1. Demographics, Audience Research
-285755534025248602531242001905068580Our opening sequence to a thriller movie is targeted at both males and females, teenagers aged 16-19. They are our target audience because in our opening sequence it features a teenage girl aged 17; she is perfect for our role and appeals to our demographics. Two other teenage girls shown in our opening sequence are the same age, therefore this also appeals to our target audience and demographics. The main actress, our blond 17 year old female, is being stalked. This appeals to our target audience because they may feel as if they can relate to the situation because they are the same age as our actress shown. They are also able to imagine themselves as being in that role; therefore they are more excited and eager to watch what’s going to happen. They can imagine what the ending is going to be, and wait in anticipation for what’s going to happen. Relatable situations is an audience pleasure, another audience pleasure is escapism. As our storyline and plot is slightly surreal and unrealistic (as it is not likely to happen to most teenage girls), when our target audience watch our opening they may feel as if it’s an escape route from ordinary everyday life, and are able to sit back and enjoy what they’re watching.
When we surveyed our target audience they said their favourite film genre was action and this applies to our opening and appeals to our target audience, the majority of people surveyed did enjoy the thriller film genre and their favourite thriller film sub genre was action. The bulk of our target audience surveyed enjoyed films set in a realistic environment; therefore we have set our opening in a realistic environment as it helps the audience believe that the action taking place is actually real.
