HOW DID YOU USE DIGITAL
TECHNOLOGY IN YOUR WORK?
  EVALUATION QUESTION 4
     By Jessica Armstrong
FINAL CUT PRO

I used final cut pro for my final my production and I feel it really helped edit the film to
become the best it could be. However, as I hadn’t had any previous experience with final cut
pro I needed to get used to the new software and learn how to use the many different effects
and cutting tools available. As I slowly got used to the concept of final cut pro the software
began to become a lot easy to use. editing them I quickly found out what I needed to do. I
used this software to edit nearly all the scenes as not ever shot was perfect and using final
cut pro was an effective way in shortening down the clips and selecting the best bits to
eventually put it all together. As the main intention was to enable the whole film to flow
effectively it was impossible for me to shoot each shot without having to stop and get
another angle, using this software has enabled me to use lots of different shots and put them
together. With using this software it enabled me to use the red filter over the original filmed
shots, this I think added a great sense of danger to the shots in which I featured this which
adds to the typical genre conventions I hope to achieve. This software was also helpful in the
shot that we feature a camera flash and then it zooms out to show a whole wall of photos.
Using this software helped create this scene as I cut down the actual filmed shot until it
matched the photo we had taken and then slowly edited in the photo. With this software I
also was allowed to add sound which was recorded outside of the actual filming this is
because I felt that the sound recorded using the cameras didn’t have as much dramatic effect
and sounded quieter than I hoped. Using this software for the first was really mainly just
trail and error as there are many different things you can accomplish using this software
which is why I wanted to discover on my own how it works in order to use it effectively.
FINAL CUT PRO EXAMPLE
GARAGE BAND

I used garage band for two things within my production, the radio trailer and to put
sound effects into the film. Within the film I featured a loud thud noise and clock
ticking which I found using this software. But mainly I used this software to create my
radio trailer and I feel having never used it before it was simple to get used to as it was
really more a case of layering the different sounds and finding a combination that
worked. I used lots of different sounds to create an dangerous feel to my radio trailer
as I wanted to show the genre mainly through the use of dangerous music. Using this
software really helped me in the production of my radio trailer as it gave me lots of
different sounds to play with in order to produce an effective radio trailer.
PHOTOSHOP

Having used photo shop already in my AS level coursework I was very much familiar with how to create an effective
poster using the many tools it features. Despite not making a film poster before I still had a good idea on where I
wanted the main focal point to be and what I wanted to feature on it. Using Photoshop helped me in so many ways in
creating an effective film poster, firstly I used the magic eraser tool to cut around the original image of the lipstick I
had taken. I took the photo in a certain angle to ensure that the shadow was still prominent and the easiness of using
photo shop enabled me to create an image that looked almost 3D. I also use the same tool for the lipstick kiss, I
scanned a piece of paper with a lipstick kiss I had created myself and cut it down to size using the crop tool. I then
used the dropper tool to take the colour from the lipstick and fill in the lipstick kiss and also the word TRAGEDY.
Further more I used Photoshop to create the different texts using the text tool available and also the rating stars.
Photoshop really helped me in creating an effective film poster as it was very easy to use from my experience last year.
