Experience
Data Management, Vlaams InsFtuut voor de Zee Sept. 2014 – Oct. 2014
Responsibili3es:
• Suppor9ng a project which aims to centralise, integrate and valorise historic data on contamina9on and eutrophica9on
• Digitalisa9on of historic plankton and nutrient data
Achievements:
• Gained considerable knowledge regarding scien9fic data management and input
• Assistance in upda9ng the database on Invasive species
Researcher, Royal Belgian InsFtute for Natural Sciences (MUMM) June 2014 – Aug. 2014
Responsibili3es:
• Working on Research Project “JellyFor” which calculates the spectral signature of Jellyfish
• SeWng up of TRIOS sensors and opera9onal protocol
• Programming in Octave and data management protocol
• Field work in Ostend/Zeebrugge capturing and handling jellyfish
• Assis9ng in the wri9ng up of the related research paper
Achievements:
• Comple9ng a data management protocol
• Finalising the physical set up of TRIOS sensors
• Contribu9ng to a publica9on
Projects:
Jellyfish forecas3ng service based on Earth Observa3on (JELLYFOR-BE)
The “JellyFor” project aimed at calculaFng the spectral signature of jellyfish in order to observe jellyfish blooms using satellite
imaging. This project required an efficient and concise approach in order to meet the publicaFon deadlines. MulFtasking was key in
meeFng these deadlines. Transparency between the different co-workers was essenFal in order to avoid misunderstandings. In
addiFon, mulF-lingual communicaFon skills were needed in order to communicate with technical suppliers across Europe.
• Designing and prototyping TRIOS sensor set up in order to measure the spectral signature of jellyfish
1/3
2. • Calibra9on and op9misa9on of the sensor set up
• In-situ field work in order to catch, handle and preserve jellyfish
• Programming and wri9ng up of protocols of TRIOS sensor set up and calibra9on
• Assis9ng in the write up of the project which lead to a published Scien9fic Paper

Academic qualifica3ons
Master of Science in Marine and Lacustrine Management and Science, Vrije Universiteit Brussel 2014 -
present
Projects:
Environmental Impact Assessment Report
Project aimed at assessing the EIA process of ZEEGRA who conduct aggregate extracFon in the Belgian Sea
• Assessed whether the strict EIA process was adhered to by ZEEGRA
• Interviewed the competent authority (MUMM), the consultant (IMDC) and a representa9ve of ZEEGRA
• Communicated in a transparent manner and showed good organisa9on skills
• Analysed and summarised results in a power point presenta9on and a report
Master of Science in Biodiversity and Conserva3on Management, University of Leeds 2012 -2013
Projects:
M.Sc. Thesis: Spa3al distribu3on of Small Mammals across an anthropogenic barrier in the Dibbinsdale Country Reserve
Within this project, the objecFve was to idenFfy whether natural small mammal (including wood mice, water voles and shrews)
distribuFons were disturbed due to a railway dissecFng the habitat in quesFon.
• Conducted in-situ field work including small mammal trapping, handling and mapping
• Communicated efficiently with park rangers, the general public, the police and University staff in order for the project to
run smoothly
• Obtained relevant permits for small mammal trapping
• Programming and modelling in R to obtain a visualisa9on of small mammal popula9on dynamics and presen9ng the
results in a concise scien9fic manner to a University panel
• Applied my problem solving skills to overcome challenges
Fieldwork on wild boar in Spain
This two week project aimed at idenFfying (on a quanFtaFve basis) damage to vegetaFon caused by wild boar in Spain (Almeria).
• Measured vegeta9on plots, tracked wild boar ac9vi9es and conducted small scale mapping of relevant findings
• Demonstrated efficient organisa9onal skills allowing me to gather as much research as possible within a small 9me frame
• Communicated plans with the local farmers, the general public and University staff
Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Geography, University of Manchester 2009 - 2012
Projects:
BA (Hons) Thesis: The possible re-introduc3on of the grey wolf into parts of Northern Scotland
2/3
3. This project was primarily qualitaFve research and aimed at assessing the possibiliFes of re-introducing the grey wolf into parts of
Northern Scotland were it has previously been exFnct due to farming acFviFes, urbanisaFon and hunFng.
• Research primarily gathered through the use of interviews (European Commission Officials, NGOs, farmers, journalists and
ecologists)
• Excellent communica9on skills, a mul9 lingual background, precise 9me management skills, a non-bias work ethic and
transparency
Fieldwork on topographic mapping in Iceland
This project was aimed at mapping the topography of a rij valley.
• The use of highly technical equipment
• Programming and using mapping sogware including ArcGIS to generate precise and accurate representa9ons of the local
topography
