative commonly by employing the
use of a Likert Scale
Advantage – concise, five steps, good for
training a task.
Challenge – May not be easily used for intricate
lessons / courses.
4. Dick and Carey Model
An effective design model for instruction.
Instructional Goals – Identify the desired outcome.
Instructional Analysis – Determine the skills needed to learn what is ahead.
Entry Behaviors –Based on KSA’s, Identify the learners Entry Level
Performance Objectives – “Students Will Be Able To….”
Develop Criterion Referenced Test Items – Develop assessments based on Objectives to measure
throughout the course
Instructional Strategy – Lesson Plan. Develop Course Material Gauged to the Learners including such as
videos, readings, activities, quizzes….
Instructional Materials – The materials needed
Evaluations – With a focus on the Process, Formative with each step and/or in combination with
Summative
Advantage – Flexible, good for large course
content.
Challenge – 10 Phases, many evaluation points
5. A Point of
Contrast
The ADDIE Model may be better suited
for Task Training while the Dick and Carry
Model is more in line with substantive
subject matter and course content such
as related to a school or university
ADDIE Model uses both Formative and
Summative evaluations
Dick and Carey has an evaluation
expected at each level
ADDIE has 5 Phases, Dick and Carey has
10 (potentially)
