Notas del editor

  1. My magazine fulfills the need to have a Hertfordshire based music magazine that informs people about pop music.  Other magazines about pop music are on England as a whole and are often about bigger, well known artists.  Herts pop gives a place for smaller artists and venues to be promoted which isn't offered by other magazines.
  2. Billboard magazine: promotes different genres of music and other artists. Magazines contains interviews. They promote big music events of the year. Often focuses on American music. Therefore my  magazine is unique because its promoting smaller artists in Hertfordshire. A yearly subscription would cost £155 with 18 issues a year Hertfordshire life: focus on Hertfordshire life and promotes different events, so in the summer may promote local Hertfordshire festivals. The yearly subscription is £78 which is a good price. However, it provides limited competition because it’s a lifestyle magazine which year round will have little competition to my music magazine.  NME: informs about pop music and pop culture, this is similar to my magazine. In recent years they focus on smaller British bands which is rather similar to my magazine. However, this often isn't based in Hertfordshire and the magazine is only online where Herts pop is both print and online.  This competition shows there a gap in the market for a Hertfordshire based pop music magazine. My magazine costs £75 for a yearly subscription which is also the best price out of all the competition
  3. 65 pages allows for a lot of space for a lot of information for interviews, pop music information, local music events  Both print and online magazines allow for it appeal to both younger and older audiences, it also allows for people to pick their preference of what type of magazine they like.
  4. The masthead reflects the fun, bold style of pop music and would appeal to my target audience. The headline is a bold font that catches the attention of the audience for the headline of the magazine. It is a seif font that shows the credibility of the magazine  The coverlines wont stand out too much but is a different font that will engage the audience  The body copy is simple and easy to read on a black background making it accessible for everyone
  5. The colour scheme of my magazine is bright neon colours, this is because they are reflective of pop music and also my target audience often enjoy a bold bright colour.  The colour of my masthead will be white to stand out against my black background, my body copy will also be white.  The black background will help the bright neon colours stand out.
  6. Visualisation diagrams of front cover and double page spread
  7. ABC1 social grade will be able to afford to attend different events, concerts and festivals promoted In the magazine and any advertisements in the magazine.  My target audience often spend their time listening and discovering new music, they will also attend different concerts.  Live in Hertfordshire or the surrounding counties so its easy for them to travel in Hertfordshire to come to the different events.  Ethnicity of my audience is white British as they are one of the biggest groups in the area which increase the appeal my magazine can have.
  8. Resources that are needed for my magazine are cameras, camera lens and photoshop to take the photos for the front cover and edit them. InDesign will be used to actually make the magazine.  Personnel that will be important for the making of Herts Pop are editors and writes to create the article to make it engaging for the audience. social media managers will also be vital in helping with the marketing of the magazine and keeping an engaged audience and helping Herts Pop be spread to as wide of an audience as possible. Photographers and image editors will be used to take images for the front cover and edit any lighting issues.
  9. The best way to keep price down on staff salary is to use inters or people on apprenticeships as they often have to be paid less reducing the cost oof staff as a editor average salary can be £31,000. Another way to keep price down is to not have a building and have weekly online teams meeting to see how team members are getting on with their tasks and if their are any questions. By using these methods it means more money can be spent on the quality of the magazine and its marketing and distribution.  The magazine will be partially funded by investors and to get them I will make a promotional video suggesting the benefits of investing in Herts Pop. Funded through the yearly subscription or on off payments that are £75 a year or £5 per issue. It also will be funded by adverts placed in the magazine, however companies wont want to pay a lot of money for a magazine who is starting out and still discovering its audience.
  10. Marketing: use of social media and Instagram by using Instagram reels, this is because they often have a wider reach with the algorithm. The reels will include videos of the magazine being made and a flick through of that months copy, but it doesn’t contain too much of the magazine so viewers don’t feel like they don’t need to buy the magazine. The use of social media helps create a personal connection to the magazine meaning more people are likely to buy the yearly subscription. Instagram stories will contain links to the magazine articles. Facebook is also another social media platform that'll be used. Use of posters in local community areas, so people from Hertfordshire are likely to see my magazine.  Distribution: a website where you can pay for the yearly subscription of £75 to read the magazine or they can pay £5 to read the one off copy. The print magazines will be placed in local newsagents and shops in Hertfordshire. By having both print and an online magazine it allows for a wider target audience and will appeal to all of my target audience as it allows for people to choose their preference
  11. In conclusion:  my magazine has found a gap in the market where it would thrive and be successful as there is not only Hertfordshire based music magazine. It also contains a great consideration toward my target audience of people who live in Hertfordshire or surrounding counties and are 20-40 year olds, this has been done by considering ways to appeal to them through choice of colours ad fonts. Furthermore, my magazine doesn't have a limited target audience and will appeal to a wide audience of people as a range of people from across Hertfordshire are interested in the music in the area and how to discover more local artists. Therefore, Herts Pop is likely to succeed in the market.
