CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE PLAN

Rules:

1. I will treat others the way I want them to treat me.

2. I will respect peer and school property.

3. I will use clean and honest language.

4. I will be responsible.

Positives:
These are the positives I will use to recognize students who follow the rules:
When I see a child following the rules I will publically and/or privately acknowledge the
student's appropriate behavior by giving verbal praise. When a teacher verbally
acknowledes proper behavior and ignores innappopriate behavior (as long as the
behavior is not pysically or emotionally harmful to another student), the children soon
learn that positive behaviors will get them positive attention while inappropriate
behaviors will not get them anything. I also plan to give out good behavior awards
throughout the week. These will serve as notes home to the parents that let them know
their child has shown favorable behavior in class.

                                 Jennifer
                            ...was caught being Good!
                                   Very Good!!!

                        Copyright © 2000 BillyBear4Kids.com

When a child exhibits extremely exemplary behavior, I plan to phone call or email
parents to let them know about these specific instances. By communicating positively
with the parents I will build trust with them. If I have the parent's trust then they will be
open to communicating with me when problem behaviors occur. At the beginning of the
year each student will recieve a bank. Students can earn money for their banks by
following the class rules. Some rules are worth more money than others. For example,
students who responsibly return a homework packet on Monday morning get one dollar.
Students who give attentive listening while the teacher is talking get a quarter. There
will be several chances a day to earn money. Each Friday afternoon the students get
time to shop at the teacher's store. Item's for sale include: healthy snacks and
beverages, day off from homework passes, three minutes early to recess coupons, eat
lunch with the teacher coupons, extra comupter time coupons, ten minutes of free time
coupon, teacher read me a story coupon, all kinds of children's books, and educational
games. There is no credit at the store and the children will learn real money math skills
                                  when they buy things.

Consequences:

This is the discipline heirachry I will use:

In front of the classroom, there will be a pocket chart hanging on the white board. Each
child has a pocket with their name on it. Each day every child starts with four sticks
inside their pocket.

FIRST TIME a student disrupts: The child will receive a verbal warning about the
inappropriate behavior.

SECOND TIME a student disrupts: The child will be asked to remove one of their sticks.
This is accompanied by an immediate consequence that fits the child and the
misbehavior. For example, the child was not being responsible and didn't finish their
work. They have to stay in the classroom and finish their work during a favorite prep
class such as art, music, or P.E..

THIRD TIME a student disrupts: The child will be asked to remove a second stick. This is
accompanied by an immediate consequence that fits the child and the misbehavior. For
example, the student was talking disrespectfully during story time. The child has to leave
story time and sit at their desk with their head down.

FOURTH TIME a student disrupts: The child will be asked to remove a third stick. This is
accompanied by an immediate consequence that fits the child and the misbehavior. The
child also looses their chance to spend their money at the teacher's store this week.
They have to sit at their desk with their head down while other students get to shop and
have free time.

FIFTH TIME a student disrupts: The child will be asked to remove a fourth stick. This is
accompanied by a call or sad note sent home to parents. Parents must initial the note
and provide written communication that they have talked with their child about the
misbehavior.

SEVERE CLAUSE: If a student ever physically harms another student they will be sent
down to the office immediately!
