Is 2016 the year for a championship?
Are the Buckeyes a Playoff caliber team?
As our Buckeyespreparefor the
Fiesta Bowlon December 31st, 7 PM
ET. The question around Columbus
is if this is the season for a National
Championship for The Ohio State
University. The Buckeyes(11-1)
will matchup in the Fiesta Bowl
game against Clemson University
(12-1) winnersof the ACC
conference.

The state of Ohio sports fanatics
will like nothing morethan to see
their Buckeyeswin a nationaltitle.
With the Cleveland Cavaliers
bringing a championship to the
state of Ohio in the month of June,
and the Cleveland Indiansmaking
an appearancein the MLB World
Series. The Buckeyeshopeto give
the Ohio fansa joyouscelebration
this New Year.
With a win on December 31st, the
Ohio State Buckeyeswillclinch
their second trip to the College
Football Playoff National
Championship Gamesince started
in 2014. In 2014, theBuckeyes
played the Crimson Tide in the
semifinalgame, and went on to
defeat the Oregon Ducksto win the
national title.
This year the Buckeyeshave a
tough opponentin the Clemson
Tigers led Deshaun Watson. One
game removed from a chance at
another appearancein the Big Ten
championship game, the Buckeyes
still earned a #3 seed in the College
Football Playoffs.
The Buckeyesled by quarterback
J.T. Barrett, and runningback Curtis
Samuel, must play great to secure
another chance at the coveted
National title.
Our Buckeyesas of late have
struggled the past coupleof games
to get into a rhythm on offense
early in the game. The top-ranked

quarterback J.T. Barrett. If the
offensiveline cannothold up
against the rush of the Tigers, our
Buckeyeswillbe in for a long game.
As many of the Tigers coverages
will shift to CurtisSamuel, the
coaches on our sidelinewill have to
find other weaponsdown the field.
The legs of running back Mike
Webber and slot receiver Dontre
Wilson will have to be utilized by
offensivecoordinator Ed Warinner.
The Buckeyesdefensiveunit.
On the defensivesideof the ball the
Buckeyesdefensehas dominated.
Justas the defenseof Clemson, the
Buckeyesare oneof the top-ranked
defensein the nation. Many believe
this could be a matchup of the two
defenses. The defensethat commits
the most mistakes and gives up big
playswill surely suffer a playoff
loss.
The play of the Buckeyedefensive
line mustremain stout as Clemson
will commit to runningpower back
WayneGallman. KeepingWatson
contained won’t be an easy task for
our Buckeyesdefense at all. Watson
has thrown for 4,000 plusyards
again this season, and has rushed
for 500 pluson the ground.
Through all the close game this
season, our Buckeyeshavefaced
adversity and are here in the
College Football Playoffs. The loss
to the Big Ten championsPenn
State, had many countour Buckeyes
out, saying our Buckeyesare a
playoff caliber team. Whether they
are here to stay or notwill be
answered after our New Year’s Eve
matchup with Clemson. How our
Buckeyesmatchup against the #2
seeded Clemson Tigers?

Our Assistant Coaches
Start Here Go Anywhere
Since Urban Meyer took over as the head
man of the Buckeyes in 2012, assistant
coaches under Meyer have been targeted
as potential head coaches at other
universities almost every year. This trend
started after the 2012 season when then
offensive coordinator Tom Herman was
looked to as a rising coach in college
football.
Tom Herman, previousOhio State
offensive coordinator.
With Herman as the offensive coordinator
of Ohio State, the Buckeyes won 38 games
and only loss 4 games. Herman’s style
offense was to spread the field and keep
defenses off balance with the pass and
run. Herman’s balanced attack ranked as
one of the nation’s top ranked offenses
from 2012 to 2014.
Herman’s success as a coordinator
garnered more and more attention year
after year at OSU. After the 2014 season
when there was a coaching vacancy at the
University at Houston, Herman took the
job as head coach. In two years at
Houston, Herman’s record was 22 wins
with 4 losses. Herman has recently moved
on from his post at Houston to become
the head coach at his alma mater Texas.
FormerBuckeye defensivecoordinator,
Chris Ash (2014-2015)
From Arkansas to Ohio State, former
Buckeye defensive coordinator Chris Ash
has had success. When Ash joined the
Buckeye staff, Ash was not on the list of
many to take over as a head coach. With
the improvement of the Buckeyes
defense, and the increase in takeaways by
his defense, Ash would later become the
head coach at the Rutgers University. In
his one season at Rutgers Ash won 2
games and lost 10. We will be watching
our fellow assistant the next couple of
season to come.

Luke Fickell, a long-time Buckeye
assistant, was one of the only coaches
retained by Urban Meyer after the 2011
season. Fickell served as interim head
coach in 2011, and had since been a co-
defensive coordinator. From 2012 to
2016, Fickell along with other co –
defensive coordinators Chris Ash and
Greg Schiano have orchestrated top
ranked defenses.
On December 10th it was announced that
coach Fickell had took the vacancy at the
University of Cincinnati, replacing former
head coach Tommy Tuberville. This hire
comes a year after Chris Ash a former
defensive coordinator was named head
coach at Rutgers. Fickell will still remain
as the Buckeyes defensive coordinator
through the college football playoffs.
Buckeye fans hope the new job won’t
affect the job he still has here at OSU until
after the playoffs are concluded.
Ohio State coaches.
Under Meyer, many assistant have went
on to be head coaches. Meyer has had
three assistant move on from the
Buckeyes since 2012. With the high level
of football that the Buckeyes will continue
to play at, Meyer will see more and more
of his assistant get lured in to being the
head coach at other universities.
Assistants on the Buckeye staff that could
be targeted as potential head coaches are
Tim Beck (offensive coordinator) and
Greg Schiano (defensive coordinator).
These two assistants have proved they
are experienced enough to coach a
University in the next couple of years.
Tim Beck, a former high school assistant,
could be targeted as a head coach across
the country after the 2017 season. Beck
has coached Ezekiel Elliott, Braxton
Miller, and Michael Thomas to standout
season as coordinator of the Buckeyes.
His experience and his ways to find a way
to get his stars on offense the ball will sit
well with an athletic director looking to
hire a new head coach. Beck has been
rumored to be targeted as Tom Herman’s
offensive coordinator at Texas as well.
Former Rutgers coach Greg Schiano
returned to college football after a brief
stint as Tampa Bay Buccaneers head
coach, and a few years away from
coaching. Following the departure of
Chris Ash to Schiano’s old job, Urban
Meyer hired Greg Schiano. This hire by
Meyer gave Schiano a second chance as a
coach. In his one year as defensive
coordinator, Ohio State is top 5 in the
nation at creating turnovers. It will only
be matter of time before Schiano gets a
second chance as a head coach, just like
Lane Kiffin (FAU) and Randy Edsall
(Connecticut).
