CYBERBULLYING, INTERNET SAFETY,
AND SOCIAL NETWORKING
DO spend more time with real-life friends
than virtual friends.
DO tell an adult if someone online
harasses you. If you are a victim, tell an
adult you know and trust (i.e.: Teachers,
Councilors, Administrators, etc). Keep
the messages and electronic material as
evidence.
DO cut off contact with anyone who
pressures you for your personal
information (name, age, size, photo,
address, family information) regardless of
the media (i.e.: social networking, chat
rooms, etc.).
DO be careful of strangers who try to turn
you against your family while promising
to be your best friend (they may send you
gifts and give you lots of compliments, but
at the same time, they are possessive of
your time and critical of your parents).
DO review social networking policies and
guidelines before you post.
 DO THINK before you post.
DO NOT believe everything you read
online.
 DO NOT exchange pictures with
strangers through the Internet.
 DO NOT open e-mails/instant
messages or download attachments
from people you don’t know.
DO NOT fill out your information to
win free items (i.e.: screensavers,
stickers, mailers, etc.).
DO NOT go to meet someone you don’t
already know in real life.
DO NOT post personal information, of
any kind, on a personal website or blog.
DO NOT reveal your password or
personal information numbers (PIN) –
even to your friends.
DO NOT spread gossip or slander
through IT devices.
DO NOT send email, post to social
media, or send text messages, etc.
when you are angry.
OTHER NOTES ON INTERNET SAFETY
 Remember that instant-messaging (IM)
conversations are not private. They can be
printed, copied, forwarded, etc.
Comments through social networking sites are in
essence permanently recorded.
Write three facts about internet safety.
Then, complete the discussion questions with a
small group or as a whole class.
