•Collecting information for global use
•Providing data to the United Nations
•Not making the details available
• A lot of comparisons & little recent Swiss data
7. WHILE IN SWITZERLAND…
It appears that women attract women
• Le Temps – Portraits of digital women by Aline Isoz
• Association – Women in Digital Switzerland by Thaïssa Charlier
• Meetup.com Swiss groups of women & tech have increased by almost 50% in
2 years
Did you know?
• The world’s list of digital influencers for Switzerland has only 15 women in the
top 100 http://ranking.influencer.world/en/set/person?field_countries=CH
17. WHY SHOULD MEN CARE?
Men also benefit from gender equity
• Better health
• A less violent society
• Better life chances for their daughters
• Better work-life balance

When it comes to digitalization divide, Switzerland is not that good. We help a lot at the UN and globally to collect data, but our own data is whether not detailed, not available, not up-to-date, or no just really hard to find.
A google engineer wrote a memo about how biologically different women are and that would be the reason why they are less able as engineers. Very summarized. The employee was fired, Google cannot take a chance to be pointed out as they have a clear policy for gender employment equity.
Uber, is going crisis after crisis for sexism, this digital/taxi company has had women suing their drivers for sexual harassment and other women suing their managers for sexual harassment too. They now have changed CEO and are trying to get better but, it’s going to be really hard apparently.
In education, the university of St-Gall has released a study that student engineer are not far from equity but women take less chances than men at interviews.
Digitalization impacts us as consumers of the digital, as makers and as participants. Even being on facebook, that's participation.
Swiss consumers are digitally savvy - they are always online.
It’s all about what we consume and how we consume it.
We all act as consumers of digital
Who has access to those things, do men and women have the same access to those tools
aving access to the internet is a game changer, making sure that everyone has equal access.
Internet is a gateway for many things: job searching, paying bills,
No access : It's not just a barrier to watching youtube videos, it's a barrier to life
What kind of things do you do on your phone and on your computer on a daily, weekly, monthly basis,
Weather, job searching, gps, pay bills, watch videos, have the audience think and show how important it is, it helps to prevent them from falling asleep.
The first version of this health app had no menstrual cycle tracking, when menstrual cyle tracking is one of the most used non-social app by women.
Why?
The team was made of men only
It took Apple over a year and the update of their iOS to include women only options in their health app.
Make sure to foresee all sides of the problem and solution, gender specific or not. Women and men think differently and therefore complete each other at work.
Equity at work helps everyone have a better work-life balance
Offering equal opportunities for a promotion
Diversity is good, it’s intelligent financially also because of the technology created in not going to be used by just men
Diversity adds perspective, if you don't have those people on your development team then your're missing opportunities, in terms of ideas about your products but in terms of marketing, not only what the product is but how you talk about it and the stories you tell as a company. Creating a company culture that is hospitable to women is also beneficial for companies in the long run
When you become a participant, you embrace your right to express yourself, to share your ideas, interests, knowledge… with a more or less wide audience
A study by Pew shows that being a participant you also take the risk of being trolled.
EY.com / Switzerland has a lot of different charts you can play with and see answers with age, gender, regions….
Not only is men’s contribution to gender equity important, they also benefit from it.
Their general health is better, there less violence in the society, they want a better future and education for their daughters and a better quality of life.
Not considering gender equity is definitely failing progress.
Years ago GoDaddy was a company showing TV spots with women in bikinis. In 2014, Blake Irving, the new CEO did everything to make his company the most inclusive and received a standing ovation for achieving it. Now GoDaddy is one of the best equity gender advocate company. A quarter of their employees are women and 21% of their technical staff too. Which is much higher than other tech companies.
No perfect solution
Encourage diversity
Act like we should
Think ahead
