Characteristics of Each Groups of Vertebrate
FISHES
Fish has fins, which are think bony sheets arranged
all over its body. All fish with the exemptions of the
lung fish, have gills
Characteristics of Each Groups of Vertebrate
AMPHIBIANS
They live on land and in water. They live in water
when they are still a babies and on land when
they grow-up.
Characteristics of Each Groups of Vertebrate
REPTILES
Are scaly animals that are hatched from eggs with
hard shells and the eggs are always laid on land
Characteristics of Each Groups of Vertebrate
BIRDSAre only animals with feathers. They have lungs for
breathing. All birds come out of an egg with a hard
shell.
Characteristics of Each Groups of Vertebrate
Are only animals with fur or hair, they also the
only animals with mammary glands that gives
milk to their young. They give birth to their young.
MAMMALS
Warm-blooded creatures, like mammals and birds, try to
keep the inside of their bodies at a constant temperature.
Warm-Blooded
They do this by generating their own heat when they are
in a cooler environment, and by cooling themselves
when they are in a hotter environment.
To generate heat, warm-blooded animals convert the
food that they eat into energy. They have to eat a lot of
food.
Cold-blooded creatures take on the temperature of their
surroundings..
Cold-Blooded
Amphibians, reptiles, and fishes
They are hot when their environment is hot
and cold when their environment is cold.
Cold-blooded animals are much more active
in warm environments and are very sluggish
in cold environments. This is because their
muscle activity depends on chemical
reactions which run quickly when it is hot
and slowly when it is cold.
A cold-blooded animal can convert much
more of its food into body mass compared
with a warm-blooded animal.
Why are crocodile called amphibians? Dolphins a
a mammals? Seahorse a fish?
TRIVIA
crocodiles are reptiles. A Crocodile is a reptile. It
does not have webbed feet.
Crocodilians are reptiles and share advanced features not seen
in amphibians - in particular, they lay shelled eggs on land, not
soft eggs in the water.
Why are Dolphins called a mammals?
TRIVIA
dolphins are mammals, not fish. Mammals, unlike fish, feed their
young with milk that is produced in the mother's body. Also unlike
fish, dolphins have lungs and are warm-blooded-that is, their body
temperature always stays about the same, no matter what the
temperature of their surroundings. Many scientists believe that
dolphins rank among the most intelligent animals, along with
chimpanzees and dogs.
Why are whales called a mammals?
TRIVIA
Like other mammals, whales give birth to live young and feed them with milk
produced by the mother's body. Most fish, however, lay eggs and do not feed their
offspring. Whales are also warm-blooded--that is, their body temperature remains
about the same regardless of the temperature of their surroundings.
Like these mammals, whales have a highly developed brain and are among the
most behaviorally complex of all animals.
Whale is a huge sea animal that looks much like a fish. But whales are not fish. They
belong instead to the group of animals called mammals. Other mammals include
chimpanzees, dogs, and human beings.
Why are Seahorse called a fish?
TRIVIA
While seahorses appear to be very different from other
fishes in the sea, they are fish nonetheless. They belong
to the same class as all other bony fish such as salmon or
tuna. If one stretches a seahorse and lies it stretched out
on its stomach, it is easy to see that they really are fish.
Because they breath water not air.
(a water-dwelling, gill-breathing vertebrate)
Identify the following whether they are
mammals, reptiles, birds, fishes, amphibians
1. They live in water, have scales and gills for breathing.
2. They have dry and scaly skin animals that are hatched from
eggs with hard shells.
3. They have mammary glands and the only group of animals with
group of animals with fur or hair.
4. They have feathers, they have lungs for breathing.
5. Live on water when they are still babies and on land when they
grow up
