1. Success Stories
The client steel companyneeded to convert from IBM DOS/VS to MVS. This was a fixed time and
budgetproject. I was responsible for the conversion of 600+ programs and an equivalentnumber ofJCL
members from IBM DOS/VSE to MVS, testing and implementation. As a ProjectManager, I managed 9
team members. This difficultprojectwas completed within tighttime and budgetconstraints, even
though 3 weeks of converted software was lostby the client company.Received an “employee of the
month award” and a “fully paid-for weekend” at Sun City from the consulting company
management.
The specific governmentdepartmentneeded additional computerized systems and theydid not have
the additional IT resources or expertise.I was given the task to develop and implementthe contractor
administration- and paymentsystem.Iperformed business analysis:eliciting, defining business,
functional and technical requirementspecifications,designed/specified,developed,tested and
implemented the contractor administration- and paymentsystem. The response of the system users
was overwhelmingly positive such that it resulted in a larger project. As a Project Manager, I
managed a projectof 8 people,implementing budgetplanning & control,cash flow, and general
financial systems (e.g.GL).
Apart from many shortcomings, the current International Banking / Foreign Exchange system costthe
bank an extra $200,000 per year. The scope of the new project consisted ofthe Stock Control and
Financial Trading System for Foreign Travelers Checks / Bank Drafts / Bank Notes, for all commercial
branches (800+),and interfacing with SWIFT / Thomas Cook for financial inter-bank settlement. As a
Business Analyst,I conducted business analysis,inclusive ofall duties/functions, artifacts,and delivery.
I led a team of 6 people.Commended by bank management for “a very good design and long
hours worked”.I received an informal rewardfrom management.
The current Bank’s CreditBureau Inquiry System was identified for a redesign. The proposed new
system would provide on-line connectivity via EDI for all commercial branches, all vehicle finance
branches and the CreditCard Division,to two major CreditBureaus. It would also provide interfaces to
other bank products,e.g. housing and personal loans, etc., which would include the application credit
scoring technique (FICO), as well as bank/bureau financial reconciliation.I was responsible for the
business analysis, the technical design, data gap analysis and data mapping between the credit
bureaus and the bank, writing technical specifications,hands-on programming, testing, implementation,
and production support.I led a team of 5 people. Personally thanked for this complicated design by
the VP BSD/IT: “This re-design had a profound financial impact and improvement of the bank's
credit application processes”.
I was nominated by the consulting company’s management for the yearly: "Walk an extra mile
award".
The current CreditBureau’s Connectivity System link to external vendors was performing twice as slow
as the opposition creditbureau. After researching and identifying the cause ofthe technical problem,
and elicited additional business requirements,Igenerated the functional and technical specifications for
a software conversion.I led a team of 9 people. The improved data extraction/transmit turnaround
time via EDI improved by 90% after the implementation of this software conversion.
The newly implemented SupportEnforcementand Tracking System’s (SETS) monthly batch-processing
took 3 to 4 days to complete. This resulted in system unavailabilityfor 2 to 3 business days, impacting
the payments for claimants and system users directly.I played a major role in the process
reengineering, redesign, development, testing and implementation supportofthe SETS monthlybatch
processing, with particular emphases on improved throughputand quality. The enhanced efficiency
resulted in the monthly batch-processing window to shrink by 80%,resulting in eventual
downtime of 1 business day.
During my 6 year assignmentata health care company,I was invited to investigate and create new and
more efficientprocesses to provide quality testdata from production for the developmentteams, testing
environment, users and external partners.I analyzed, designed and developed (programmed) process
improvements, reengineering software and processes for extract, transform and load (ETL) of claim test
data to CICS test regions. Most of these processes I createdon my own initiative to complement
the already developed ones. I designed and performed performance measurements, metrics and
benchmarking to determine a costanalysis per claim for top management (BI). My efforts resulted in
improving the performance of processes for claim test data mining by 90%, resulting in shorter
test data ETL turnaround times.
